I have used many flangers over the years and the Boss BF-3 Flanger is in the top of the class. Whether you want a touch of coloring or oceans of swirl, this pedal will do it all. The BF-3 features a pink metal casing, the same easy click-less switching and red led check light that all boss pedals are known for. It has four main adjustment knobs, of which, the mode knob has the most variety of options. "Standard" mode covers all the basic amounts of flange for most applications. For those who like their flange extra thick, there is "Ultra" mode which gives more of an edge than the standard provides. "Gate/Pan" mode gives a slicer effect that is like a tremolo with a light swirl, and "Momentary" gives you the option of keeping the pedal active only when the pedal is depressed, in a non-latching fashion, for those quick touches. As with most flangers the rate knob controls the speed of the swirl, and the depth knob adjusts the amount of thickness in the effect in contrast to the instrument itself. The last knob is a 2 stage control. The inner knob controls the resonance, and the outter knob controls manual. These 2 work together to adjust which range is affected by the flanging. At complete polar opposites, at one end it will give a lower swirl, and when reversed, it gives a a higher metallic flange. If you depress the pedal and hold it for a minimum of 2 seconds you can set the tempo so your effect speed is in sync with your music. When this is accesed you simply set it by tapping a few beats on the pedal in time with your song and it syncs up instantly. The BF-3 also has duel outputs so it can be operated in mono or stereo for maximum effect. The only feature missing on this pedal is a volume control knob, but with the thickness control you can pretty much compensate for its abscence. Overall the Boss BF-3 Flanger is everything most of the great flangers are and then some. It allows for complete control over any type of flanging effect you could ever desire. With a descent price and pro features the BF-3 proves to be yet another classic from Boss.

I've owned this pedal for about 3 years and it gets thrown around all the time and it still sounds great. My bass player using it too and it sounds just as good on with bass. I dont use it as much as i use to, but i always know it will work when i break it out. Lots of different tone options compared to the Diaz version of this.

SIck Pedal

By Lemon

from Islip NY

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

If you want a thick, controllable flange, this is the pedal you need, especially for bassists. Some amazing sounds will come out of your amp when you plug in this pedal. I personally enjoy setting it at a very slow rate, equipping me for some psychadelic bss playing. I recommend this pedal for guitarists and bassists.

Greatest Flanger Ever!!!

By Zach

from Missouri

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

I bought this Flanger pedal a while ago because I was looking for a different sound for my music that would set me apart from others. And wow was this the pedal to do that with! I was looking for a Flanger pedal and figured to go with Boss because of the great sound and durability of my Overdrive pedal I have from them. I tried out a few other Flanger pedals but this pedal topped them all. It is great, it has many options on the pedal for Regular Flanger, Ultra Flanger for a more deeper odd sound, and then Gate/Pan which fades the guitar in and out. I recently started using this with a SX Jazz Bass and fell in love with what it does for Bass Guitars. If you are looking for a Flanger Pedal, look no further. This pedal has all the Flanger you will ever need hands down!

Flange

By ramon

from san diego

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

The Boss BF-3 Flanger is one of the best mid-priced flangers out there in pedal land. The range of modulation manipulation the BF-3 is capable of is staggering. Spend an hour or two with this wonder and you'll be dialing in typical "finger on the tape" flanger sounds, insane jet plane swooshings, sweeping choruses, death-ray vibratos, hazy pads, short reverberated slapbacks, and even a bit of lead boost! Toss a distortion in the mix and you're in a whole other realm of wild and wacky sounds. When activated, the BF-2 does tend to add a tiny bit of metallic ping to your overall sound, which may be a little disappointing if you're used to the warm MXR or ADA Flangers of the 1970s. Despite this slight sonic annoyance, it's still a great box with a lot of tricks up its purple sleeve.

Very Nice!

By cloudyeyetavern

from Springfield, MO

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

A thick and meaty flanger, this thing is not fooling around! So it sounds amazing, but I do notice a pretty big volume boost when I engage it (especially on a distorted tone). I kind of wish it had some kind of "Mix" knob, because when I kick it on sometimes, I'm like "Whoa"!

Great Flanger Pedal

By KingUrth

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

I went to Guitar Center to test out several flangers for my bass, and not only am I satisfied with my purchase, but Boss now has me sold on effects pedals for a very long time. This pedal sounds great through both my bass and my guitar, although it sounds a little better when I run it through my guitar. I love all the knobs, which allow you to get many sounds out of this thing. From a slow, deep flange to a quick shallow one, you can get a lot out of this baby. I also like the "Ultra" and "Pan" options, which add a lot to the versatility. The only drawback is the price. It's a little expensive, but it's for the most part worth the price. Also, this thing feels pretty solid. I wouldn't necessarily go throwing it out windows, but I'd bet it would survive even the craziest of gigs. I'm still working on writing songs that sound good with it though. :-P More recenlty, I've been using the pedal to make sound effects by plugging it in and either playing muted strings or rubbing strings with hard objects to get bizarre noises.

