I got the Boss TU-80 a few weeks ago because I didn't have one. For the price, I couldn't beat it. It's really accurate for tuning at such a low price. The only bad thing I found with it is that for acoustic tuning it can be off noticably. But, I only really play my electric. So, if you need a cheap tuner and really only bother with electric, The Boss TU-80 is the way to go

I only bought this a couple of days ago & although I kinda' like it, it's going back to GC tonight. It's an attractive little unit & the tuner seems to function well enough. It's got a nice display & a compact shape/size. Overall I like the style of it. The Metronome on the other hand, while it DOES include features such as different beats/accents, leaves something to be desired overall; First of all, as another reviewer had stated, the 'battery saver' function shuts the unit off after 5-minutes. (Really??) And the tone produced is a meek electronic 'chirp', as opposed to a nice 'wood block' sound, as is more typical on a good metronome. Also, since the sound is so low, I find it unacceptable that there IS NO VOLUME ADJUSTMENT. (Again, really???) This makes the metronome virtually useless as an audible tool. Visually, it could work well, as it has a nice 'sweeping needle' design & blinking lights, but the lack of a kick-stand really detracts from that as well. (I use it at my computer desk & have to lean in so I can look down to see it.......not very helpful when tuning, and definitely not helpful when using the metronome!) Also, the tempo adjustment requires several button presses just to 'tab' the cursor to the right spot......THEN you can make your adjustments. I would think that the 'arrow keys' would default to the tempo adjustment, but this is not the case. Anyway, I almost wish I could keep it since it really is a nice little device....sort of. But the poorly thought out design of the metronome section & lack of a kick-stand have ruined it for me. So like I said, it's going back tonight.

Tune up

By the81charge

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

I bought this entry level tuner to tune my acoustic guitar. For most applications in which you plug in to the quarter inch jack this is a good tuner. However, the built in mic is fickle at times. The metronome is okay but I prefer to use a click track from my monitor. But all in all the for home use I think it works perfectly fine. So overall if you're using this guitar to play at home pick it up. If you need a tuner for the road take step up and shell out the extra coin.

Could have been a little better

By The Prodigy

from New Baltimore, MI

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

I believe this is a very good tuner; it is extremely accurate, but it is lacking one feature I think could have made this product great. The metronome is really quiet. Unless you're practicing on a clean channel with the volume considerably low, it is difficult to actually make use of the metronome. There are crazy guitar solos that I've tried to get the timing right using a metronome, but I can't do that if I can't hear it. True, you could use the flashing LEDs also, but it's hard to concentrate and actually WATCH the metronome instead of listening to clicks or beeps. Bottom line -- Good tuner, bad metronome.

Works great! Simple and quick!

By TwistedMe

from Winston-Salem, NC

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

Being new to playing, I wanted something that would allow me to tune my guitar without alot of hassle and aggrivation. This fits the bill. There are a few differetn settings, so once I realized I needed the "Guitar" setting (6 strings) as oppossed to "Chromatic" or "Bass", tuning my guitar was a piece of cake. I havn't really used the metronome yet, but I've tuned my guitar with absolute ease every day since I purchased it and I have no regrets with this tuner at all!

Truly the BOSS

By wioejiopf@12

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

This thing is great. I originally bought it for the metronome, and it covers pretty much any time signature imaginable. However, the tuner on this is awesome. It is very easy to use and does not flip flop around with the needle like my old korg tuner did. I've used it on guitars, basses, stand up basses, and violas and it works like a charm. Great metronome and great tuner in one!

Great Tuner but,

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

The Tuner is great and worked well on my acoustic guitar. The Metronome on the other hand is not to good at all. there is no volume on the metronome. I'm going back to the store and exchange it. The Boss DB-30 Mentronome is good and I'll but a Korg tuner.

Nothing but good things...

By David Wayne

from Mountain Home, ID.

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

There is really nothing bad at all that I can say about the BOSS tuner. Although I have not used the metronome, and primarily just the tuner, it is simple to use, very accurate, and was a great deal for the price. I would definitely recommend this!

Very accurate unit

By Jacob Parks

from Mt. Sterling, KY

Comments about Boss TU-80 Guitar Tuner & Metronome:

I've owned/used a lot of tuners in my 46 years playing guitar. The Boss TU-80 is the most accurate for the price then any other I've used. I have 3 others right now, and none will check the intonation as quick or accurately as this one. It has so many functions that it does make it a little harder to use. It wouldn't be good for a novice in my opinion, that's why 4 stars instead of 5. Sometimes they pack to many functions into a unit, slightly degrading it, as with the TU-80. There is no need for a metronome on a tuner, and you can barely hear it anyway. As I said, very accurate though.
