Overview

The Bose L1 Compact system combines conventional PA and monitors into one sleek unit. Positioned behind or to the side of a performer, DJ or presenter, it delivers wide, even sound coverage throughout the stage area and audience, even off to the extreme sides. It's Bose's smallest, lightest, easiest-to-set-up L1 system, weighing just 29 lb.

The L1 Compact system's slim loudspeaker distributes sound clearly and evenly throughout the room, thanks to Bose Spatial Dispersion technology. The speaker's unusual vertical shape makes it distinctly different from conventional PA speakers•and has a very positive effect on sound coverage. Even audience and band members off to the extreme sides hear the same clear, tonally balanced sound as those in front.

The L1 Compact loudspeaker array is smaller than those in L1 Model I and II systems, but it produces comparable horizontal sound coverage. L1 Model I and Model II loudspeakers project sound further with less dropoff of volume than the L1 Compact array.

With the L1 Compact system, you don't have to carry a separate amplifier, mixer or bass cabinet: They're already built in. The system's power stand includes an integrated bass speaker and amplifier, plus a built-in mixer providing a total of four inputs and two outputs.

Channel 1 is a microphone input with a customized ToneMatch preset for a handheld dynamic microphone. The preset automatically optimizes a handheld microphone's tone when used with the L1 Compact system. Channel 2 accepts up to three inputs at once, including a guitar, keyboard or other instrument, DJ mixer, MP3 player, laptop or projector. It features a customized ToneMatch preset to optimize the sound of an acoustic guitar.

I do gospel singer songwriter venues for churches and small restaurants and was looking for a easier system than have to pull a music trailer and deal with the hassles of backing and parking a full load of PA equipment.
I went to a restaurant of about 400 people where the singer was using one of the bigger L1 series systems for tracks and vocals and was impressed of the clearness and a natural louder sound than the heft of a powered pa so I started to explore the Bose line and looked at the L1 Compact and at all the reviews, that prompted me to go to my local guitar center and try one they had set up on display and see how it would sound with an acoustic and vocal and wow I was impressed after doing a couple songs I had gathered a few spectators and I asked their opinion on sound clarity and received great reviews so I purchased one. after I got it home and read all the instructions I had it unpacked and set up to use in 5min. once unpacked you can set this up in less than a min and to carry it is actually a 1 trip carry. I suggest adding a small mixer as I added the Mackie mix 8 (74.00) and that gave me a whole new system where you can add multiple instruments and mikes and able to give a better mike mix. I sat this system up in my church of 150 people and it would perform for 300 easily don't let the size or other reviews tell you differently the best thing is buy it and try it you have 45 days to return it to guitar center for a refund if it doesn't fit you needs.
I have ran 4 wireless mics, 2 guitars and a keyboard and steel guitar and a bass all thru this system and can work a 40x80 room with 125 people with no problems. people cant believe that all that sound comes from 5 small speakers and the small sub.
I plan to purchase one more to be able to have a bigger reach and volume for outdoors or bigger venues and to compete with a drummer. all in all I find no where that there are any disadvantage to owning one it is truly Bose at a fair price.

I expected more from Bose but found the L1 lacking. It needs at least a reverb pot on both channels. Easy to put together and lite but ended up brining it back and got the HBO EON..... It's bigger but better in my opinion.... assembly is easy but tower sections are tight... so go easy.

Sensational For an Acoustic Act

By Doug Bell

from Wasington, DC

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I've used my L1 Compact system now for about two years, averaging about 40 gigs a year. I'm a solo acoustic guitar/singer act performing at wineries both indoors and outdoors for roughly 40 people. I use a Tonematch T1 with the Compact system and a really good Shure mike. I routinely get compliments on how great the Bose L1 Compact system sounds. It has more than enough power for these types of venues and it always sounds crystal clear. With as many times as I've moved it over the past two years I'd say the durability is top notch, provided you use some very reasonable care. I was using a Bose L1 Classic system that I purchased around six years ago. This system obviously has a LOT more power and punch ... but ... if you're an older guy like me the weight and lifting involved in moving the larger Bose system are a big consideration. I perform in venues that don't accommodate a dolly/cart or require a bit of a hike to get where I'm performing. I was starting to have back and shoulder problems from moving the larger Bose system. The Compact is SUPER PORTABLE and does exactly what I need it to in a package I can easily move by myself over a distance. I've also used it in a bar with perhaps 75 noisy patrons and it worked *just fine*. I highly recommended for a solo performer. For me, having a light-weight PA that sounds fantastic and can extend the years I can perform by lightening my load is worth every dime.

