ok ok. people getting ready to buy this, or have thought about it, i know you're probably getting a lot of mixed reviews. but you got to see and hear this pedal to truly appreciate it. the dual distortion/gain boost knobs make your sound perfect. from a thrash distortion to a nice bluesy overdrive if you want. and the tone/bottom knobs allow you to perfectly shape your sound, and then your amp EQ can add more to that. it's true you might want a noise suppressor, but that sound, you know that "pssssss" noise, thats just the awesome trying to escape its little orange cage. i play hard rock/inudstrial/rockabilly, and this pedal is perfect. buy it if you want to be really cool.

This pedal by BOSS isn't as good as they're others in my opinion. It's a little TOO fuzzy, your guitarwork hardly shines through, BUT on the positive side, if you want extremely distorted sounds with PLENTY of bottom-end, this is the pedal for you.

It Does It's Job, I'd Rather Have a Mesa Dual Rec

By Garrett Thomas

from Rock Hill, SC

This pedal does it's job and has an okay tone. You'd have to turn it up really loud for a good lead tone, but it's got a really good rhythm soun, even without the Gain Boost. I'll use it for now, but frankly, I'll be getting an amp for high gain uses--NOT using this for a long time.

Versatile pedal in the right hands & In Utero type Cobain sounds.

By Ryan Smith

from Texas

If you know the way Kurt Cobain would play, then you'll have an idea of what the pedal can pull off. It's not muddy, but if you set it up with your amp pushing your signal hard... your amp could sound muddy. The pedal is a heavy, meat and potatoes distortion sound. It's easy going for dirty country and softer than AC/DC with distortion + gain turned down to zero (7 o'clock.) That makes for a tight crunch and good rhythm guitar for classic rock. Distortion dialed in at 9-10 o'clock is a really heavy Back in Black lead, but sounds amazing! Played with SSS strat and it sounds evil turned above 12 o'clock distortion + gain. Playing with humbuckers makes it lean towards metal, but the tone is still full and not hollow. If you like 90's rock, then you're in luck and you can easily cover Nirvana with a SSS Strat and replicate all of Cobain's crazy tricks. (Gain is really powerful on this pedal, very little goes a long way! I wouldn't recommend stacking a booster or EMG active pickups... this is a wild pedal! It's my all around #1distortion pedal. (The noise people speak of is from having their EQ and gain on their amps set much too high. The reason for the pedal is to bypass that circuit because it offers more, not compensate by adding to what is there.)

Great pedal if you know how to use your gear.

By Jake

from Tacoma, WA

First off I will say that this is a really great pedal. It has all the range of the distortion that I need for what I play which is punk, pop punk and hardcore. I used a Schecter C-1 E/A through a Peavey Valveking 212. I have had no problems with feedback even with the semi hollow guitar. You just need to adjust out the noise. If you know how to use your EQ knobs and volume you will have no problem with feedback.

Great pedal

By Noodl

from Greer, SC

I play a LP through a Blues Jr. and most distortion pedals are really high pitched and without any bottom end. This pedal gives me the kick-in-the-gut distortion that I wanted. I don't use distortion very often (usually just my tube screamer overdrive) but this one gets the job done, from light overdrive to off the charts fuzz. Love it!

Very Dependable/Above Average

By Brandon

from Buena Park, CA

When I was reading the reviews before I bought it I was afraid there would be too much noise or such but I tried it out at the store and I ended up getting it. It really is quite versatile and you can play the majority of genres out there. It can play the mildest of songs and be turned up to the verge of heavy but still isn't quite enough to play real metal. The only downside to it is that the bottom knob is kind of pointless. If you turn it down it can be useful but anywhere past the straight up position is going to implode your head with bass not to mention kill your amp. There is some noise produced by it but if you buy any decent noise gate or just tinker with your amp settings a bit, it goes away quickly. Recommended for anyone playing classic rock, or alternative rock.

Boss is the Boss

By Josh Vandermeer

from Lakewood, CA

I Got this pedal because i needed a thick, heavy distortion. It not only did that perfectly, but it's amazing how much control you have over what kind of sound comes out. Two things i really like about it is the tone control, which is like a double knob with tone and bottom end (really useful). The other thing i like about it is the gain boost. This pedal is cheap and puts out an amazing sound. Buy one.

NEW REVIEW-Rock ON!!!!

By Jonah the Shredder

from Framingham MA

I Just picked up this Pedal this afternoon and when i brought it home man Did it sound great!!! I played through my Line 6 Spider III Amp and It sounds so cool when you put the Amp on Metal Tone and I created my own sound already!! The only down side is that when you kick up the distortion all the way your guitar sounds Smaller and it doesn't have a full tone anymore but otherwise this product rocks I recommend buying this!!!
