Overview

It's one thing to have a sprawling pedal board with every effect pedal you'd ever need, but if one pedal can give you awesome, versatile tone and portability, look no further than the BOSS ME-70. Consolidating over 40 great BOSS effects into a single floor-based multi-effects unit, the ME-70 pedal has no confusing menus or displays to sift through”it was designed to be just as easy to use as a collection of stompboxes. Organized into logical groups, these Boss effects are dialed in with dedicated front-panel knobs. All these guitar effects are housed in Boss's distinctive rock-solid, all-metal chassis, and it runs on either AC power or batteries for maximum portability.

The Effects

The BOSS ME-70 has 8 different effects groups, and all of them can be used independently or simultaneously. Once you dial up your effect type and customize it on the front panel, you can even save your settings for each effect type.

Manual and Memory

The BOSS ME-70 pedal has 2 operating modes: Manual and Memory. In Manual mode the effects function like a floor full of stompboxes; all adjustable on the fly. Its 4 dedicated footswitches allow you to turn the essential effects groups on and off. Once you've got your sound where you want it, Memory mode lets you save the setup as a patch for instant recall. You can save up to 36, and the ME-70 comes with 36 presets to get you started. In Memory mode, the 4 main footswitches let you switch patches and banks with ease.

WOW!! I'm a professional guitarist playing for 37 years. The ME-70 is the best multi-fx unit period!! I'm selling all my pedals. Best features: It's a Boss, and built like a tank. In one hour, I mastered it, manual is small because that's how easy it is to use. Best plug and play unit ever!! Has AC wall wart, and uses 6 AA batteries also. Unplug your guitar input cable, and powers off, just like a Boss pedal!! Uses the same internal design as the GT-10. All effects are top notch. I love the "dotted 8th note delay" used in many songs by a famous Irish band. Love the solo boost mode in the Comp/FX section. Did I mention this unit has the best clean tone I've ever heard?? I've been wary of multi-fx expression pedals. Not any more. The wah is the best I've used. The Overdrive/Distortion combined with the pre-amp and cabinet simulations are the real key here. There is a "mesa boogie close your eyes sound" in it. Yes, that good!! Even has a "rectified breakup" on solos... Every guitarist should demo this, and you will love it!!

I purchased the Boss ME 70 based on my good experience with other Boss pedals. GOOD NEWS: I loved the simplicity of use of this pedal. Very easy to use! BAD NEWS: This pedal sucked the tone out of my guitar. It killed the bass and I found it very difficult to get a clean sound. I was able to somewhat compensate for the tone by boosting the bass on the EQ but it still was not very good. Also, I did not see any true analog bypass of the unit. I took it back to Guitar Center after 3 days and got the Digitech RP 500. I am very happy with it, particularly the amp models (love Twin Reverb sound), chorus, and wah.

Way better then the ME50

By Cris

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I've used the ME50 for a long time and the only thing i never liked which i thought they should fix was the excess noise in the high gain situations. Even with the Thresh on you'd still have that. The ME70 FINALLY fixed that problem and has shown once again that Boss listens to the musician's opinion's and fixes everyones problems. This is an AMAZING pedal and worth the money. The sounds are unbeatable and you can do so much with it. I give it a hands down 5 star!

Noisy Tone Wrecker

By Cooper

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

Concept is good, tone is bad. I liked the idea of multiple stomp boxes in one unit, but I just could not stand the way this unit altered the guitar tone, even with none of the effects turned on. It sounds processed. I also adds pops, hiss, & noise, even with the noise gate turned all the way up. I play good gear (Les Paul Custom, Egnator Tourmaster 4212 Combo) so you might say that I should not expect a $300 multi-effects pedal to improve my tone. But I also have a little Marshall MG50DFX, an inexpensive but decent little amp. I ran the ME-70 through the Marshall and it sounded pretty bad. Noisy, and the effects sounded a lot worse than if you had separate stomp boxes. Many of the effects distort. The harmonizer is cool, but the tone is not. The distortion on the little Marshall beat any of the distortion channels on the ME-70, and the Wah is not really usuable if you are used to a Dunlop. Also, it appears that you can't do quiet "bypass tuning" with the tuner without the sound coming through the amp. No good for live playing. I have no idea if there are better options out there, but I took this back after 3 days of trying to use it. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is that it was really easy to use.

Pretty Amazing - should be 100 more bucks!

By Jason

from Chattanooga, TN

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

BOSS outdid themselves with this one. I have gladly upgraded my ME-50 to this wonder of the world, the ME-70. I play through a VOX Pathfinder and can't wait to start playing it through the church PA. The layout is improved from the already easy to use stompbox format. The only thing missing is the acoustic simulation. They left out the Ring Modulator, but no one was using it anyway! I think this one could have easily been another 50-100 bucks! The tones are amazing and the modeling is much better. BOSS really focused on delivering their best in this price range and added a great looper, EQ and twice the presets so you can save your tones without sacrificing theirs. Worth looking into! Would have gotten a five if it had the acoustic simulation.