GREAT FOR KEYBOARDS AT SMALLER VENUES

      By Bernard Battle

      from San Diego, CA

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

My first concern about the BOSE L1 compact was...would it be able to handle the full sounds & low end of a keyboard. All of the advertisement I've ever seen for the BOSE Compact L1 always was geared towards vocalist & acoustic guitars...thus my concern. I already owned the Bose L1 but this unit would take up too much space on some of the smaller stages I would have to share with other musicians from time to time. The BOSE Compact L1 works perfectly in these types of situations using minimal space on stage while providing the full and quality sound I demand for my keyboard.

      Awesome sound

      By JAMES

      from Maryland

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

Bose is amazing. I was very skeptical, even after talking to a Bose sales rep about the amount of bass this little sub could handle. We use this in our karaoke room. It's truly amazing. We only have one set in a corner. From pop to hardcore rap with serious bass, this system sounds awesome. I'd totally recommend it. We do have the Tone Match mixer which does not attached to the setup (unlike the bigger models) so ours simple sits on a bookshelf next to the speakers. There is a RCA line output for connecting a power sub if you wanted more punch. But you don't really need it. You'll be amazed at the sound that comes out of it.

Amazing sound and saves our backs

      By LaDonna

      from Barberton, OH

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

As a gospel group, young at heart but getting up in years, we LOVE the Bose L1 compact system! We sing in mostly smaller churches and we have not had ANY volume problems. We hook up a small mixer board into the L1 compact to run three mics and a laptop for song tracks. We put the speaker behind us as a moniter AND main sound, no feedback problems so this system is all we need. With 180 degree sound coming out of the speaker, my husband, who runs our sound, can sit up on the podium with us and he will hear exactly what everyone else is hearing. Most people are just blown away by the quality of sound that the L1 Compact produces.Even in some of the larger places that we have sang at, we still have not had to turn up the system very much.We used to haul a trailer behind our van to carry our sound equipment. Now the Bose L1 compact system takes up a corner in the back of the van or a car.Thank you, Bose, for making this amazing little sound system!!

      Overpriced? Yes. But still great.

      By Justin Goodman

      from Arlington, VA

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

This is not for you if you're looking for the absolute most bang for your buck in terms of output. It's also not for you if you must have complete control over your sound and want to EQ everything yourself. If you're looking for the most output possible for ~$1k, then you should get a K12 on a tripod and call it a day. Bose would probably tell you the same thing. However, I find myself using this little system very often for presenter-style set ups and wedding ceremonies because of how ridiculously quickly it sets up and how sleek it looks. The super light weight is another plus as I don't need a wheeling cart.

      Got it figured out...

      By Bob Conner

      from Pampa, Texas

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I used it for an informal jam session last night. It was approximately an 80x50 ft room. The sound was unbelievable. I used a Mackie FXpro board. We had 2 Alesis mics, 3 guitars, and a fiddle. We had WAY more volume than we needed. A room twice that size would have been no problem. I could hear every voice and every instrument. The sound was very sharp and crisp. One guy that I always have trouble hearing came through very crisp and clear. I love it and recommend it highly...

Very portable with a good sound

      By DEBORAH ERENY

      from texas city

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I've had mine for about 8 months now. I've learned that to get the best sound from a mixer you need to plug in the mains from the mixer into the RCA jacks of the BOSE. This unit is so easy to use, transport and setup. Very light. It sounds incredibly good, especially considering the size and weight. I will say this does not sound like a PA system though. With a PA system you get much more of a boom/thump/deep bass sound this sound is more crystal clear like a very high end stereo might sound. you don't have any problems hearing the bass but its more of a clear/stereo bass then a PA system bass sound. This unit is incredibly clear and clean, sound transports well through out the venues I've used it; a large cafeteria and home living room duets. The sound dows disperse well. You can hear it just as clear anywhere in the room you are playing. I play with another guitarists and we each have one setup beside up and can hear one another and our selves perfectly. This unit will surprise you with the sound it puts out. We've played for groups of 50+- and haven't had any problems being heard in the back without being so loud to the people that are closer to us. I have tripped over the rca to TS cable and broke the RCA jack inserts inside the BOSE. My friends at Guitar Center were the only ones able to figure out a simple solution, getting them out in 5 minutes. For anyone else having this problem, they used a small, self tapping screw and got it right out. I had taken it to Guitar Center, they tried to no avail, I had called Bose who wanted to charge quite a bit to drive it to Houston to a Bose Service shop.

      Great 2 ways

      By DAVID BRANIGAN

      from Palos park, Illinois

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I have used this straight with a mike in the mike channel and an electric guitar in the guitar channel. Sounds great. I now plug the mike and guitar into a marshall amp made for an acoustic act then run the output from the marshall into the guitar channel of the BOSE. This way I can add reverb and/or chorus to the voice and guitar separately . I then use the Marshall much like a monitor with the BOSE pointed at the audience. I can also play music during my breaks by routing the earphone output of a computer into the BOSE. There are so many ways to use this it is amazing. AND it only weighs 25 pounds. No big speakers to lug around.

