Eats Batteries

By John Parkinson

from wilmington mc

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

This is a very versatile metronome. It is quite pricey. It goes thru a 9 volt battery in about 2 hours. That can be very frustrating since removing the battery or the battery going dead while unit is on erases any stored tempo memories that you have programmed. That can be disastrous in a live performance. One option is to buy the 9 volt transformer. I tried an extra Panasonic transformer that I had but it caused a very loud hum thru the headphone jack. Think about getting a transformer or a ton of 9 volt batteries. If you use batteries live, change out before the performance and every couple of hours after.

Boss DB 90 Dr Beat Metronome

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

The Guitar Center is a very nice and helpful place to shop. I bought this metronome for my spn's birthday and he is pleased with it's use for guitar. When the store made a mistake in shipping (which can happen anywhere) it was quickly and effectively made right. I recommend the Guitar Center for it's products, and for it's thoughtful and helpful staff.

It's the Best Solution I've found for live metronome use

By David Straley

from Austin, TX

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I wanted a metronome for live use. I play keys and every drummer I've ever worked with will "drift" over time. They may think they don't, but they do. Back in the 70's I read an interview with the drummer for "Yes", and he talked about using a metronome live. I was shocked; it had never occurred to me. So a few years ago, I convinced our drummer to try it. He agreed. I will say that every drummer I've met hates playing with a metronome. But nevertheless we gave it a shot. It took a while to get it to be "natural", but we kept tweaking the way we do it. That brings me to today. Now I realized that in order to really do this right, it is I who needs to control the metronome - not the drummer. (That's another discussion.) That means that now I had to find a solution. I read reviews from all over the place on every machine I could find. I considered using my Roland drum machine, but it's tempo knob was too flakey, so that wouldn't work, either. I checked out metronomes in person at Guitar Center after reading as many reviews as I could. This one - the Roland DB-90 - was by far the most expensive metronome. Do you want to spend money? I don't. When I play (praise and worship genre) I typically have 13 songs, and there are multiple sets. Not many machines could handle that many tempos. This one stores 50. Also, I would really like to be able to advance the songs with a foot switch. This one does that as well. So, I sprung for the thing. Paid full Guitar Center price, minus some little discount. Not happy about all that! (eBay prices were no better than Guitar Center because no one was selling this used.) However, this has been THE ANSWER to my problems. Now, the drummer and I hear both the music and the metronome in our earphones ? everyone else just the music. I program the tempos ahead of time. This programming time is SO FAST TO DO, I was really surprised. Including 6/8 tempos ? no problem. It probably takes me 5 minutes to program my 13 tempos and then to verify them. Then, in my live situationn, I advance from song to song with a foot switch. This has revolutionized our ?flow?. We only take a few seconds between songs now. Typically, people are clapping for the last song (amazing, eh?) while we are starting the next one. It makes for a real polished set, I tell you. We never used to be able to do that. This was the most expensive machine I found ? but this is worth it to me, because it genuinely solved my problem. (Your mileage may vary.) For gripes, I will say this: I do wish there were more selections of metronome sounds. There are (I think) 3 sounds, plus a 4th one which is a goofy robotic voice saying ?one, two, three, four, one, two three four ?? Pah-leese. I have a couple Roland synths and I know Roland has zillions of sounds at their fingertips. ?Hey Roland, you could do better than this with the sound choices in this DB-90 metronome, OK?? (?And give me a free upgrade when you fix it up, will you??) That?s it ? God bless!

Great but be careful

By DGB

from St. John, Indiana

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I purchased this and loved everything about it. Unfortunately within the first two weeks I had a problem. I went to change the 9-volt and the the positive and negative attachments for the battery to the pad one of them broke off. There was no way for me to fix this on my own so I had to return the product. I did not get another one because I was afraid the little components would fall off again. It would be far better if this used regular batteries and had an adapter.

Ehh

By Quall

from Paris, France

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

It was okay... I had it about a year and it served a good purpose while it worked. But soon enough, the sliders stopped working, the round yellow knob fell off, it would randomly turn reset itself (even with new batteries). The memory function was kind of difficult to set IMO (WAY easier to set on the Tama Rhythm Watch) It's also very overpriced. I bought the Tama rhythm watch. it was 100 dollars cheaper, and I have to say, i don't miss all the little functions that the DB had, Tama Rhythm Watch is simpler, and i can still plug it into the system and use it as a click track using a direct box.

top of the line metronome

By mike mcaloon

from houston, tx

Comments about Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome:

I'm a drummer and I use this metronome to practice and play live with as a click track. I like how I can run a 1/4 cable to the mixer for the band to put in their monitors, and then run a 1/8 headphone to my in ears. The two most important buttons are in a good spot tempo tap and start/stop. The internal speaker is loud enough to practice snare drum with but it gets lost if you play the full kit. I mount this on my hi-hat stand and it's easy to reach and adjust tempos during the set. It also accepts a foot pedal for start stop function that way. Make sure you pick up the a/c adapter because it will go through 9v batteries pretty quick.
