This pedal is great for blues and classic rock hence the name Boss Blues Driver. This pedal works realy well for pushing an already overdriven amp off the edge or for boosting your amp as is. It gives a very good SRV tone and also many other artists that you can emulate. The pedal is also built like a tank, I doubt it will ever break from a heavy stomp or even a fall. So if you want a great pedal thats great for blues get the BOSS Blues Driver.

It's a good pedal - some will find it "great." But I think you can do better for less.
Pretty standard. Lack of tonal options limits this one quite a bit for me. Like most pedals with just a "tone" knob, it will sound good with certain amps/guitars, and not so good with others.
I'm not exactly with the consensus on this one. I figure there must be others like me out there, so I'll pass along my experience... The BD-2 does not sound "smooth" to my ears at all, though it's often described as such. I find it blistering, actually. Pretty brittle. Harsh, ice-picky, fizzy (pick your adjective)... I can't seem to get the tone back far enough to lessen that quality until it's back so far that the whole sound turns to mush (if that makes any sense?). Add to that some major compression - which prevents string separation and limits the pedal to being more useful for leads and chunky riffs - which is fine if that's what you need... but if you play rhythm and need chord clarity, you may want to check out the BOSS OD-3 instead. Great at low gain and much more rhythm-favoring compression and tone. So many people never give that circuit a shot.
It's popular now, pretty much an industry standard. The price has been raised and, in my opinion, it's no longer such a great value. Especially with how limited the eq options are.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This pedal is awesome. I play a Les Paul through a Vox AC15. I had been using another pedal for a clean boost, but wanted something that sounded more overdriven. The Blues Driver fits the bill! It is really simple with just three knobs, but I can dial in just the right amount of crunch. It has a nice low-end sound which pairs well with the Top Boost channel on my Vox.

Used it with Les Pauls and teles through the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. It's buzzy and thin sounding. I could not get a useful sound out of it and took it back and went with Ibanez Turbo Tube Screamer.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

As stated in the title this is not my most used pedal, however I wouldn't want to be without it. This pedal serves a certain nitch in my selection of effect. Depending on where things are dialed in on the Tone and Gain, it has a wide range. I use this pedal to add a little bit of a blues kick to some quieter solo work, pentatonic scales sound great through this pedal. Give it a try first this isn't the pedal for everyone, most people will be fine with an overdrive pedal or the Boss Super Overdrive pedal, which when engaged with this pedal does have a great Tone in and of itself. Give it a shot, I like it and have use for it but dont want people to waste the money if they are not going to fit it into their sound.

I had a Ibenez TS9 Tube Screamer but it had to much med freqs. Not just the sound I wanted. This pedal filled the bill. Has the bluesy sound I was looking for. Built great like all Boss pedals. Love it!

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I'm a relative beginner, I'm just starting to collect basic pedals... Pedals change EVERYTHNG... I just picked Boss because I know they have been around forever and a day so they must be pretty good. Like I said, I'm just learning, so I think it's amazing what sound shaping is all about. The money spent on the basic pedals makes the money spent on everything else well worth all of the money spent... Bottom line... This thing rocks...

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

It is a shame that the various years/models of Tube Screamers get all the glory when the Boss Blues Driver is actually superior (in my opinion). The BD has a wider frequency range than the boxey-sounding TS, and it has quite a bit more hair when you put full gain to it. It also delivers a great not-quite-clean bite with the gain down and the tone turned up a bit. The electronics are responsive to changes in your guitar's volume/tone settings making it a nice tone shaper whether you set it with less or more gain.
This thing is versatile, too. It can be subtle, or it can really scream. It can be creamy, or it can really bite. You just can't go wrong with the Blues Driver for achieving a great classic rock, blues, or even country tone that makes your guitar come alive.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

There's a reason this is such an industry standard pedal, and its name should give it away. This pedal delivers versatile overdrive perfect for blues. It's very expressive and responsive, especially through a good tube amp. The blues driver can cover the whole spectrum from mellow, heartfelt, almost- clean tones to a true Texas grit. I do a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer style playing, and this complements a stratocaster excellently.. and it's downright dangerous with my ES-335 through it. The only thing I don't like is that there's a tone control, but that's my own pet peeve and most people like having it. Bottom line- if you need an overdrive that can deliver a quality breakup at all levels and intensity, this is it.
