Out of all my guitars, amps, and effects, this is the best thing I've ever bought. This thing can not only allows you to record, overdub and layer guitars, basses, keyboards, drum machines and vocals, but it is also one of the best tools for developing skill on the guitar. I had trouble finding people with my similar music style to just hang out and jam - let alone I didn't want to hall my equipment all over the place - so I bought this pedal. I would record a riff or chord progression on the pedal, loop it and have the pedal play it back out of the amp. This allowed me to practice scales, rythym, and improvisation. I couldn't have improved my skill on the guitar as fast as I did using any other method. This is a Boss pedal, so you know it will last nearly forever, and the value of this pedal is priceless. If you were to spend your money on any musical item, I suggest it be this!

This is an extremely powerful loop station, but it could be infinitely better if it had a Beats Per Minute marker. If someone else in your band is using one of these (or a drum machine), and you try to sync yours with his by tapping the tempo, you're going to slowly go out of phase because no human can hit a downbeat PERFECTLY on a grid.

Great pedal DONT USE BATTERIES!!!!!

By Coldshot788

from San Angelo, TX

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I absolutely love this pedal. I use it for practice and live gigs. I play some solo acoustic/vocal gigs and I record on the spot and playback to my recorded verses and solo over them. It has great balance and has a very realistic sound on the playback because of the great recorder in it. It balances out itself when you want to play leads. I also enjpy the 11 preset banks. Although I havent been presetting lately it's good to have them there in case I don't want to record harder stuff on the spot.

One thing I highly encourage is *NEVER run the unit on batteries* I did that and once the batteries run low you just plug it in, and continue jamming. I did that and forgot I had the dying batteries in there so between the heat and outdoor gigs the alkaline in the cells exploded inside the battery hamber. It was really scary and very messy cleaning up that chamber and I thought many times that I would ruin the unit. So point madee: the power input is the way to go on this puppy, that is of course you don't live in Texas and the heat is not anything to worry about.

Hey Its a looper

By Charles Bermani

from MA

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

If you write music, This is a great song writing tool. As for live; its tricky. I think you need something with multiple tracks. But Tap tempo, is key! or no tempo, either way get your loop right. 2/ 3/ 8/4 timing, what ever you need. Its flexible. The drum beats are a metronome, nothing fancy, but all I need. Reverse feature is so nice. learn to play your basic chords in your song backwards, and add some nice background ambiance. Reverse isn't just for solos my friends!

Down side is the memory. I fill mine up daily!
but, Its not mix ready anyway, so I don't mind clearing it out.
But it would be nice to have extra space, if you have a verse, chorus, bridge, solo, verse song you need 5 blank memory banks, which almost half of the space. If you were gonna play live with that. I hope you:
A. only play two songs
B. have extremely repetitive songs.
Reverse, reverse, reverse
I spend too much time setting volume levels!
Pay the extra cash for the new one with USB and two track!

My back up band!

By One Man Praise Band!

from Nashville Tn

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I bought this unit so I could lay down a rythym track to do leads over when I am playing a solo acoustic gig. It works well for that. I'm able to lay down a loop on the fly, and paly the lead over top of that and it sounds like there are 2 guitars....really makes people look a little closer. Mine only has the original 5 minute loop time, which is ok for loops on the fly, but I've quickly out grown the 5 minutes and I am ready for the RC-30. I had been approached to lead worship at a local church, and at first I just layed down a rythym beat by tapping my guitar... now I've actuallu started composing beats in my DAW, adding a backing bass track, and loading them both onto the looper. Now I have a backing band (bass and drums) at the press of a button. It has made a HUGE difference in the reaction of the congregation, and when I use it in comjunction with my Digitech Vocalist...well let's just say I'm now the one man praise band! VERY powerful TOOL with many uses. I love it and can't see how I ever went without it cause when I play without it it's just flat and boring to me now. Why wait for the band to be able to practice? Why waste time searching for half hearted musicians thgat always seem to let you down one way or another? I HIGHLY recommend this unit (and other Boos loop stations) to ANYONE and EVERYONE wanting to take their gig to the next level!

It is wonderful

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I really enjoy this pedal, it a wonderful addition. It is almost like having another guitarist in the band. It is simple at first the more in-depth features are tricky. It is great quality. My only complainant is the reverse button is too small and I cant switch it with my foot. Highly recommended - especially for practice and learning solos

Helps Me Write Songs

By tim-5qx_O

from baltimore, MD

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I used to be totally paralyzed at writing songs. I simply could not do it - I would forget melodies and progressions I had written the day before. This pedal has enabled me to go from a bumbling fool at song writing to being able to pump out the framework for a full song in one day. It might be a bad song, but it's a song nonetheless. Highly recommended for people (like me) who can't write songs.

Great, but a bit deceiving..

By Josh

from Temecula, CA

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

Overall, for looping one single guitar, great. On the flip side, It has two inputs, but one output. In other words, if you plan on using this to loop vocals and guitar simultaneously, like me, its not gonna happen unless you want your vocals to come out of your guitar amp with all the distortion included. Also, has no power switch, a bit annoying when you have to unplug the cable in your series to turn it off, not a huge deal though.

Used for learning

By Adam-Iflm7

from vermont

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I am a studying musician in college, and this has made practicing so much more enjoyable. Although, there is nothing like playing in a band with other souls, this allows oyu to be fully ready and practiced when everyone is plugged in and ready to play. I learned the modes, and many licks on this thing...and also developed my ear. Like somebody else said too, it makes you listen to your own flaws so that you can correct them before others hear them. WORTH IT!

Not a professional looper

By guitar playin' man

from Texas

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I bought an RC-20 and found that it came up short for live looping. It's probably OK if you're just noodling around at the house, but it definitely doesn't belong on stage because you are constantly bending over to twiddle knobs or press & hold finger buttons. You even have to stop a loop to save it. As other have mentioned it sucks tone. I sold it on eBay and got a Boomernag III, which is a killer looper.

I like this!

By Chip Wolf

from Willard MO

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I really like the construction of the looper. I am just learning the capabilities of it. What I have learned so far I like. My only real frustration is I don't think the instructions are overly easy to follow. Fortunately there are some great videos of the different functions that show you how. Maybe it is just my own learning style but that is the only frustration I have. I studied long on this before purchasing. I liked the price and easy of use.
