Katana—the traditional sword carried by the historic samurai of Japan—is a symbol of honor, precision, and artistry in Japanese culture. Adopting the majestic sword’s name with pride, the Katana series presents guitar amplifiers with smooth, cutting tones honed by generations of dedication and expertise. Born of the development process behind the acclaimed Waza amplifier, these innovative amps embody BOSS’s determined pursuit of the ultimate rock sound. Featuring proprietary circuit designs and meticulous tuning, the Katana Series combines traditional craftsmanship and breakthrough functions to produce true next-generation rock amplifiers.

With 100 watts of power and a custom 12 in. speaker, the Katana KTN-100 delivers a commanding range of gig-worthy tones that gracefully slice through any band scenario. The amp also excels for home playing, with a uniquely efficient design and innovative Power Control that provides inspiring sound and response at low volumes. In addition, the Katana KTN-100 includes integrated access to 55 BOSS effects, which are customizable using the free BOSS Tone Studio editor software. Up to 15 different effects can be configured in the amp at one time, enabling you to bring fully prepared tones to the stage in one amp.

A Refined Amp with Inspiring Tone
Designed for guitarists who are serious about their sound, the Katana KTN-100 offers exceptional tone and touch response for stage playing, recording, and simply practicing at home. The custom 12-in. speaker is driven by a special method developed for the flagship Waza amp that optimizes the speaker and cabinet character. This gives you authoritative punch and cutting presence previously attainable only with high-end amp designs. In combination with the five selectable amp characters, the Katana KTN-100 produces class-defying power and expressiveness to meet any playing situation.

Five Original Amp Characters, Honed for Rock Playing
Sharpened to perfection by the BOSS engineering team, the Katana KTN-100’s five amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds. Clean is natural and transparent, while Crunch offers satisfying grit and response. Lead has a wide gain range to suit many styles, from fat, stinging blues solos to fluid legato shredding. With DNA inherited from the Waza amp, Brown delivers refined high-gain tone sought after by the world’s greatest rock players. The Acoustic character further enhances the Katana’s versatility, providing optimized tone that makes acoustic-electric guitars sound stunningly natural.

Leave Your Pedal Board at Home
With its built-in BOSS effects and recallable Tone Settings, the Katana KTN-100 lets you perform anywhere with just a guitar and amp. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio via USB provides access to 55 effects that are fully customizable for your needs. Going beyond standard distortion, delay, and reverb, the selection also includes powerful tone-shapers like pitch shifting, ring mod, slicer, and more. You can load 15 different effects in the amp at one time and use up to three simultaneously. Four Tone Settings let you store custom amp and effects setups for instant recall, and you can always jump to the current panel settings at the touch of a button. It's also possible to connect optional footswitches and expression pedals for hands-free control on the gig.

Grab-and-Go Operation
While the Katana KTN-100 includes many advanced features, it’s amazingly simple to operate. Dedicated knobs for multiple gain stages, three-band EQ, and presence allow you to quickly dial in your tone by ear, just as you would with a standard tube amp. Essential effects parameters are adjusted with a simple knob twist, and memories can be stored with a brief button hold. The Power Control is great for throttling back the volume for small stages and home playing, and also includes a Standby setting that mutes the sound for switching guitars or taking breaks. And by flipping out the integrated tilt stand, you can easily angle the amp back for better sound projection.

BOSS Tone Central
At the BOSS Tone Central website, you’ll find numerous free amp and effects setups for the Katana Series. Created by pro guitarists, these setups provide ready-to-play sounds for various music styles, and also make great starting points for building your own sounds. They load into the memories in a Katana amp via the BOSS Tone Studio editor software, which is also available at the site. In addition to Katana effects selection and customization, BOSS Tone Studio gives you a convenient way to organize all your Katana setups for different gigs, recordings, and practice sessions.

This is the evolution of the solid state amp.

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

This is hands down the best sounding solid state amp ever created. The "brown" setting nails the EVH 5150 tone. You get it all in one box. This amp makes my life so much easier. I cannot see myself ever replacing this amp. I have went through 20 amps in the last 5 years and this is my all time favorite. I gig with this amp. It can handle a small bar and a massive 2500 seater venue.

Excellent Modeling Amp

By JohnG

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Have used this amp for about a week now and am really impressed with it. Nice organic tone with a lot of adjustability. The cleans are clear and punchy and the crunch amp type has enough grit for SRV type tones. Takes pedals really well: Have used it with a compressor and drive pedal. The parametric adjustability for the effects is really nice and illustrates the next gen (relative to Fender, Blackstar, etc) aspect of the DSP in the amp.

The power scaling switch gives the amp a lot of volume range. I use the amp mostly on the 0.5W position which is plenty loud for bedroom/studio levels. That said, the default 0.5W, 50W, 100W SHOULD BE 0.5W, 5W, 100W. That would be a MUCH better power scale.

The SW interface is just OK from a look-feel perspective but it does allow for an amazing depth of paramentric effects adjustability. That said, the documentation for the firmware update process is absolutely abysmal. If it wasn't for some online forum info this update process would not have happened.

The other issue that I initially had with the amp was the VERY low volume on the Clean Amp type relative to the Crunch Amp. I'm guessing the Clean amp volume is ~20 dB lower than the Crunch amp. I was able to equalize the Clean amp volume using the Clean Boost effect. A better solution would be for Boss to fix this with a firmware update.

It's interesting to compare this amp to my Mustang III which I've had for several years. The MIII has great Fender clean tones but I've never been overwhelmed with the crunchy side of that amp. This Katana seems to have similar Cleans and really nice Crunch tones.

Disclosure: I have only used this amp at low-mid/high home volume levels.

Keeping it simple

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Being a BOSS product user since the late 70's early 80's, I was very excited to see a BOSS amp coming out. So I got the first 100w 112 combo that the GC had seen. Didn't even test drive it. Picked it up new in box and took it home. Plugged in and was not surprised at all how awesome it sounded. On every wattage level. On the 100w setting the clean headroom is just there. You can hear every bit of articulation from your hands on the guitar strings. On the crunch lead and brown settings again pure perfect tone regardless of the volume level.
Effects are spot on and NO screen menus to scroll through. Plug and Play. Set it, forget it.
The price is so affordable you cant go wrong.

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I use the Katana for bedroom and home use at the 0.5 watt setting, but when needed, it's an incredibly loud 50 and 100w. It's tone is unbeatable for the price. The onboard effects are simple and easy to use. The layout is also simple and approachable, so you don't have option paralysis. My only complaint is that on my amp, specifically, I can't seem to open up the tilt stand. But all in all, I would totally recommend this to a friend! (It's a step up from his Crate FlexWave)
