I bought this a few years back when I was fairly inexperienced in terms of effects for guitar. I had for years just used my amp's reverb, chorus, and distortion. So, I bought this thinking I'd save some money over buying many effects pedals and I'd have a lot of options. The quality is decent. Like other reviews, there are quite a few types of distortion, but none have that ummph, if you know what I mean. The mod effects are pretty good no complaints there. The wah is difficult because it doubles as volume control. So, if you set the height of the petal to the desired volume, but then need to go into wah, the volume goes up and when you step the wah on, the volume stays high. You can work around this by setting the master volume lower and the pedal volume all the way up, but then you don't have volume swells. Lastly, you can save up to 30 custom effects-combos in the banks. Trouble is that when switching between them there is a second delay. Not cool live when trying to go from clean to distortion on the downbeat and it sounds like you missed it. I actually don't use the banks live for this reason. I typically use the banks for recording, but that leads to problems because I have to rewrite the effects for songs when I do them live. So, if you're not really sure what sound you want and need some place to start, this is a great petal. It has taught me what I like and dislike so in the future I can buy specific petals to define my sound.

I purchased the ME-50 because I became interested in effects to fill out my sound--I play on an OG 5150 through vintage 30's. Through friends & reviews I thought that I would find the ME-50 perfect for my needs--I didn't. The delay features are great and easier to use than the DD-6. Most of the Distortions are OK but I don't use them because I'm satisfied w/my amp's tone. The modulation effects (flange, phaser, etc.) are OK as well--a little digital. My main problem with the unit is the expression pedal features. I mainly wanted to use Wah and the Volume feature for swells and lighter distorted parts. However, the expression pedal doesn't have a clean gradual sweeping range--it seems to be either all on or all off. Pretty lame for Wah, reduces volume pedal to on/off switch. If you are a 1st or 2nd year player this is probably a great unit to learn what these effects can do. For the discriminating player, however, you will need to just save up and get the individual pedals that you need to sound how you want.

PURE ANALOG TONE FOR LIVE AND RECORDING USE

By BOSS MAN!

I have used this thing countless times live and for recording. Sounds absolutely amazing plug straight into the PA or from the ME50 to a amp then to a PA. Sounds awesome. The distortion was surprisingly EXCELLENT and so were the effects. Oh and the WAH is incredibly!! Buy this and you won't look back!!

Great buy

By Chavi

I got this pedal because they told me was the best. They were right. The lead guitarist at my church owns one too. We love it, easy to handle, so many different sounds. Price is great for this beauty.

Bang for your Bcuk!

By Buddyguitarbcn

from Massachusetts

You get everything in this thing! Do not hesitate in buying this i've played it many a time and it has the full package. You get wammy, the heavy metal crunch. This thing can make a 1-year guitar player sound like Eddie Van Halen. It is also a whole lot cheaper than getting all the effects this holds seperatly. So what if it is digital, so is everything else.

An Awesome Multi Digital Effect Pedal!!

By sdukuleleb

from San Diego

The Boss ME-50 is essential to any musician's amp equipment! I recently traded my single effects pedals in for the ME-50, and now I feel like I can control the entire line of Boss pedals all from my compact ME-50. This is a sick pedal to bring on the road because of its portability and the overdrive, Wah Wah, reverb, and distortion choices are limitless. Boss has definetly made a high quality, mind blowing product with almost limitless sound modification abilities!

This thing rocks!!!!

By Ironman420

from Zimmerman, MN

I recently traded in my old pedals and purchased the ME-50. It's like I have every BOSS stomp pedal in one PLUS MORE!!! Plus the sound is so crystal clear. I especially love the +1 Octave on the expression pedal it is so high pitched I almost can't believe it. Buy this pedal it will blow your mind. SDMF

It's okay...

By Guitar MAn

from Auburn, CA

I got this thing when I started up in my band and I gotta say this thing is impossible to control live. It kinda sucks how u cant use two effects at once, like switching from flanger to chorus in a song. I have to bend over while the songs going to change the effect. This thing is great for just rockin out n guitar and pretty good for recording. I wouldnt recomend this for a pro musician.

Worth it for Awhile

By GuitarMaster09

from Baltimore,MD

When i first got it it was incredible. After using it for about 3 months, the system started to fail on me. I went and got it fixed and they said everything would be fine but then it ended up not working again a week later. I took it back and they said it was unfixable, so i decided just to get my money back. By that time it was too late to get it back.

Good Choice

By LukeMomp

from Fort Wayne, IN

As an experienced guitarist, I concider this effects box or peddal one of the best there is to choose from. The sounds you can create from it are virtually unlimited. I especially enjoy using Wah Wah, reverb, and all of the distortion and overdrive choices. Mix a few together and you have an incredible sound! Also, the great price deal is one of a kind! It's hard to find such an incredible piece of equiptment that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! I personally recomend this item.

Fun to play by yourself

By tele' man

from Gulf Breeze, FL

I bought the ME-50 for playing with friends on the weekends, and it worked out fine when I played for fun. But when I used it for a gig, switching was a nightmare. The volume had to be constantly changed with each effect, so I did alot of 'dancing on the pedals'. For playing alone, it's great, but I won't use it for another gig, it is too much of a hassle.
