Out of all my guitars, amps, and effects, this is the best thing I've ever bought. This thing can not only allows you to record, overdub and layer guitars, basses, keyboards, drum machines and vocals, but it is also one of the best tools for developing skill on the guitar. I had trouble finding people with my similar music style to just hang out and jam - let alone I didn't want to hall my equipment all over the place - so I bought this pedal. I would record a riff or chord progression on the pedal, loop it and have the pedal play it back out of the amp. This allowed me to practice scales, rythym, and improvisation. I couldn't have improved my skill on the guitar as fast as I did using any other method. This is a Boss pedal, so you know it will last nearly forever, and the value of this pedal is priceless. If you were to spend your money on any musical item, I suggest it be this!

Perfect Learning Tool

By Bryan

from Franklin, TN

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

Researched this against competitive products extensively before purchasing. After having it a few weeks, I regret that I didn't buy this when I first started playing. This is the best learning tool a guitarist can have. How else can you have a live band to play around with in your own house that never complains when you mess up? It provides the ability to become experienced at improvising and busting out scales and basically playing live without ever stepping on a stage. This is not however an intuitive product. You must read the manual and keep it handy for reference until you learn it. It's impossible to have so much functionality in one unit with only two foot pedals and a few knobs and have it completely user friendly. It's not hard at all once you work through it a few times. I bought mine at Guitar Center and was surprised that a few days later they called me to make sure I was able to figure it out and offered their help. Can't beat that for service!! If you play guitar....buy it!

No Band, No Problem

By Guitarded

from Beaumont, TX

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I bought this primarily for Songwriting. I wanted a way to play multiple guitar parts together without a second guitarist. This pedal does all of that and more! I pulled it out of the box and figured it out within minutes. You definately don't need to be an engineer to figure this one out. I was very pleased when the pedal didn't rob the tone or change the pitch. If you own a bass or drum machine, you can record an entire song on it. This is a pedal for anyone who suffers from writer's block, or just doesn't have enough hands. The one Fault I found is that batteries get rather expensive, so make sure to order the power adapter also.

ONE MAN ROCK BAND

By the81charge

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I bought this pedal in order to sample various guitar & bass parts. The tone produced by this pedal is top shop, and the basic functions are a breeze to operate. Stomp right to start recording, left to stop recording, and right again to playback or overdub. It's not rocket science just rock science! The Loop Station can hold up to 11 tracks at a time so storage really isn't an issue. And with the Boss name you know you're getting a road tested pedal. All and all a great pedal addition to any board!

A great pedal

By coolwhip

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I use one of these pedals for solo acoustic gigs to run backup tracks. This pedal does it with ease, and the interface is incredibly user intuitive. For only having 2 pedals, this thing is incredibly easy to use. It's built to last, also, like all Boss products. I also use this to play electric guitar bed tracks live with my rock band, and it does this amazingly well This pedal is a great investment that can be used for any kind of looping in any kind of setting. One of the best loopers on the market.

Ideal for one man performances

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

This is a great little compact loop station, while this unit may not have as many features as the RC50 it is still a excellent value. You can stack and layer riffs for up to 16 minutes of material. This is a great unit for any artist that wants to perform live even though they do not have a band. This unit provides the user with the ability to save up to 11 loops at a time so it should provide enough material for a nice short set. I use this unit at coffee shops and it has never failed me and it always sounds great through a PA.

