Just What I Needed!
I love this pedal. I have personally tried a huge number of overdrives, from very inexpensive to some of the best out there. I have tested out models made by Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Bixonic, Digitech, and Boss. The list goes on and on. Out of all of these pedals, I have found that the OD-3 is the best pedal for the price. In my opinion, this pedal outperforms even some of the more expensive, ?boutique? effects out there.
I play a 1980?s era Fender Telecaster and I have always struggled to get just the right sound out of it. I love the single coil jangle and ring, but I could never find the right distortion sound for it. Fuzz boxes sounded muddy and modern distortion boxes sounded too high and nasal. I found that a combination of a few effects and my old Fender Princeton reverb amp gave a great sound, but I was unable to capture the sound that I wanted when running direct through a sound system. Thus began my search for the perfect overdrive pedal. After several months and many, MANY guitar shops, I found the OD-3.
The controls are simple ? tone, level, and gain. The pedal gives a nice, warm overdriven sound and makes my Tele sound incredibly full. I run this pedal along with a Fulltone Ultimate Octave pedal (with the distortion rolled almost back to zero) and an EQ and I can get ridiculous sustain with beautiful, warm distortion. The OD-3 is also very transparent in its reproduction of my playing style and technique, which is incredibly important to me. I play a mix of blues, rock, and jazz, and I am able to get pretty much any overdrive sound that I want from slightly dirty to heavy crunch.
If you are looking for an overdrive and have a less than astronomical budget, you REALLY need to check out the OD-3.

Best Boss Drive Pedal!
I've used pretty much every drive pedal that Boss makes, and hands down the best is the OD-3. For some reason, it doesn't get the same attention as the other pedals, but this is the one Boss pedal I always come back to. The drive is very natural sounding, like an amp just getting cranked up. There's a wide range of gain here and the pedal retains very good note clarity as the gain increases. This is the one drive pedal you need.

Sounds Huge!!!
The amazing OD-3 BOSS pedal have impressed me...Versatile, Strong, Produces rich and worm sounds and can be used as a booster...! |It works properly for Blues to Rock ?n? roll and gets very dirty when used with a saturated amp! It has a great tone range and a strong overdrive sound...! It?s the solution for your set! A great overdrive I would definitely buy it again...

Great tube-y feel!
I received the OD-3 as part of a birthday gift along with some other gear, 12 years ago. And ever since then, my pedalboard has undergone several changes - but this is one pedal that will NEVER, EVER be taken out. It has such a great gritty bite to it without being too harsh. I usually have the drive setting anywhere between 11 to 1 o'clock for some bite to my tone. I also have a Fulltone DP-1 that I use for an extreme distortion and a Marshall Jackhammer as an alternate distortion & volume boost. But the OD-3 works great for getting some drive, when clean is just "too clean." Although anything beyond 1-2 o'clock on the drive knob doesn't amount to more drive but rather more volume and "bigness" to the sound. It is also very reactive to your amp settings, so if you like a lot of treble like I do, you'll get a brighter sound. If I ever had to choose between the 3 drive pedals I own, I would stick with the OD-3 because it would work better in any musical situation I'm in. I love that little yellow box!!!

Boss Does Good
I am extreamly happy with this pedal. I needed somethign that was strong than my blues jr overdrive but with alot of variety as well. The tone knob on the OD-3 is offers quite a range of souds from a smoothe bass tone to a more pronouced high end. Does just what an OD pedal should do.

Perfect
This pedal is just what I needed to complete my sound. I play a Les Paul out of a Marshall half stack and use the tube amp's gain as my main sound. I kick this pedal and it just screams. I love this pedal.

Great Overdrive Pedal
The Boss Overdrive-3 is the best overdrive pedal that I have ever used with my 72'Telecaster. When I jam with it I can turn the overdrive down low for playing rhythm or turn it up for lead guitar. Overall this is definitely a great guitar pedal.
