This pedal adds a lot of sustain to your guitar. It works good as a compressor as well. I don't think this is a pedal that I would use on a daily basis but it's a good pedal to have never the less. I think that my only legitimate complaint would be that it is a little noisy especially if you turn up the sustain to high, so if you are going to add this pedal to your board then I would suggest you buy a noise suppressor if you don't already have one.
why 4 stars, well the manual sucked, but thank god for some youtube reviews that can help guide you. Its a Boss so you know its built well. As for the sound, it really fills it out, you may have to learn to pull back your attack a touch. When you add a lot of sustain there is quite a bit of noise, my noise gate fixes that, start with everything at 12 o clock and adjust slowly, as in finite adjustments. Pacement, my tuner, my wah, my ac-3 acoustic simulator, then my cs3 followed by distortion and over drive
This pedal is great for funk rock like Red Hot Chili Peppers or old school funk and smooths out your sound and is amazing for soloing with any genre! Very happy with this pedal!
Great pedal to get a nice and subtle attack in clean and distortion sounds. I use it only for solos either by itself or after a dist pedal. I have a cry-baby after it and it works great.
this thing is pretty good. i was doing some cleaning out of our band room at my church and i found this thing in there and nobody claimed it or knew about it so i assumed its from one of the older members (that room was a pit). i took it home and tried it out and i really like it. very good sustain and doesnt affect the tone. best for solos. only thing i dislike about it is it makes some feedback sounds. easily fixed by and kind of noise gate. i also have a line 6 super metal distortion pedal that i use as a cord connection. the line 6 has a 2 stage noise gate built in so im set =)boss cs-3 is the way to go!
This pedal is awesome in front of any amp. It can make your tone heavier than you've ever imagined and also can sustain those dry clean tones so that they sound beautiful and huge. I've used it in front of a vox night train on clean tones as well as a variety of other amps. I also use it in front of my orange amp and in front of my mesa stilleto. I just turn the gain on the amp down a little, and the distorted tones I get on my recordings have that clarity and thickness you hear in todays popular guitar tones. It's a cheap pedal that just makes your tone...... TONEFUL.
This pedal is an small tank, really strong and well constructed (this is an standar on boss pedals), i use it beetwen guitar and amp, and sent my effects procesor to the amp loop, it sounds great, giving your guitar precence and recovering the best frecuences of the distorted or clean sound, putting them in a block, its a little monster in that aspect. It also give you tons of sustain, is just great, you can explore so much armonics on feedback with this one, beautiful. The think i didnt liked, the noise, when you try out on top level ans sustain at the same time, it makes too much noise, thats why i woul like tu put 4.5 instead of 5. But finaly i think most of analog stomp boxes have this problem. If you like your guitar going into the songs like a muscle car into the road, buy this one.
I have a Fat Strat playing through an unmodified Peavey Classic 30 vacuum tube amp. I ove the sounds, but the higher end solos and artificial harmonics I felt were rather "weak". So I redid by pedals (from a BOSS multi-effects).If you dial in the sustain around 10 with a low eq and attack and a 3 o'clock turn on the level knob, you get those classic Neal Schon solo tones (sounds gret in conjunction with Boss DD-3) and also helps get those classic Van Halen squeals. Wouldn't trade this pedal for the world!!
This Compression pedal is amazing. I acually use it as a boost or to add fatness to my clean tone. To me it really brings out the true tone of my guitar.
I bought this pedal a couple days ago with a ge-7 to try and tighten up my sound a bit. It deffinetely did that, but im not sure how the sustain works. i know what it is supposed to do, but it doesnt seem to do it like it should. all in all a great purchase though. It helped make things a little more clear. I run this and a zakk wylde wah out of my effect loop, and a mt-2 and the ge-7 through the loop in the noise suppressor. It took a couple tries to get the sound right but well worth it!