Not Just For Guitar

By Jazzvln

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I bought the Boss Loop Station about a year ago. I almost didn't buy it, because it was a little difficult to figure out( at first). I'm an alternative violinist. I have my recording studio at home, and needed something to allow me to play a back up line over and over again, without the monotony. After looking at reviews of other products I went into the store and tried it out. It took the salesman and me a few minutes to figure it out, but once we did everything seemed to click. When I got it home I played around with it for hours. I was instantly in love with it. The sound was crisp. The response was fast. I only have a few complaints. The first is battery life. As it got older the batteries seemed to wear out a lot faster. In the last few months I've had to change the batteries five times. I recommend getting the adaptor when you're just at home and save the batteries for gigs. The second complaint I have is the lack of multiple uses. By this I mean you can' program a set lick into it, and use another lick on top of it with out using the overdub. While this is useful in most cases, it becomes difficult for live shows when you want to program a serious of openers or closers to perform at certain intervals. All overdubbing allows is part playing( one sound over another). Since I got mine Boss has come out with a newer version. I haven't played with it yet, but I believe this problem is resolved with more channels and more pedals. If I only knew they were going to do this I would have waited. So to recap: Play back is great Battery life is not so great Ease of use is good Mutliple tracks is non existent I would opt for the newer, larger version of the Loop Station.

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

Well, Christmas-time was rolling around, and my parents asked me that one question - "What do you want for Christmas?". I had started really cracking down on guitar, and I knew that if I got this it would greatly help both my soloing and my theory knowledge. So, come Christmas morn (yesterday), I opened up a gift and - what do you know - the RC-20x was inside. I sat in my basement using this while all my family and friends were over - that's how amazing it is. Already, in only one day, I've put together two loops for soloing. This is a MUST for jazz and blues players like me, who already know a lot but want to put it to the test. This machine is stunning - 11 seperate writable tracks, unlimited overdubbing, 16 mins of space, a metronome, autostart function, mic, instrument, and aux inputs, and with two extra switch pedals (ie Boss FS pedals) you can switch between tracks while playing. Absolutely stunning! PLEASE, do yourself a favor and buy one - you will not regret it!

solid engineering, consistant performance

By iowaismine

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

Boss makes some of the most useful effects pedals on the market, and they make them to last. All of the Boss line is made of die cast metal casings with rubber contact points to ensure a long life. The loop station is a piece of equipment that is easy to use and accurately reproduces the tones played through it in the time setting you choose. Great piece of gear that allows more depth to a solo performance or another layer in a rock setting.

Gotta be Boss

By Gibsonharleysandvettes

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

My personal setup is a Gibson LP Studio, Boss gt8 and rc20. I was so impressed with the gt8 that I decided to get the rc20. I am very pleased with the way they integrate together and the hours of solo practice this thing inspires is well worth the cash. I am pleased with Boss's quality controll and knew once I saw the digitec's gnx4's shoddy construction I had my brand. However I do like digi's little pedals IE... the brian may special, hendrix special, and the weapon. I am fair.

Great Fun, Great Practice Tool

By Nick

from Texas

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I am working on blues and jazz improvization and really needed a good way to lay down rhythms against which to practice leads. I tried various mixers and recorders and all had draw backs. I picked up the Boss RC-20XL and my problem was solved! It took about 30 minutes of experimenting to find the right level settings and get used to using the pedals, but now it is so simple and fun to use. My only complaint is the that the rhythm guide is an overly simplistic metronome. I turned it off and plugged a DR-880 drum machine into the mic input and now I also record great drums with my rhythms. Get one of these! You will have a lot of fun with it and also greatly improve your practice time.

I like this!

By Chip Wolf

from Willard MO

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

I really like the construction of the looper. I am just learning the capabilities of it. What I have learned so far I like. My only real frustration is I don't think the instructions are overly easy to follow. Fortunately there are some great videos of the different functions that show you how. Maybe it is just my own learning style but that is the only frustration I have. I studied long on this before purchasing. I liked the price and easy of use.

Great, but a bit deceiving..

By Josh

from Temecula, CA

Comments about Boss RC-20XL Loop Station:

Overall, for looping one single guitar, great. On the flip side, It has two inputs, but one output. In other words, if you plan on using this to loop vocals and guitar simultaneously, like me, its not gonna happen unless you want your vocals to come out of your guitar amp with all the distortion included. Also, has no power switch, a bit annoying when you have to unplug the cable in your series to turn it off, not a huge deal though.
