Not bad for a laminate Made in China guitar.

Comments about Breedlove 25th Anniversary Koa Pursuit Concert Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I found mine on the wall at the Tacoma store. This guitar is beautiful with laminate book matched Koa back and laminate Koa sides. Looking inside the body it is difficult for me to say what kind of wood the Koa is laminated on, maybe mahogany? Solid Engelmann spruce top slightly tinted for a vintage aged look. The neck is mahogany perfectly dressed with a smooth fast flat finish. The rosewood fret board is nicely finished and the inlays are beautiful, the radius is 16 inches. I think the herring bone purfling around the solid Engelmann spruce top is what really attracted me. The neck and body are bound with a white ivory looking binding that looks vintage, aged. The body size is very comfortable to play while holding or strapped up for standing play. Scale length is a familiar 25.5 inches. The tuning machines are adequate. It comes with a cool owners manual, the gig bag is okay and less padded than the Bedell/Breedloves of yor. The fishman preamp and under saddle transducer works good. I am not sure where breedloves oregon inspection and q/a comes to play because on my instrument out of the box had a poorly slotted nut as strings bound making tuning difficult and the action so low at the first fret that you can hold a business card between the fret and strings from high e to d. just barely enough clearance to vibrate. action at the 14th fret as stated by the breedlove owner manual of 3/32 bass side, 1/16th inch treble side is at least 1/32 too high but can't be corrected until the nut is fixed. There was no included 4mm truss rod adjustment allen wrench. Acoustically the guitar sounds good and plugged in you get that amplified acoustic sound, so this is okay. I would describe this guitar out of the box as avoid unless you have a lot of guitar experience to correct the things mentioned. Bad nut, bad action, no truss rod adjustment wrench. My best suggestion is after purchase leave it with the Guitar Center garage person to get a new properly cut nut(may as well get bone) and then the overall bridge action can be adjusted and again while it is with the garage may as well get a new bone compensated saddle. I kept mine because of the looks after correcting nut, saddle action issues and now I am pretty happy with it. Epic fail on the Bend Oregon quality assurance we inspected this guitar, not even possible, or they have a performance criteria that hinders true inspection and fixing issues. I wanted this guitar because of its high end appearance, as a guest guitar and as the knock around. First leave it with the garage, then you will be pretty happy with it.
