Overview

The Breedlove Crossover OO Mandolin is designed to be the go-to instrument for guitarists wishing to add depth to their repertoire by learning to play the mandolin. This carved, solid-top mandolin features a wider nut width and a radiused fretboard inspired by the Breedlove Custom Shop for exceptional comfort and playability at an affordable price. This is the optimal instrument for guitar players looking to expand their skills by picking up the mandolin.

Body Shape
The Breedlove O body is an elegant rendition of the traditional teardrop "A" body shape that has typified mandolin style from Celtic to bluegrass.

Woods
The solid, carved Sitka spruce top is complimented by the carved maple back and sides -- a timeless combination that produces exceptional resonance, projection and musicality.

Neck
The semi-gloss finish on this handcrafted neck provides the most comfortable and fastest playing neck possible by preventing hand binding from the sticky texture of a full-gloss finish.

Fretboard and Nut Width
The radiused rosewood fretboard is optimized for comfort and playability, and the 1-3/16" nut width provides wider string spacing for faster, easier chording.

Soundhole
The oval hole provides a rich, full voice that blends well with other instruments in a band or ensemble.

Aesthetic Elements
The semi-gloss black finish on this mandolin is contrasted by an ivory binding at the top and back body. The binding provides protection for the instrument and highlights the elegant dimensions of the mandolin.

Set-Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon USA
Breedlove's comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play great right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by their expert U.S. quality control team. They start with a visual inspection: they check aesthetic and structural elements of the body and all components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, they then adjust for maximum playability. Next, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

Comments about Breedlove Crossover OO Mandolin:

Packaged to take the abuses of shipping. Wood finish was smooth as silk and the fret board had no rough edges. Set up was shoddy. Intonation was way off and the string height was too high but was easily fixed. All notes played clearly right up the neck. The sound was rich and the tone had a lot of punch for such a skinny bottom. This was a great value and this looks like an instrument that will improve with age. It did not come with a gig bag as promised but I am going to pick up a hard case for it. This Breedlove deserves it.