        By ROBERT WALLACE

        from Farmington, Utah

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

Simply put, it is great. It sounds wonderful on all of my guitars, James Burton Signature Telecaster, Fender Strat with Lace Sensor pickups (Blue, Silver, and Red), my Gibson CS-356, my Taylor NS74ce, and my Kirk Sand Nylon Electric. I purchased the TC-Helicon R1 pedal for some re-verb for the mic channel, and I use my VD400 Behringerr vintage delay pedal on the guitar channel. I couldn't be happier with the setup and the sound. I strongly recommend the Bose L1 Compact. It is well worth the money to provide a professional and quality sound.

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

Music is not my main job but I do play about 10 to 15 gigs a month. I played so many years with the traditional PA, (mains on stands, floor monitors, separate amps etc.). I got so tired of hauling heavy gear, setting up, tearing down, trying to get decent sound checks done so that I know what I'm hearing on stage is what's coming out front in the mains. As a solo performer this takes a lot of the fun out of performing. Most of my gigs are wineries and small clubs and church performances as well. This system made my life so much easier. I am totally spoiled now. I don't enjoy playing over anyone else's system unless it is a Bose. I have played for audiences up to 200 people and it pulled it off beautifully. I use a small Behringer mixer, a digitech Vocalist live 3 harmonizer, and a Digitech R100 guitar effects pedal. I get a ton of compliments on how great it sounds. I am constantly asked why I am not on America's Got Talent etc. I know that a huge part of that is this system. There are a million performers out there more talented than I, but they are playing through outdated, muddy, inferior systems that don't do them justice. I place the unit a couple feet behind me and to the side a couple of feet and I am assured of getting the exact sound I want the audience to hear. Plenty of musicians looking for gigs but I am turning down at least 4 to 5 requests per month. I think it has a lot to do with the sound I get with the Bose (and the grace of God of course). My son borrowed it for a high school assembly once held in the gym. There were about 600 to 700 kids and the Bose was pushing right at it's upper limits but it did a pretty good job. The sound was crisp, not distorted, and it definitely filled the gym with a better sound then the existing speakers. If someone stole this unit from me I would be out tomorrow morning buying another one. Can't say enough great things about this. Notice how many others are starting to copy with their own "linear array" systems.

I have been singing and playing guitar/bass professionally on a part time basis for longer than I am willing to admit. I used the Bose L1 Compact for the first time at a gig Friday March 25, 2017. I set the volume at around 3, turned the treble and bass halfway up, turned on the tone match switch, played a few chords, then played and sang about 1/2 of a song. The sound was so incredible, I never changed any settings the rest of the night except for turning up the volume when the crowd got larger and louder. It was absolutely the richest and cleanest sound I have ever heard from a PA. The system was lightweight and had the smallest footprint of any unit I have ever used. Well worth the money I paid and more.

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I am delighted with this unit! The sound quality is crisp and projects over a wide spectrum beautifully! I was limited on inputs because my full set up uses 3 acoustic guitars, vocal mic, green bullet harmonica mic, ipod, laptop and a 2nd sm58 mic for banjo, washboard, or additional acoustic guitar so I bought a Mackie Mix 12 FX giving up to 12 inputs of various types, eq, gain, and onboard effects and additional rca ins and outs, and is only around 12" x 12". The Mackie was only 119.00 and together with the L1 - awesome, controlable, sweet audio that can be transported quite easily. If I'm using my minimum setup of 1 guitar and vocals, I grab my guitar & mic, grab the base of the L1 in the other hand, shoulder the very lightweight extensions for for the L1, and I'm good to go. I'm very happy that I made the jump to the L1 Compact System!

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

I Got this second one today which will compliment my first one greatly. I thought i had a great deal last year when i got my first one and loved it. This time was a better deal since Bose did a 15% off on presidents day sale. Thanks Bose and guitar center for a great deal and great product. Now even with lugging two of them wont be to bad and it will save my back a lot.
One sounded so good and now two sound so much better.
It lacks a little bit on the low end (BASS)which is not bad considering it being compact. but having an external output to a powered sub woofer will fix that.
This product is a great all purpose compact PA and i highly recommend it to anyone.
***Note:Highly recommend getting a mixer with this speaker ****

Comments about Bose L1 Compact System:

Only flaw, (actually not a flaw ) I see is the inability to only use one the extenders at a time. If you use the extenders you have to use both. Makes the unit 7 ft tall when both are installed.

Been looking at this item for a while and decided to test it at the store and other speakers. I like the sound clarity of this PA. For me it's not how loud it is but how clear it is and that's what made me decide to purchase this item. It is also convenient to carry it. Tested it at a family gathering and everyone can't believe how clear the sound quality of this compact PA is. I matched this up with a Yamaha MG10XU 10-Channel Mixer with Effects which made it a great combo. Bose never fails me at all . You definitely get what you pay for
