This pedal is great for blues and classic rock hence the name Boss Blues Driver. This pedal works realy well for pushing an already overdriven amp off the edge or for boosting your amp as is. It gives a very good SRV tone and also many other artists that you can emulate. The pedal is also built like a tank, I doubt it will ever break from a heavy stomp or even a fall. So if you want a great pedal thats great for blues get the BOSS Blues Driver.

No electrician here, and I've only owned this thing about one week, but I can't get decent volume from the amp without this unit turned up at a distortion level that is too high. I am very disappointed with the performance of this unit, as this is the first unit I've tried to add to the chain. Sounds like the amp is turned off when the level and gain are set at less than 12 o'clock. I'll probably be returning this and just getting a straight compressor since it seems fairly useless for playing blues that do not sound like heavy metal at a volume that outperforms the string's volume level with everything turned off. I'm not into playing acoustic with an electric guitar. And the compressor won't be made by Boss, given my negative experience using a BD-2.

Boss BD2 Drives My Blues Sound

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

Buying the BD2 is one of the best decisions I've ever made! For only $99, this thing does a great job. I started playing guitar circa 1973. Adding the BD2 after my DigiTech RP250, but before my SansAmp GT2 adds the right amount of bluesy tube tone. I have the volume at max, tone just past 12 o'clock, and the drive off. This adds just enough grit for my taste. In the past few years, I've performed across the country from DC to CA and I gig in Nashville every month.

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver sings the blues

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This pedal really sings the blues. It is one of the most used overdrive pedals out there and with good reason. Just go to YouTube and there are countless demos of this great pedal showing its capabilities and versatility. It is perfect for the bluesy sound which blues players seek out and love. Since I perform and travel with my equipment regularly I decided I wanted a backup BD-2 but didn't necessarily need a new one and certainly was looking for a bargain. I found a used one online from Guitar Center for only $49.00 The photo made it look a bit rough and had been heavily gigged but I wasn't deterred, I just needed a backup that might never even get used. When it arrived I was pleased to find the box and original docs were included, and the pedal looked as if it was barely used and even looked almost new. Best of all the pedal works flawlessly. There are no scratching sounds when turning the knobs, and no static when played, nor any volume drops. Perfect! Thank you Guitar Center.

nice sound, adds some flavor without overly distorting original sound

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I like the sound from the BD-2. Its certainly much different than the Boss BD-1 and not like the Tube Screamer either. I think it does add some nice tone to the sound without discoloring it too much. I still can't seem to quite get the real bluesy sound I would like so still working on that part.

    Gets the job done

    By

    from Princeton, New Jersey

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I bought this pedal to supplement my DS-1. I was playing a Modern Player Jaguar through a Fender Frontman and had sold some pedals, so I only had an EHX Memory Boy and a Boss DS-1. The DS-1 is ok, but it is so thin sounding alone. Anyway, The BD-2 was great. It made my solid state amp sound great. It had soft and subtle cleans with some crazy distortion on the higher settings. I eventually bought a Vox ac30c2. Playing the BD-2 over an already cooked amp sounds really lame. The distortion on the pedal thins out the nice tubey sound of the amp. When I put this pedal on with the amp set to clean, it does it's job well. I mostly use it on higher gain settings with the tone knob at about 2 o' clock with the amp set to clean for some Mogwai-ish fuzzy-distortion sounds. It does that great. It also stacks with the DS-1 really well. It still sounds thin, but on the clean channel it is bearable. An issue I have with it is that it is noisy. My Jaguar has p90s, so some noise is expected, but this thing feedbacks like crazy. I use feedback a lot, but sometimes I don't want it around. Other than the feedback and the thin sound (which is more obvious when the amp is overdriven), this pedal does a really good job. It is much better for a solid state setup than for a tube amp, but whatever. It is a little more expensive than it should be too. Whatever. It get's the job done.

    Good high gain Overdrive, but...

    By

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This pedal works very well but only in one mode, and thats in full maximum gain. Ive found turning down the gain anywhere before one oclock the drive and color quickly diminish. At full gain this is a great solo distortion, and i use it for hi gain chords as well.

    Boss BD-2 = Great Addition

    By

    from Denver, Co

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I bought this used as my first pedal to add some grit to my strat. I've played it in front of solid state amps, and recently upgraded to a tube amp, and this thing is great in front of any amp to give you a natural overdriven amp tone. Flat EQ response, natural note decay and a big range on the gain knob are my favorite features. I also have a SD-1 Super Overdrive, and if I had to pick one it would be the BD-2. I use the SD-1 as a lead boost behind the BD-2, which is a great match. But stand alone, the SD-1 is too midrangy for my taste, and also is a bit too compressed for chords. The Blues Driver is indeed a classic overdriven tube sound, because i've pushed my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe to saturation, and it sounds just like the blues driver. Except with the BD-2, you don't need earplugs to stand in front of your amp.

single coils and tube amp needed

    By

    from youngstown ohio

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

ive had this pedal for over three years and played a ibanez rg guitar with tone zone bridge and air norton in the neck through a fender blues deluxe reissue 40 watt tube amp sound good but heavier distortion than i wanted and it sounded thinner with gain set lower and level up. then i just bought the fender standered 2011 mexican made 3 single coils and what a difference with this pedal sounds so warm and natural as good as the amps distortion total blues in a box....sounds much better with single coils but still sounds good with humbuckers... also blends well with other pedals...
