What do you want it for?

I've owned this system for about a week now and I've been "learning" it at home and I've played it out a couple times as well. I bought it solely for use in a solo acoustic cover/original gig scenario. In my opinion, this is far easier to transport than a conventional pa, and sounds fuller than the fishman solo amp. I found the fishman to be very uni-directional and focused on the mid to upper mid range freqs. The L1 compact is easier to set up, has simpler controls, and has better omni-directional dispersion (not a substitute for more power). This system will not kick your face in, and it will empty your wallet. However, the portability and sound quality are well worth the cost and power sacrifice. Don't let the "limited" controls freak you out. Trust me, you want the flattest, most simlple default setting possible. The audience wants you to play, not turn knobs. If you have to have effects, you're better off using a pedal board or other modeling hardware as you'll have more versatility and the interface will be more practical too. Think about it. If you're playing for more than 75 people who are having casual conversations, you'll probably need more power. Maybe the L1 classic would better suit you. But for coffe shops, hole in the wall bars, or restaurant gigs, this is the rig to have. Make sure you get a good mic to take advantage of the L1's amazing sound quality!

limitations

Overall the product sounds great if used with the acoustic and mic inputs. It sounds good with the input coming from a mixer. acoustics and vocal, but it has a very bad sounding low end especially if you are using a backing track with any kind of real bass sounds. You need to use the eq on the mixer and lower the bass alot to get a good sound. If you must hear good low end, you need to add a real sub woofer in the mix. only had the voluum up to 3 when the bad rumble ocurred

Bose L1 Compact System

WOW! I went looking for the traditional 2 speaker w/stands, 2 x 50 ft of speaker cable and a sound board/mixer; all heavy and a pain in the butt to get from here to there...what I walked away with was absolutely outstanding!...Just seconds to set up and take down with crystal clear quality and sound. Could not have made a better choice!

This product is a GREAT product. I needed a sound system that is light weight and easy portable. This is the best product that I have ever been used. I would highly recommmend this product to anyone if they're starting out in the music field of anything.

Perfect for Me!

I went from lugging a P.A. for my vocal and a rather large accoustic amp for my guitar (which was very heavy)to setting up my Bose L1 Compact system and carrying it in 2 lightweight trips. Being a 57 year old singer/songwriter with a heart condition meant always grabbing some young kid to help carry. Not any more! The first weekend I had it, I played a 100' long steel barn and the people heard my lyrics coming in the opposite end. The next day I played an outdoor art gallery event and had the perfect sound for that intimate setting. On the third day, I played an outside party on a windy day and fought the wind for clarity. Okay, two out of three ain't bad! The amazing thing is that I can hear myself as well as my audience can. My songs are original and clarity of lyrics is the most important thing for me as most songs either tell a story or have a punch-line at the end. During the week I keep the whole system under my desk and no one knows that it's there!
