This pedal is great for blues and classic rock hence the name Boss Blues Driver. This pedal works realy well for pushing an already overdriven amp off the edge or for boosting your amp as is. It gives a very good SRV tone and also many other artists that you can emulate. The pedal is also built like a tank, I doubt it will ever break from a heavy stomp or even a fall. So if you want a great pedal thats great for blues get the BOSS Blues Driver.

Used it with Les Pauls and teles through the 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. It's buzzy and thin sounding. I could not get a useful sound out of it and took it back and went with Ibanez Turbo Tube Screamer.

Most versatile pedal from Boss!!!

By Violet Wild on MySpace

from Tempe, AZ

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This is by far the best pedal in the Boss series! Just enough crunch without going overboard. Turn down the gain and rock the Blues!! Great value and a great addition to your rig. In reality this pedal and a wah and thats all you'll need.

Decent basic overdrive

By hbucker

from Highlands Ranch, CO

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I use the Blues Driver to slightly break up my clean channel. As you would suspect it does an excellent Blues tone. But it will distort much more than you might expect. It sounds better with single coils than with humbuckers but it doesn't sound bad with anything. What I like about it is that it has more low end than many other distortion/overdrive pedals. This makes it seem warmer and larger to me. Honestly, I've not found a pedal that gives me a perfect overdrive. But this is the best one I've found for the needs that I have in a price range I can afford. It seems like these pedals are always so subjective. One man's Holy Grail is another man's garbage. But the name on it pretty much describes what it does well. And I would say it does that quite well.

Right on the money.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

In an ocean of pedals out there , this one is an oasis. Clean crackle or fuzzy smooth , this pedal does it . Walkin' the blues American or British Import style you got it right here . Just add your favorite "Wah" pedal and they go like milk and cookies.

Shaw!

By ramon

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver - This is Boss' version of the Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer. I'd say Boss is pretty close to giving Ibanez a run for their money depending on the guitar you're using. For nailing that time-honored Strato / Tube Screamer sound, the BD-2 doesn't quite measure up. At lower settings the Strat / Blues Driver combo sounded very warm and tube-like but crunchier settings brought out a sterile transistorized sounding fizziness. Where the Blues Driver really holds its' own is when used with humbucker guitars like Gibson SGs, Les Pauls, or ES-335s. In the humbucking world, the BD-2 impressed us the most with a valvey, open sound and a capacity for wider tone and drive settings. If your looking for a mild overdrive that gives you that amazing tweed sound, this is a great stomper, just make sure your guitar is loaded with humbuckers.

Wish I bought this sooner.

By Blue Aye

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Perfect tone and crunch for an overdrive pedal. Perfect for not just the blues but any other music you play. I prefer this pedal over any other overdrive pedals I've used in the past. Buy a Phase Shifter with it, there are a lot of fun things you can do. This is worth every penny.

Blues Driver

By Steve

from NJ

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I had a Blues Driver pedal a few years ago... the only Boss distortion or OD pedal that I was actually very impressed with. The BD-2 has a great warm tone to it, works fine alone on the clean channel and just as good as an OD. Provides a nice fat tone when used with a tube amp. A friend of mine, who happens to be the current rhythm guitarist for an amazing musician (did somebody say Vai?), turned me onto a Keeley modded BD-2... you're search is truly over once you've tried the Keeley mod. Great pedal by Boss, and they last forever. I used to use an old Boss Super Overdrive that went through a lot, somehow even got burnt one night, still worked perfectly though.

Excellent product

By J.R.

from Forest Hill, Maryland

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

The product was payed for in the store, because the store had none in stock. After I payed I noticed, the display was marked as $84.99 and when the employee had me pay on the order on line he set up I payed $89.99. I didnt realize it until I had left. Oh well, either way it arrived at my house within a few days and delivers all that was expected. I use it primarily to play rhythm type blues on my tele and to drive home the lead notes on my strat. It definitely has more stuff than a TS-9 blues screamer. dont get me wrong I still love the tube screamer, but for Gary Moore, Walter Troutand Albert Cummings over the top screamig stuff this Blues Driver is fantastic.

Transparent OD

By don't_go_on_me

from Mankato, MN

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

The Boss BD-2 is one of the better values on the overdrive stompbox market. Simple to use with Level, Tone, and Gain knobs. Pretty straightforward. When talking tone, think transparent. The BD-2 has a stellar range anywhere from a clean boost to a dirty crunch. At the moment, the BD-2 is being used as a slightly overdriven boost on my pedalboard. That being said, I would have no problem running it by itself as my main overdrive. Dependability? It's built like a tank...it's a Boss after all!