The ultimate effect!

By DaYooper

from Christmas, MI

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

When I used this pedal, I was first playing a les Paul through an epiphone 35w amp. The BF-3 was in the effects chain at my local music store, not being familiar with what the Flanger did I turned it on with the delay, compression and overdrive. WOW. The sounds that came next sounded as if I had been transported directly to the dark side of the moon. I'm in to the etherial rock sound, you simply can't NOT have the BF-3 if you want spacey sounds. Of all the pedals I have used, this may be simply the most unique one of them all.

All You'd Need in a Flanger

By Thomas Nelson

from Newport News, VA

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

I can't say anything bad about this pedal. I don't use a ton of flange, but when I do, it has everything I need. Has a great, natural sound and a TON of settings/features. More than I need, to be honest. But I like having options. Great pedal.

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

The Boss BF-3 Flanger is a very fun pedal to use. The sound quality is great. I've been playing with it for a few months and I couldn't be happier. It sounds great with any type of distortion pedals, and by itself. This is definatly one of my favorite effect pedals that Boss offers.

The Purple Pill

By Shaggy187

from Chicago

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

A great pedal from the best pedal maker. The Boss flanger is for clean or distortion. You can find hundreds of different sound. I have been using this pedal for awhile now and I am still finding crazy and unearthly sounds. A great buy for any rig. Half stack or 15 watt practice amp the boss flanger sounds amazing. The only down-side to this pedal is you have to have a couple hours free when you get it because once you start fiddling with the knobs you will not want to stop.

A top notch Flanger

By Dogstarr1

from Kennesaw, GA

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

The Boss BF-3 Flanger, the latest generation of Boss' purple flanger effects, is basically an upgraded stereo version of the now classic BF-2 Flanger and it produces the same thick, full, swirly Flanges that you'd expect. As usual with Boss, you have to mark your settings to "save" them, but the quality is comparable to that of a fairly high end rackmount unit and if you're needing to add just 1 effect in a chain, it's perfect. When it comes to a good Flange effect in pedal form, it's either this one or MXR, you should really check them both out as they each have their own unique voice, with the MXR of course being associated with EVH it gets a bit more prestige, but you definetly shouldn't overlook the BF-3 as I think the Boss sounds a bit sweeter(though being a Flange, it can get pretty ugly too, so be careful :) ).

Best Flanger

By '66Charger 731

from Illnois

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

This is the best pedal I have. It was the first pedal I got. I had it for a year and I love it since. I like the samples in the manual better than the ones I can come up with. Some of the bass samples sound great on the guitar. Sometime I use it with a wah. You can come up with creative ideas after looking at the samples. You can make flanger tremolo and chorus sounds instead of getting the actually pedals. So, if you are looking for a flanger, I recommend the BF-3.

BF-3

By Sean Boyle

from O'Fallon, IL

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

Nice flanger, thicker and much deeper flanging than i thought it would have. Again, I am not an expert, I haven't been playing all that long, but before I got it, I heard almost nothing but positive reviews about it. So far, all the songs with flanging that I've been trying to learn to play, this baby gets that sound for me, and it's easy to use, too. Nice tone, I've been playing around with it for awhile now, and so far everything I've expected or needed from a flanger, this BOSS BF-3 gets it right on the mark. Definitely check it out or borrow one if nothing else, I'm really pleased with mine. If I ever make it into a recording studio, this baby is most definitely going to be on my pedalboard.

Flange me to the 70s....and back again!

By Thomas Semioli

from New York, NY

Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

As a long time bassist who is an avowed anti-techie, this pedal is perfect: easy to operate, durable, nice range of sounds, compact, and absolutely no hiss or static akin to my first Flanger back when Jimmy Carter was President. I highly recommend this pedal - and all Boss pedals -to enhance your ensemble playing and soloing. Sounds equally stunning on my Music Man Stingray 5-string's low B and trusty mid-70s Fender P. If you dig such bass greats of yore such as Mars Cowling,Marvin Isley,Herbie Flowers, Glenn Hughes, Roger Glover, Geezer Butler, John Paul Jones, John Deacon, and Tom Hamilton to name a few - this pedal excels!

The purple flanger for thick stereo flanging

      By Fuzzball

      from Ida, MI

      Comments about Boss BF-3 Flanger:

This pedal is great if you want to use thick stereo flanging. If you love that swirling sound this may be what you desire. This unit is built Boss tough so it should handle the abuse of the road. Be cautions this is a one trick pony and it is a bit expensive, but if you want a great flanger this is definitely a pedal to consider.
