The high-gain sounds of the Ecstasy amp's Red Channel in a compact pedal.

The Ecstasy amplifier was born in 1992, and decades later Bogner is still hand building each amp, one at a time, in Los Angeles, California. The Ecstasy Red pedal captures the mystical Red-Channel tone of this legendary amplifier, famous for its incendiary, higher-gain crunch and lead tones. Using interactive controls to adjust gain and EQ settings, the red pedal delivers a wide range of expressive tones from vintage overdrive to ripping modern high gain. Ideal for aggressive playing styles, the Ecstacy Red pedal boasts the outrageous heavy tones that get Bogner amps into the backlines of rock's most notable players.

Reinhold designed the Ecstasy Red pedal with five discrete Class A gain stages and no op-amps or diode clipping, mirroring the circuitry of the Ecstasy amplifier's Red Channel. This revolutionary approach provides clarity, touch sensitivity and note separation never before achieved in overdrive pedals.

The Ecstasy Red is powered by a standard 9V battery or 9V power supply. Reinhold's advanced circuitry internally elevates the voltage a substantially higher level. This higher voltage provides a greater dynamic range which closely resembles the feel of the Ecstasy amplifier's legendary tube design.

  • Magic

As reviewed by Simon Sydserff on 11/5/2012

It started with a wow on Saturday in the store and it has gotten better every time I play it since. Played it at a gig yesterday, as loud as I could get through a cleanish 1x12 6L6 powered amp. Fabulous crunch at about 10 o'clock and I didn't have to switch it off for the entire set. It cleaned up nicely leaving the notes and chords thick and rich. The gain is huge and razor sharp but neither overwhelming nor mushy. It really does like being played through a loud amp but works at bedroom levels too. If you buy one though my advice is to seek out a hall with a loud clean amp and let it rip. It might not be your taste in gain but if it is it ships with a guaranteed smile factor. I can't AB it with an Ecstasy amp but I don't particularly feel the need to. If it wasn't from Bogner and I had the chance to try it on my own rig I would still have bought it for the sound and feel alone. It really is magic.

  • Overpriced and underwhelming

As reviewed by Paul Mason on 4/24/2013

I was really excited to buy this pedal, but when it arrived, I was so disappointed. The Ecstasy Red has WAY too much compression, totally squashing picking dynamics and expressiveness, like a cheap compression pedal maxed out. No excuse for that - there are so many great pedal makers out there these days (Wampler, Fryette, Alf Hermida, even Fulltone, lots more), with pedals that provide a playing feel and expressiveness almost as good as plugging directly into a fine tube amp, with glorious, raging tone that provide all the "ecstasy" you could want, for less money than these Bogners, some a lot less. After gigging with it a couple of times (through my Egnater Renegade, a very pedal-friendly amp), I found that lack of dynamics made it a challenge to cut through a live mix. Also, the YouTube demos are somewhat misleading about the adjustable boost - there is only a tiny range of adjustment available. I returned my Ecstasy Red after about 3 weeks. Reinhold, we love ya, but you should have spent less time photographing yourself for the ads and more time on the pedal!!