Tube Screamer Classic look out!

By Beatle mutation

from Oshkosh Wi

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

When Boss came out with this pedal I was rather skeptical of its name. For starters when anyone talks about distortion/overdrive pedals, Boss usually doesnt come stumbling out of anyones mouth as a first, second or third choice. This pedal changes that. Owning a Fender Twin, I have had the hardest time finding that happy medium to bring out a rougher tone from my Twin without sounding un-natural. This pedal does just that. Level setting at 1/4,tone setting at 11:00 and the gain cranked all the way, and my amp volume at three with the treb, mid, bass set alittle past 7, this pedal made my rather pedestrian Twin sound very gutty indeed. The kind of crunch and sustain I was only getting 2/3s of the way there with my Ibanez Tube Screamer Classic. Cant wait to use it at our next gig.

Review of BD-2

By RJ

from Dallas, Texas

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I've owned an SD-1 (super overdrive) for 20 years and I wanted to try something new. The BD-2 pedal has some OK tones at low gain settings, but it sounds a little too compressed and fuzzy and I'm returning it. The SD-1 allows much more of your playing style to come through the amp, as well as the guitar's natural tone. The BD-2's level and gain controls were also not as functional - past 12 o'clock and the pedal got really loud or the gain was too saturated.

single coils and tube amp needed

By edward sayers

from youngstown ohio

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

ive had this pedal for over three years and played a ibanez rg guitar with tone zone bridge and air norton in the neck through a fender blues deluxe reissue 40 watt tube amp sound good but heavier distortion than i wanted and it sounded thinner with gain set lower and level up. then i just bought the fender standered 2011 mexican made 3 single coils and what a difference with this pedal sounds so warm and natural as good as the amps distortion total blues in a box....sounds much better with single coils but still sounds good with humbuckers... also blends well with other pedals...

The Coolest Pedal Ever To Exist

By Guitarsurfercody

from Port Aransas, Tx

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Boss really hit it out of the park on this one! The Blues driver is perfect for country, rock, surf, metal, and of course blues. The blues driver is the only distortion you'll ever need. I played through all the cheap distortion that guitarcenter had. This is the only distorion for less than $100 that did anything for me. This, a fender tube amp, and a crybaby are the only things you need tho really have the blues drivin'. The only problem I see is that the effect is on or off you can't alter the intensity while playing, but that is a minor issue. Overall I would tell anyone to go but this pedal asap.

Great tube sound.

By DaYooper

from Christmas, MI

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Want to get that classic Tube amp sound without shilling out a grand for the real thing? This is it! I fell in love with the tone the BD-2 puts out the first time I plugged my Les paul in to it. I was running it through a modern epiphone 35w amp and the sound was tremendous. I really can't wait to get my hands on one of my very own. This will be a pedal that forever stays in my effects chain.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This Pedal is completely versatile, good for any kind of music. However if you are looking for a heavy metal distortion pedal this is not it, but it's good for blues or Progressive, Gospel, anything.Perfect amounts of tone and just enough ditortion to get your point across. Excellent for the price, a must have in your chain of pedals.

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver

By pols080596

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Let me tell you, this pedal is great. I got it my past birthday and on that day i started playing it with my step dad's Fender Telecaster and it was great. Back then i had only been playing for a month or so and now I'm still going strong thanks to this pedal. [for metal-esque distortion i would recommend the distortion on your amp if available but for Jimi Hendrix and even Led Zepplin stuff this is a great pedal.]

Great Blues Pedal

By Payton Piglia

from New Orleans, LA

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I have been using this pedal for over a month. I played this on my cheap first act amplifier and after I turn the pedal on and start playing it sounds like a Marshall JCM800 Amp Head. I would recommend just playing this all by itself and no other Distortion/OverDrive pedal because it ruins the sound and it gets to fuzzy.

fine blues overdrive

By AbcdefGhIjklmnopqRsTUvwxyz

from Watertown

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I just purchased this pedal a few days ago, and so far I have really enjoyed playing with this thing. It is the perfect peadal if you're lookin for that sweet old bluesy sound, the tube amp sound. This pedal allows for some decent distortion, the best from a pedal like this, in this price range, overall is just ridiculusly fun to play.
