This is one versatile machine. 22 different types of effects is way more than enough. It only took a few minutes to get the desired tones I needed which was done in a rehearsal studio so I could crank it really loud, then was stored to memory...Nice. I play a Fender American Strat HSS with a '71 Fender Super Reverb. The Boss OD-20 makes for a really nice setup. If you want to be in pure tonal bliss, pair it with a Boss EQ. You can't go wrong.

The distaortion on this pedal is average at best. I plugged it in next to my metal zone in order to compare the two. I played throught the metal zone and it had its awesome low end punch. Then I switched to the metal zone setting on the OD-20 and it was very weak. I beleive its weak because there is virtually no way to tweak the settings. The bottom knob just adds more muddiness, not low end. The tone knob does its job well. The drive knob doesnt really add any drive. The shape switch does very little to the sound, if anything. All of the settings and presets don't have very good quality. Overall, this pedal doesn't add much, if anything, to your sound. It also adds alot of noise. If you want a great pedal, get something else. I love BOSS products but this one just isn't good, and im a practical person.

Whole bunch of drive/dist for the bucks

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I have owned this for maybe 8 years? I loose count. Anyway, I have done country gigs with the BD setting, rock and worship gigs with the TS, etc. I really like being able to toggle between settings. I can go from, say, TS to Centaur and back as simply as changing channels on an amp. I run mine into a custom TS built be a buddy of mine. I use the custom TS just because it has an upper midrange hump that really pushes whatever I have dialed up on the OD-20 out front for soloing. Most of the time it's off. From there to a CLEAN tube 40W combo with master just over the edge of PT hair. All delay, mod stuff is in the loop. Just the other night, using the Klon setup, my DD-20 set at about 350ms and 75% level, rolled the volume back about half way on my G&L HSS Legacy with the H split to S, and was channeling Eric Johnson vibes. SWEET!

Almost perfect

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I have owned the OD-20 for several years now. Yeah, I've bought a fair share of dirt boxes while still using this pedal and have decided to keep it. The sound is great, you can store 4 of your favorite sounds, you can record direct to mixer with this ( a Big plus for me), well built (a Boss). I usually toggle between T-screamer-rythm- and BD-2 for leads in mode 3. Read the manual and enjoy. Almost Perfect!

Boss OD-20. on my pedalboard for a long time to come

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I bought this after reading lots of reviews and deciding that it would be very useful for lots of different sounds, i was right. there are 22 different types and each one can be changed by the tone, bottom, level, attack, and heavy octave knobs. the thing that i really like is the attack knob. what it does is adds "smoothness" or "edgyness" to your sound. so if i'm using the bridge pickup on my strat but i want it to sound a tad smoother for the leads, or if i'm using the neck pickup but i want it to really jump out for a solo, its easy to adjust through the attack knob.

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I just got my OD-20 and so far I really like it!I am getting some really awesome sounds from the OD-20! I never got this kind of sound with my digitech, so I guess its time to sell the digitech, because I won't use anything but the OD-20 from now on. Sounds great, well worth the money!

The Boss OD20

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

Love it.Play this through a Fender Twin reverb, a Vox AC15/30...I've done the "A/B" thing comparing my all my individual pedals to the different od/distortions on the OD20 and those individual pedals have ended on Craigslist...Yes there might be a bit of work to dial in which tone/sound you want, because you can spend hours on just one distortion or overdrive, and I've even bought many other pedals while owning this pedal and ended up selling them because the OD20 really nails the OD/Distortion I need...If you are a boutique pedal collector or love individual pedals to dial in your tone, maybe not your cup of tea...I have one space on my board for a distortion/od that can do it all and this is it...I guess the only setback if I needed to try to say something bad about this pedal is it's not analog or "boutique-y" and the grass is always greener on the other side... but it's all you really need... seriously.

Boss OD-20

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I replaced a 15-20 year old Tom Shultz Rockman rack distortion unit and I am stunned by the Boss. The programmed distortion amps are literally perfect, as well as the ability to multi-layer distortions as well as have variations on each. Blows everything out of the water. Must by power supply.

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

The boss OD-20 is amazing! It has 22 diferent pedals on it and there the best.I love using heavy octave it even leaves the high strings normal but when you hit the low strings its great. It come with four presets but you can change them to what you want. Theres amp control which makes it the best I use a Ibanez RG120 and a line 6 spider 3 amp and the sounds the best.Think of getting a overdrive or distortion, get this one its the best.

HMMMM......

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

Imagine having each of the pedals this thing emulates, all with the dials set at 12oclock with little room for improvement. It gets the idea across on most settings, but for me most are useless. I do have my favorite four settings saved, but that is the od/lead settings at different levels, and the boost which I use in front of my amp for solos. the distortions are too digital and "buzzy" sounding for me.

tons of features but get in the way of themselves

By perry1480

Comments about Boss OD-20 Drive Zone Twin Pedal w/COSM:

I'll start by saying that I'm a tone geek. I take a really long time to dial in my settings. I originally thought that this would quench my tone obsession but it just made it more complex. The features on the od-20 aren't features on the distortion pedals it claims to emulate. The "bottom," "attack shape," and "heavy octave" features get in the way of achieving a sound that comes close to the desired tone emulation. This one is my loaner nowadays.
