  • Great tool

As reviewed by TheJimmer on 10/24/2006

The boss rc-20xl loop station is an amazing tool for any musician. I bought this pedal to do some loops and entertain myself, but what I found was that it was the best practice tool I've ever owned. Anytime I need to fingure out a new lead to play for a song I just strum in the chords on a loop and get practicing. I get my lead figured out in like 5 minutes, when it might have taken me 2 hours practicing with the band. It's very easy to use once you figure it out, and it even cuts your loops to the right length if you don't have great foot coordination. Major props to Boss...

  • Good Looper. Song writing tool. NOT for live playing

As reviewed by Charles on 4/25/2011

Reverse, reverse, reverse I spend too much time setting volume levels! Pay the extra cash for the new one with USB and two track! If you write music, This is a great song writing tool. As for live; its tricky. I think you need something with multiple tracks. But Tap tempo, is key! or no tempo, either way get your loop right. 2/4; 3/4; 8/4 timing, what ever you need. Its flexible. The drum beats are a metronome, nothing fancy, but all I need. Reverse feature is so nice. learn to play your basic chords in your song backwards, and add some nice background ambiance. Reverse isn't just for solos my friends! Down side is the memory. I fill mine up daily! but, Its not mix ready anyway, so I don't mind clearing it out. But it would be nice to have extra space, if you have a verse, chorus, bridge, solo, verse 2; song you need 5 blank memory banks, which almost half of the space. If you were gonna play live with that. I hope you: A. only play two songs B. have extremely repetitive songs.

  • Not Just For Guitar

As reviewed by Jazzvln on 9/20/2006

I bought the Boss Loop Station about a year ago. I almost didn't buy it, because it was a little difficult to figure out( at first). I'm an alternative violinist. I have my recording studio at home, and needed something to allow me to play a back up line over and over again, without the monotony. After looking at reviews of other products I went into the store and tried it out. It took the salesman and me a few minutes to figure it out, but once we did everything seemed to click. When I got it home I played around with it for hours. I was instantly in love with it. The sound was crisp. The response was fast. I only have a few complaints. The first is battery life. As it got older the batteries seemed to wear out a lot faster. In the last few months I've had to change the batteries five times. I recommend getting the adaptor when you're just at home and save the batteries for gigs. The second complaint I have is the lack of multiple uses. By this I mean you can' program a set lick into it, and use another lick on top of it with out using the overdub. While this is useful in most cases, it becomes difficult for live shows when you want to program a serious of openers or closers to perform at certain intervals. All overdubbing allows is part playing( one sound over another). Since I got mine Boss has come out with a newer version. I haven't played with it yet, but I believe this problem is resolved with more channels and more pedals. If I only knew they were going to do this I would have waited. So to recap: Play back is great Battery life is not so great Ease of use is good Mutliple tracks is non existent I would opt for the newer, larger version of the Loop Station.
