The RC-50 is the most feature-laden Loop Station BOSS has ever built. With its seven footswitches you can manipulate three stereo phrase tracks simultaneously. Each track supports multiple overdubs, so phrases can be stacked one by one on each track, resulting in a monstrous layer of looped phrases.

Powerful tools for live performance
For bands that incorporate digital audio tracks, sequences, drum machines, and/or video elements into their live gigs, sync is not a luxury -- it's a necessity. The RC-50 can be locked to an external MIDI clock source, ensuring that its loop performances are absolutely locked to the rest of the show. Internally, the RC-50 offers Loop Quantize for easy loop recording, plus Loop Sync (which enables all phrases to start in sync) and Tempo Sync (which matches the tempo of multiple phrases during playback).

Rhythm Guide
To make recording as fun and inspiring as possible, the RC-50 provides a total of 379 play-along Rhythm Guide Patterns using real sampled drums in a wide variety of time signatures.

Impressive I/O
The RC-50's rear panel offers a variety of inputs (stereo Instrument ins, XLR input with 48V phantom power, mini-jack aux), outputs (1/4" stereo, 1/4" sub stereo outs, headphone out), and USB for importing WAV files from computers. MIDI in and out jacks are provided, as are 1/4" TRS inputs for accommodating an optional expression pedal and footswitches; up to four footswitches can be used simultaneously.

  • 7 footswitches for intuitive control; realtime control of playback speed
  • Play up to 3 stereo phrase tracks simultaneously, all synced to an internal or MIDI clock
  • Ultra-long recording time (up to 49 min., mono), 99 patches (3 master loops per patch)
  • Undo/Redo function for recording and overdubbing
  • Center-cancellation feature
  • Flat amplifier simulation feature
  • Stereo input, dual stereo output, XLR phantom-powered mic input, stereo mini-jack aux input (for recording from an MP3 players, etc.)

Overall an awesome and fun device

By David

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

The RC-50 is a rugged, well designed product. After running it through it's paces for a few weeks, I can't find any serious software flaws. It's a very solid performer. I can't wait to incorporate it into my live performances. I really love the integration with my PC - the ability to back up the entire unit on my hard drive. Or I can record loop in Cakewalk, save it as a wave file, and drag and drop it right into the RC-50! This unit is complex and perhaps a little confusing at first. But after you play with it a while and study the manual, you'll find that the designers really knew what they were doing, and anticipated many different live performance situations. Once you get past the learning curve, you are rewarded with a very flexible device, capable of adapting to many different performance scenarios. If I could have, I would have given this device 4.5 stars, because I do have a couple of minor criticisms: The on board memory is a little small, especially if you want to record in stereo ۡ fortunately I do not. The lack of ample memory is kind of annoying, because it likely would not have cost 1 penny more of R&D for Roland to provide a lot more memory. This was probably done to save a couple of bucks on the per unit manufacturing cost. What a shame. That being said, if I do fill up the internal memory, I can always back it up to my PC and start fresh. I could then juggle as many banks of memory as I want. The one other thing I would have liked to see is some sort of VU meter for recording. It displays VU meters for each phrase during playback, but not recording. Basically you just have to guess your input levels and set them through trial and error.

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

This is by far the best loop station you will ever use. In addition to looping, it comes with a ton of cool features. When you loop, you can record 3 phrases that play at the same time and can have 99 presets of these. You can also have one phrase play by itself, so you can have 3 parts to a song that play seperately. It comes with a ton of cool drum beats that fit everything. You can change the time signatures to even the weirdest ones. Also, once recorded, you can reverse the phrase, so it plays backwards. Theres a ton of other cool features loaded into this loop station. Highly recommended.

Great machine

By AllFingersPlusAThumb

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

I want to use this machine to play out live. IT sounds great and has worked flawlessly for me. Anything I needed to know was in the book. I started using it straight out of the box and was amazed at how easy it is to operate. I did have to look in the manual for some advanced things. I jam for hours with the prerecorded pacthes and it is an excellent practice tool.

A incredibly powerful workstation

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

I first had seen this unit in action when I was watching a solo artist showcase and I was very impressed. The loop station sounded fantastic through the PA system. I liked what I heard so much that I had to check it out for myself. This unit allows the user to have 3 stereo tracks to be manipulated at the same time. The solo artist stacked them up with a pre-recorded background drumbeat and became a one-man band. This unit has 376 rhythm guide drum patterns, which are very easy to use. This also has USB so you can import WAV files, and it is built to last! If you need a flexible loop station I would highly recommend this unit.

Short Loop Station

By Marco Alejandro

from Santa Barbara, CA

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

I purchased the RC-50 and had a feeling that it would open a world of musical possibilities. I had been waiting for something like this to come out, and Roland finally came close to what I had in mind. The unit is built like a tank. It is very well made, and very sensible. Every pedal is pretty much put in the right place and it is very easy to get started. I was truly excited to own it, and after purchasing it, I tried it in a few live settings, and noticed a few things that, in my mind, made it more of a fun gadget than an actual performance tool. The RC-50 works great for short loops and layering on top of that. The ability to choose between music structure or simply adding phrases just by simply pressing a pedal was great. The biggest disapointment came when I tried classical guitar duets. Longer loops cut out at the begining of the loop. The longer the loop, the more it would cut out, and the more it would be noticeable in a live performace setting. If you're working with short loops and multiple layers, the RC-50 will work wonders for you. But if you're looking to venture into performing pieces for 2 or 3 guitars... look for 1 or 2 guitarist to join you, and do it that way until the fine tune the problem I described.

Thank You Boss!

By IbanezAR250

Comments about Boss RC-50 Loop Station:

I have been using a delay pedal with loop capabilities for 5 years now, but have never really been happy with the results. I play several instruments, and in order to use different ones while looping I would have to unplug/plugin several times. I would also have to be sure to get the levels and passes perfect or my loop would be useless. Along comes the RC-50 to solve the majority of my problems. I now have 3 distinct inputs with their own level controls, and 3 individual loop phrases each with the ability to add multiple passes. I'm now able to create my own backing tracks with just a few stomps of a pedal. My only complaint is that there are no EQ controls which would be very useful, especially for the Mic input.
