I got the Boss TU-80 a few weeks ago because I didn't have one. For the price, I couldn't beat it. It's really accurate for tuning at such a low price. The only bad thing I found with it is that for acoustic tuning it can be off noticably. But, I only really play my electric. So, if you need a cheap tuner and really only bother with electric, The Boss TU-80 is the way to go

I only bought this a couple of days ago & although I kinda' like it, it's going back to GC tonight. It's an attractive little unit & the tuner seems to function well enough. It's got a nice display & a compact shape/size. Overall I like the style of it. The Metronome on the other hand, while it DOES include features such as different beats/accents, leaves something to be desired overall; First of all, as another reviewer had stated, the 'battery saver' function shuts the unit off after 5-minutes. (Really??) And the tone produced is a meek electronic 'chirp', as opposed to a nice 'wood block' sound, as is more typical on a good metronome. Also, since the sound is so low, I find it unacceptable that there IS NO VOLUME ADJUSTMENT. (Again, really???) This makes the metronome virtually useless as an audible tool. Visually, it could work well, as it has a nice 'sweeping needle' design & blinking lights, but the lack of a kick-stand really detracts from that as well. (I use it at my computer desk & have to lean in so I can look down to see it.......not very helpful when tuning, and definitely not helpful when using the metronome!) Also, the tempo adjustment requires several button presses just to 'tab' the cursor to the right spot......THEN you can make your adjustments. I would think that the 'arrow keys' would default to the tempo adjustment, but this is not the case. Anyway, I almost wish I could keep it since it really is a nice little device....sort of. But the poorly thought out design of the metronome section & lack of a kick-stand have ruined it for me. So like I said, it's going back tonight.

Got this for my wife and grandkids to use to learn to play. Yes, tuning IS a part of learning to play. The metro is a bonus feature.

    Boss Tuner

    By Richard Gottman

    from South Bend, IN

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

This tuner is great! It's easy to use and very accurate, although, I haven't had an opportunity to use the metronome, yet. I chose a Neil Young tune to play first, with my new Ovation, and easily drop d tuned it in seconds. One of my concerns was to be able to get my guitar in tune as quickly and accurately, as possible, and this tuner does a fantastic job. I highly recommend this tuner for its price and ease of use.

    Very accurate unit

    By Jacob Parks

    from Mt. Sterling, KY

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

I've owned/used a lot of tuners in my 46 years playing guitar. The Boss TU-80 is the most accurate for the price then any other I've used. I have 3 others right now, and none will check the intonation as quick or accurately as this one. It has so many functions that it does make it a little harder to use. It wouldn't be good for a novice in my opinion, that's why 4 stars instead of 5. Sometimes they pack to many functions into a unit, slightly degrading it, as with the TU-80. There is no need for a metronome on a tuner, and you can barely hear it anyway. As I said, very accurate though.

    Awesome!

    By Brennan Shimic

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

This is a great tuner. I am not a beginner, have played for over 10 years, and this tuner is easy to use, quick, and tuning is perfect. The only thing i wish it had is a backlight, but that is not a problem for me. If you play in dark lighting like in bars or any other gigs, I would get one with a backlight, but this is perfect otherwise.

Does the job for a cheap tuner

    By Tre Gentile

    from Portland, OR

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

It's slow, bouncy, hard to see in low light, but it will get you in tune eventually. That's the point after all. Will be stepping up to a stomp box strobe tuner soon.

    5 Minute Metronome?

    By JY

    from san francisco ca

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

Be warned: the metronome stops itself after about 5 minutes or so, which is a huge pain when you're in the middle of a tough section or a long piece and you have to stop to turn it back on. Other than that it's a good, bare bones tuner/metronome that'll do in a pinch, as long as your pinches come in 5 minute intervals...

    Nothing but good things...

    By David Wayne

    from Mountain Home, ID.

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

There is really nothing bad at all that I can say about the BOSS tuner. Although I have not used the metronome, and primarily just the tuner, it is simple to use, very accurate, and was a great deal for the price. I would definitely recommend this!

    Serviceable Tuner

    By drwebb

    from Philly, PA

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

The tuner feature works well and is easy to use, although the mic is a bit fickle as others noted and the response a tad overly dampened. Had hoped to replace my electric metronome with a tuner/metronome combo, and was especially attracted to the many time signatures the metronome delivers, but the click sound is so weak and thin that my old unit will serve on. Was attracted to the Boss name, but this value-priced tuner isn't as rugged as their pedals and amps- the battery rattles a little. For the same money I prolly should've opted for a dedicated tuner unit.
