This device was very nice when i bought it. I used it for Home Recordings, as that is the main reason anyone would buy one of these. =) It was a little hard to figure out how to use it at first...but thats why theres a very thick instruction manual that comes with it. The drum machine got me though, even though i was reading the instruction manual...i still couldn't really figure it out. But it is a good machine once you master it. The final recording quality is phenomonal, and the ease of burning Cd's makes recording and showing your friends an ease. There are numerous effects, and they all sound fantastic. Boss makes some great guitar equipment, and now they're recording equipment is getting pretty big also. This Multitrack Digital Recorder is a dream to anybody who wants recording studio quality right at home.

Let me first say this deck has about all you need for home recording and demo production. The on board guitar effects are good but the distortion patches are very noisy with a lot of hum. The mastering capability is above average for a home deck, not full blown, but decent. Now the down side, it will not take you long to completely hate the pre-amps when doing vocals. Even with phantom powered condensors, you only have two input choices, too low to hear when the backing tracks are brought up or walking a thin line from distortion. You can get decent recordings if you don't use the COSM stereo channel capability to do your instrumentals, just multi-track everything. It will sound weak but ok. pitch correction has a definate "munchkinization" quality to it, but if the corrections are small the effect will be unnoticable. The manual is useless, go online and check out how to's from people who have figured out. It's an easy deck to learn even with trail and error. Because of the Con's I would rate this a good $700 deck, not $1200. I know I've been fairly negative but it's an ok deck as long as you know what to expect up front.

Expensive for a reason

By J W

from seattle, wa

This Multi track recorder is expensive because It is simply The best, Elite. All The effects are superb & The high quality recording rate is second to none. It also has a vocal harmonizer. You simply Cannot beat that. Great Job boss. Now, not only can I record my music but, I can also practice & record my live gigs with my band. Too Cool & a lot faster than my laptop without the inputs for set up.

NICE!!!

By John

from Riverside, RI

I have had this for about 3 months now and it has impressed me every bit of the way. When I say this I mean, take your time, read the manual and you will be amazed at what the recorder can do. Vocal Box, Mastering Tool Kit and Speaker Modeling along with COSM, make this unit a must have.

Amazing product

By Ethan

from Mebane, NC

The Boss BR-1600CD is a masterpiece of Boss. i bought this used from a studio near my practice space and as soon as i got it i was amazed at the quality of recordings and ease of use. There are a few tricks to the recorder but with a few hours of playing with it you figure it out really quick. im recording my drums (Tama starclassic Maple) with a thrown together mic combination, including a Sm57, audix F14, an AKG D5 and a shure SM48. it sounds incredible, it has phantom power for condenser mics, it also has auto punch in and out so that's really really helpful. This is an incredible product and if you have a good amount of cash i would definitely purchase this. P.S. the hard drive just failed in my recorder, however im luckily a computer nerd and replaced it with an old computer harddrive i had laying around, the new HDD has 80 GB storage space and can record 133 hours on one track. The Customer support for Roland/Boss is incredible, they helped me tons!!! dont worry about the hard drive failure in your multitrack, the guy i bought it from was somewhat rough on his model and i think it got its fair share of abuse. there was also a penny in the casing so that may have connected some things that were not supposed to be connected =0 anyway its a great buy and i would definitely add it to your cart now.

Amazing

By Doop

I bought this system a few months ago and it is purely unbeatable. I have become well known in my area for recordings and I am even making a profit off of recording people. The only suggestion I could make is to buy studio condensor microphones to accompany this.

excellent

By Scott Bowcock

from Citrus heights California

The BR1600 takes up little space and packs a wall full of effects and sound. However, It really needs a how to video or turorial as it is a little more difficult to use due to the amount of functions that the recorder provides. I have personally Put my machine away after only six tracks due to the manual not being enough for me to accomplish all that the Br1600 is capable of doing. I would love to take it back off of the shelf and use the machine if I could get some help in this area. When inquiring assistance from the music store where I had purchased the recorder they offered to help for one hundred twenty dollars per hour. In short, I believe that It is a wonderful recorder for those that can figure out how to use it. I have been recording for most of my life in professional studio's and home studio's and this machine does do all that it claims. I am asking that the company send me a video with step by step instructions that coincide with the Instruction book.

It is a great device

By Gerald M Bertheaume

from Earth

At first I thought the sound quality of 16 bit would not match a 24 bit sound, it doesn't but only experienced engineers can hear it. Learn to use everything especialy the Mastering program,it will improve what you can do by 50% or better. No this isn't a hard device to use and the manuel is well written, forget the size of it, just learn the stuff you need. It is nice useing this with my pc studio, which you can do in three ways. I stand by it and I have 48 years in this art.

A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!

By rocker

from Lake Jackson, TX

This is an absolute must for any traveling musician. I composed an entire album on the road using this machine. It's easy to set up and use. All the effects you could possibly need are built in. It really is a great plug and play recorder. I recorded each song then burned it straight to CD and started again. The sound quality was great. I couldn't live without it now.

This is the best of it's kind. I have had this recorder for 3 years. I haven't had any problems with it. It records clear tracks. It has tons of options that I didn't even know existed. Great value, great recorder to get!
