Played a bit after tuning it and I realized that the sound was very different and I was not comfortable at first with it. Then I remember a reviewer saying that this guitar is not as loud as bigger ones and that is great for fingerpicking. So, I decided to try different styles of playing and I found out that this is a sophisticated Lady and has to be played softly and delicately. What a sound when you play it like that!! When I plugged it into my Roland AC-60, muses and sirens came out from it!! What a sound!!! Out of all my guitars, this is the only one that sounds better plugged in than unplugged!! Not that it sounds bad unplugged; it does sound great!! The electronics in it are superb! The only problem I had was with the case; the little ear that you pull to open the interior compartment broke; a phone call to Breedlove and the wonderful lady on the phone arranged for me to get a brand new replacement case in no time. I am a Breedlove aficionado forever!!!
As I mentioned I bought my Breedlove about 2 weeks ago and it had just come in and had to unbox it in the store... obviously straight from Breedlove and it has a much nicer eq panel than the one shown here... it has a presence setting as well... and maybe more (it's not near me at the moment) but try to look for that version if possible.
I picked this guitar up in Atlanta yesterday before it ever was put out to display, straight out of the box. It is really amazing in all regards. I am SO glad I bought this one over the Takimine I was looking at. Plays great, looks great, sounds great and it comes with an awesome Breedlove hard case... very nice.
I play mainly for myself I am not a professional player.I alwats wanted a 12 string but nevr found one that was comfortable . The counterman asked me did you see the breedlove 12 ? I had no clue this brand existed.I immediatly fell in love with this guitar. It has a clear and crisp sound and the neck is so comfortable you can play for hours without fingers getting too sore. If you are like me and want a 12 to play and not cost a fortune this is the guitar for you!
Of all the 12 stringers I tried in my budget, this was easily the most playable for me. The reason is that there is more room between the string pairs, so I can get my stubby fingertips in between to play. Fingerpicking some 12's feels like trying to play tree bark. Not this one. I've had mine for 3 years & the action is EXACTLY where it was when I bought it, probably because of the JDL trussrod which takes string tension off the top & gives it a nice piano-like tone. The bridge won't be pulling up or coming off with this JDL arrangement, which gives me peace of mind. I can tune down to D# & it almost sounds like a rosewood dread & plays like butter with no string buzzing. It stays in tune very well, especially when I remember to put graphite lube in the nut grooves. Once new strings settle in I don't often have to touch the tuning keys. This isn't a loud guitar & you won't get much more volume from it strumming hard with heavier strings but it responds nicely to fingerpicking & sounds nice & clear plugged in too. The action is a little lower than most in this price range but could maybe go down another mm or 2 at the 12th fret without buzzing. It's got a balanced sound, not too chimey but not Leo Kottke's growl either. Sounds nice tuned down to C & that's where I keep mine. I tried heavier strings out of curiosity & it sounded dull so I went back to the .010-.047. If you like a little more chime, Elixir 80/20 Bronze Nano strings are good & have a slightly slicker feel. If a jumbo or dread feels bulky, give this a try. It's comfortable to hold & play all day. Great guitar that suits me perfectly. So glad I got it!
Stopped in my local GC the other day and played this puppy. Couldn't get the sound of it off my mind and was back the next day to pick one up along with a 30w acoustic amp. Sound is simply amazing plugged or unplugged, build quality and action is spot on. Highly playable for long stretches. Great value for the $.
THE most impressive 12-string I've put my hands on. I'm very proud to be an owner. The reviews before this one are no exaggeration...everything seems perfectly balanced...unplugged or plugged, she has a superior sound to most and definitley an equal sound to much more costly brands. Playability is unbeatable. I must admit, I had never even heard of Breedlove until I got home from work and there it was on my livingroom floor with a big bow in a hardshell case...a most gracious Christmas gift from my wife!! Beautiful guitar and exquisite price!! 3 thumbs up!!
I ended up spending a whole morning in and out of the sound room at the local Guitar Center, trying each of the 12 string guitars they had in the store. I was finally won over by the Breedlove. What an impressive instrument. It far surpassed the other 12 string guitars on display. The instrument finish, feel and workmanship is excellent. It is well set up with even string distance from strings to neck the entire length of the fretboard. The neck width was ideal, wide enough for an average players hand. The cut away body has obviously come out of considerable trial and error in Breedlove's design, as it works well at the higher ends of the neck. The external finish is simple, yet stands out as an instrument of quality with the detailed inlay around the sound hole and edging joins around the body with tortoise shell trim. The L.R. Baggs Stage Pro electrics are matched perfectly with this instrument and the inbuilt tuner is spot on. The guitar sounds great before you plug it in, it sounds even better once you start up the electrics. All in all, an extremely impressive instrument for the price. When a guitar sounds as good as this without you playing a note, your on a winner. See what I mean, tune one up and just strum the open strings. No other 12 string I tried sounded as good as this one. I'm very happy with my purchase...
This guitar is a must-have for my arsenal. It absolutely has the smoothest 12 string action of any acoustic 12 I've ever played in 43 years. I've previously owned a Taylor 355-12 and sold it because the action continually 'fought me' until my fingers were too sore to continue playing. No such problem with the Breedlove; you can play this thing indefinitely! It's got a sweet bright tone to boot, all in all it's a great value. Highly recommended.
I walked into Guitarcenter one day to try some classicals but my eye was drawn to this guitar. I picked it up and it sounded amazing,it easly had the best tone and feel of any 12 string there. It made me instantly think of Leo Kotke and his 12 string playing. The instrunment is flawless it sounds amazing from the begining to the end of the neck with no dead spots. This is the type of guitar that inspires people to play.
