I bought the PH-3 when I listened to a lot of Incubus music etc. The addition of a few new stage modes can really turn your guitar into a synthesizer!! You get so many sounds out of this little pedal. just turn one knob and it sounds completely different! The boss design is die hard and will never fail. There is just one negative aspect which has a huge influence on this review: boss pedals are digital and that's why this pedal will only work to it's full potential in combination with other BOSS effects! if you have lot's of MXR effects or other (analog) brands on your pedal board I would avoid it since the combo of my MXR D-III and the PH-3 just doesn't sound right.. with the SD-1 on the other hand it's the best phaser out there!! so i would only recommend it to BOSS users!

Trippiest effects in any pedal

By fenderbender260

from Seattle

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

This pedal is one of the coolest I have ever bought. It gives my sound a weird underwater effect that is unmatched by any other phaser/flanger pedal out there. I played one solo with massive feedback with this pedal (intentionally) and it was the coolest sound you could imagine. I did have to pay a good amount for it but it was definately worth it.

A Phaser that should be THICKER!

By Guitarrocker85

from Bedford, Tx

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

The Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal is not a bad pedal by anymeans. I just prefer a phaser with some thickness. After messing around with this pedal, I noticed with a little delay and messing with the rate and resolution you can create a water sound. Not so much like a chorus but as if you can hear raindroplets... For those expieramental musicians...This is a fun one. If you are wanting just a solid Mike Einzeger (Incubus) sound. Try the Phase 90 by MXR. You cant go wrong with either. Just whatever type of player you are.

the third try is the won one!!

By Ramon

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

Boss updates their phaser! This newer version adds a few new tricks like multi-stage phasing and some rise, fall, and step modes. 3 knobs take care of rate, depth, and resonance while the selector knob selects the various modes. The multi-stage portion of the pedal calls up different shades of the classic phasers of the past. Each stage has it's own subtle differences and is quite capable of nailing warbly Korn-isms, Hendrix uni-vibey sounds, smooth sweeps of 70s pop, and even Quinn Martin-like funkyness. The remaining three modes offers some new interesting takes on the traditional phaser sound. The rise and fall speeds up or slows down the waveform as it approaches the top of the sweep making for some cool new effects. The step mode is a sample and hold deal that creates some neato trem-like stutterings. Add an external tap switch and you have complete control over the rate.

Unique

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

There are a lot of really cool things you can do with this pedal. I am definitely happy I spent the money on this. The unique sounds have help inspire me write some pretty sweet riffs. This sounds really fantastic with a Blues Driver.

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

when i first heard this pedal in action, i could allready see the musical possabliltys. i used this pedal to get a very trippy underwater effect as well as a very convincing leslie speaker sound. i would recomend this effect for anyone who plays psychedelic rock or anyone interested in adding a diffrent kind of layer to there music.

Phased and confused

By the81charge

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

I have this pedal but only rotate it into my set up every once in a while. The features on the pedal are great (depth, tap tempo), and easy to work with, but I've drifted away from using it very often. Overall a good pedal to experiment with, but I would definitely add another pedal to the board before getting this pedal.

Get vintage and modern phasing with this pedal

By Fuzzball

from Ida, MI

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

This pedal will enable you to get both modern and vintage sounding phasing. This is a very versatile phaser. If you need several styles of phasers this is what you need. I find that I don?t need a phaser often but when I do this is the one I grab. Don?t neglect that fact that this unit is built Boss tough so it should handle the abuse of the road.

Puts all other phasers to shame.

By J-DUB

from Rockford, IL

Comments about Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter Pedal:

For far too long I was using a DOD stereo phaser. I recently switched to Boss pedals and I have to say that this phase shifter is miles ahead of anything else on the market in this price range. You can have all the lush and funky phaser sounds. Then you have the rise and fall modes which allow you to control the direction of the effect. Then you have the step setting. This is just flat-out sick. This will make your rig sound like nothing else on earth. Hit a note and it is like infinite arpeggios are coursing through your amp. Seriously trippy pedal.
