The Stage C25/SRe is a reinvention of the all time best-selling Breedlove AC25/SR, PLUS. It is a bold acoustic-electric concert ready to be plugged in and played out. The redesigned instrument is lighter, more resonant, and features an L.R. Baggs LR-T CV Tuner Preamp pickup with 3-band EQ, presence, volume control, phase, and chromatic tuner with in-line mute. Kim Breedlove's redesigned Stage inlay is ready for stage lights.
This is my third Breedlove purchase, having returned the first two due to some factory defects. Even with my problems with the first two, there was something about these guitars I really liked. The features in this price range rival guitars costing much more, the tone is unique to the brand (possibly due to the JDL bridge truss), and the quality of the electronics make for a great sound when plugged in. For me the third time was the charm and I have been very happy with this one. Nice evenly balanced sound, tends to feedback easily, but the phase button stops it cold. Satin finish on the neck is nice and smooth and the Grover tuners work very well. Inlay work is nicely done, the top and back are evenly bookmarked. A tad bit on the heavy side due to the bracing, but not Les Paul heavy of course :) Projection is a little quiet compared to the jumbos, but not too bad for a concert body. The onboard tuner is somewhat difficult to see and the case that comes with the guitar is almost too snug. These are minor problems overshadowed by the beauty, playability, and wonderful tone. Great guitar for the price.
Short and sweet, my spoiled nephew thought it would be cool to smash my prized Martin. After explaining the value of an antique Martin to my Brother in law, Price was no object when seeking my replacement. To my consternation, NOTHING, not Martin, not Taylor, not Gibson, sounded even close to what I was looking for. I initially tried the Breedlove because I liked the look of it. I was hooked! It is all the guitar of my antique Martin at a fraction of the cost. I graciously told my brother in law I would settle for the breedlove for now and he could pay me the difference in payments. The difference will pay for two or three more custom Breedloves! Looks Like I came out the winner on this one.
I was originally set out to buy a taylor, or martin. I knew my heart desired for one. But one day, I hear about Breedlove, some kinda hype, I think to myself. There's no way the depth of martin can be embodied with the brightness, and clarity in the same guitar. Just NO WAY! but I was about to be proven wrong, when I picked up this guitar, I fell in love at first note. I took note of the heavy, metallic and deep bass, and the clear, shimmering highs. I thought to myself that there's no way this guitar can cost less than a grand. I got it for even less because of a special. this is my guitar for life, until maybe a martin GPCPA1 (maybe for colelge) This will be my highschool guitar. It's beautiful, and to me, better than it's D25 SR twin. Reason being is that dreadnoughts are quite heavy on bass. A dreadnought will be more Boomy, and project more, but that doesn't make it louder. Across a room, the Dreadnought's sound tends to break up, while the Concert sized instrument will remain focused. think of it as a magnifying glass under the sun. The right distance will focus the light, into a powerful beam. Same goes for the concert. Although it is slightly quieter, it's deep bodied, and more focused. It is possible to overdrive this guitar acoustically. You must learn to find the sweet spot that is audible, yet not overdone. If you want a nice kick to your volume, plug in. The LR Baggs preamp and pickup, is phenomenal.....Deep, complex tone.....The Bass doesn't overwhelm the Treble. If you really need volume, simply get an amplifier. There's no sense in sacrificing quality for volume when you can amp/mic it. If you're a bluegrass player, you'd probably want that heavy bass emphasis (which you could easily obtain from this guitar by Setting the EQ to have emphasis on bass, for anyone who does light strumming, vocal accompaniment, bluegrass, worship, or fingerstyle guitar, this is about as good as it gets. My friend who owns a Martin JC-16 Aura (about $2,300) Remarks on Breedlove's full, deep tone. I knew I couldn't go wrong. And neither can you.... A comment about customer service- My guitar's preamp broke (Not faulty wiring! I somehow managed to jam the battery drawer into the preamp, it wouldn't come out, and I couldn't replace the battery!) I immediately contacted Breedlove. The Office Staff transferred me directly to their luthier, Chris. He guided me step by step into fixing it if there was any way, but he diagnosed the problem as unfixable, and the preamp had to be replaced. I sent it to Breedlove through guitar center. Guitar center took the better part of a week to get it there, but Breedlove fixed it ASAP. Heck, they even gave it a really nice setup. Adjusted the Saddle, shaved the nut a little. It's currently on it's way back to here. I haven't seen it in so long, it seems. I can't wait to see my beloved again. A comment about the playability: the nuts on these guitars are rather high, which is why the action is initially high. Either have it set up, from a local luthier, or buy another nut and shave it down slightly. You don't want the nut too low, your guitar should be able to stand up to at least moderate strumming. Unless you'll never play it acoustically, and will always plug in. (Tommy Emmanuel has his A/E guitars he played for his show, ridiculously low.) Take care of this guitar, and it will look new for a lifetime. Not a single deep scratch yet, and no dings that I've made. It plays like a dream. Can't wait to see it again and check out the setup, from Breedlove's head luthier.