WOW

By Mike

from Pittsfield, MA

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

For years I have been debating multi-effect pedals to the single pedals. I purchased many Boss pedals in the past thinking it was the simpler way to go. WOW was I wrong. I just purchase the ME-70 a week ago and first of all I am amazed how simple it is to set up, and second of all the different effects are never ending. A friend of mine has the ME-50 (which he has had for over 6 years) and with one night of playing out he is trading it in for the ME-70. I can set up a loop and figure out leads. With so many banks that can be set up I can use different combinations of effects. I think the wah feature is the best wah that I have ever played. It's a very solid unit and the black color is great looking. Thank you Boss for changing my mind and coming out with such a easy to use and a teriffic sounding unit. You changed my mind on multi-effect pedals.

Buy It

By Uncle Lew

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I have Never written a review before, so this should be interesting... I have 30 Years playing experience and like many, have tone searched for that entire 30 yrs.I have owned what seems like every pedal, guitar, amp, and piece of gear made in search of what works for me. What I wanted was an effects setup that gave me many options, simplicity of use, and would "play nice" with my tube amps. The ME70 works like a charm. The fact that you can go into manual mode and just use the effects with your exsisting Amp and keep that tube tone makes this unit worth the price of admission. Add to that the versatility it has to do other things as well is only icing on the cake. All of that, with a great price and wonderful build quality !!! Buy it. You won't regret it. Those who have given this unit a bad review either got a defective unit (unlikely) or just simply do not know what they are talking about. i could go on, but will not. Try it for yourself, you'll love it.

Great Muti Effects Pedal!!!

By Chris

from Buffalo, New York

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

This pedal is an awesome piece of equipment. I used to have several of the pedals that were included in the me-70 and for the most part they sound just like the original pedals. The downsides i have found with the me-70 is that the overdrive and distortions are very trebley and the phaser and flanger don't have the versatility of the original pedals(i.e. fall setting) however this isn't a huge issue for me personally. Overall this is one of the best investments I've ever made as a musician and would recommend it to anyone that wants a lot of effects for a little price.

The Truth...

By Greg

from Sacramento / San Francisco, CA

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I bought this multi-effects pedal about a year ago. It's got some really cool effects. The Good: - Varied Effects - Great Tone - Great Sound - Can hook two separate AMP's - Decent Chorus / Memory Time - Over-Dubbing The Bad: - The WAH Doesn't Engage All The Time, Test Before A Show. - The Program Memory, pain to change sometimes during a show. The Conclusion: - This is worth the cash, it plays great, sounds great but does take a little bit to get used to. The memory controls aren't the fastest, but can be done. - The WAH is my largest complaint, I wish it worked better, mine might be defective. Anyways, I solved the issue by adding: Dunlop DB-01 Dimebag Crybaby From Hell. The combination is great, amazing for shows. Technical Difficulties: (In case someone wants to rate it poorly, or can't figure it out. There are directions, but two key things to remember.) - Hold Pedal 2-3 to enter Tuner - Hold Pedal 3-4 to enter manual mode. Without being in Manual you'll be forced to use already set or your customized settings in PMode. - Modulation Speed / Delay Hold Pedal 3 or 4 for 2 seconds, LED Light Flashing Indicates Delay or Speed. - Reset Back to Factory hold "Edit / Exit and Press Pedal 3 (mod). Pedal 1: Comp/FX Pedal 2: OD/DS Pedal 3: Modulation Pedal 4: Delay Pedal 5: Expression / Master As I mentioned, awesome Pedal.

They finally did it!!

By Chris Carter

from Waldorf, MD

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

Boss has truly outdone themselves. Purchase this pedal and you will not need another because it offers it all. Looping, distortion, delay...the list goes on and on. My favorite would have to be a setting titled "Slow gear" which offers volume swells which mimic a violin. The Wah isn't perfect but I have yet to see an all around better pedal.

Amazing

By David

Comments about Boss ME-70 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

This pedal is pretty amazing. I was skeptikal at first getting a multi effects pedal because i didnt want to sacrifice tone but after weeks of searching i came upon the ME-70. The tone is absoulutely spectactular and despite its thick owners manual it is suprisingly easy to use, I found myself being able to do all i wanted very quickly. Very smart design, awesome effects, sleek black metal, its built like a tank, it pretty much has it all. I can practically craft any tone i need and there is some awesome stuff to play with as well. Im particularly fond of the phrase loop, it makes it so easy to write a rhythm and lead part when you dont have someone to jam with and is incredibly useful. Overall a great product and i definitely reccomend it.
