  • Good value for the money

As reviewed by Chuck Sylvester on 3/7/2011

Features: Pretty basic 4-string fretless acoustic bass. decent undersaddle pickup. Sounds pretty natural plugged in. A nice extra is the spare bridge saddle provided. That way you can change the action but still keep the original saddle in case you mess up. Comes with round wound strings. If you leave them on very long, you'll start to get little grooves in the rosewood fingerboard. I replaced mine with D'Addario Chromes, which are easier on the fingerboard and my fingers. They also sound less "zippy" than roundwounds and more like an upright. Mine came in a nice luggage-style hard case, but I believe newer ones are shipping in a high quality pasdded nylon case. Quality & Reliability: Quality is pretty good, although the nut on mine came loose. Easily fixed with a light touch of white glue. Other than that, it seems well built. I used the spare saddle and cut it for the exact action I like- fairly low, but not so low that you get too much fingerboard buzz. Look & Feel: Satin finish isn't as nice as gloss (in my opinion) but for the price, it has a great look and feel. Neck is a bit chunky, more similar to an upright neck that an electric bass. But it plays smooth and easy. This bass is louder unplugged than others I played (Fender, Michal Kelly, Dean, and Ibanez). It also sounds great through a bass amp- lots of lows, but with enough articulation. This instrument is made in Korea. Final setup and QC is done in the States. A very good value for the money. If I could split the starts in half, I'd give it 4.5 stars.

  • Amazing bass for the money

As reviewed by Doron Shapiro on 5/31/2011

I have owned a lot of basses, this one is exceptionally well made, looks and sounds great. I'm very happy with the purchase. One very minor thing - it is a little bit off-balance, the head tends to droop. I replaced the stock tuners with Hipshot ultralights, which improved the balance.

  • This is one sic puppy!

As reviewed by Steve on 11/4/2009

There's not a lot of choices out there for a quality acoustic style bass. There's Ibanez, Dean, Washburn, Laguna as well as other laminate imports. None of them are of a high quality nature even though they are usually pleasing to the eye. I bought and then traded in my brand new Laguna acoustic electric bass in towards the purchase of this instrument. Having owned an domestic Breedlove 6 string, quality materials and craftsmenship were expected even at import status. I was not disappointed. It's simplicity and " meat and potatoes " attitude, demeanor, and character make this a choice player! From it's stylish peghead through it's thick fat ebony fret board, across it's solid red cedar top to the guitar pick shaped sound hole on the top side this bass screams quality instrument at a moderate price. I liked it better then the Taylor or Martin basses being offered. Being a guitar player first and a bass player second I love playing all over the neck with a tendencey to get melodic as oppossed to rythymic, I find this bass an absolute blast to play. Came with the action a little higher then I'd like but what new guitar doesn't. Fretless might not be for everyone but I'm enjoying the challange and discovering new tones everyday! Yep, this is one sic puppy. If it wasn't for the action I'd give it 5 stars but I don't like giving anybody 5 stars anyway. 5 should be reserved for perfection!
