I bought the Breedlove Atlas ABJ250/SM4 4-string acoustic electric bass on sale at Guitar Center, a few months ago. The only thing I had to have done was a setup. The intonation was off a little. Playability... Great! Looks... Fantastic!Sound... Wonderful! acoustically or thru my HARTKE 400. I've played a lot of other brands of acoustic-electric basses, looking for the right one. I finally found it!
Before I purchased a bass, I played several brands and models. In my opinion, the Breedlove has the richest tone quality and best volume. On some acoustic basses, you have to dig really deep to get enough volume. When you do that the strings have a tendency to buzz and rattle against the frets. I haven't plugged it in very much so I can't really comment on the electrical features. I do wish it had a built in tuner. That is why I've rated it 4.0 for features instead of 5.0. I think it's pretty easy to swap out, though, so I don't think it's a big deal. I strongly recommend NOT relying on soley on online reviews to make a decision. You really need to play an instrument before making a decision. However, I like this bass and would strongly recommend it.
Great Tone Great Quality. The string thru body is genius on this acoustic bass , it makes for a tighter more level sound. The sound hole thru the Spruce top is huge and can be heard for miles and since its a bigger bass than most acoustic basses you get a double bass kind of feel. Great for all genres of Music.
