Spin the visions of distinguished guitarists into gold.

Inspired by the voicing of classic Californian amplifiers, the Bogner Alchemist 40W Amp Head and 2x12 Guitar Speaker takes a modern approach to vintage half stack designs. Rich tones emerge the moment you turn it on, thanks to Reinhold Bogner's sophisticated arrangement of simple circuits, currents, metal, and wood.

Beginning clean and fast, featuring an open top-end and tight bottom-end, the Bogner amp's Channel 1 (Gold), opens gradually to present simmering blues tones that churn like spirits in a cauldron. Advancing toward saturation, Crunch mode turns up the heat adding pick response and increased tonal complexity. Channel 2 (Mercury), achieves critical mass and invokes a white-hot Bogner gain that is creamy, modern, and screaming with sustain. As your sound materializes, give it life and depth with reverb and delay in variable styles and levels. On their own journey, the effects remain separate from the original signal, occupying their own circuit. The result is a stately Bogner Alchemist half stack that delivers rich, living and breathing, fully realized resonance composed entirely of nature, philosophy and maybe a little magic.

  • Bogner Alchemist- Amazing!

As reviewed by Dan on 6/7/2010

So, I was skeptical at first about the Bogner Alchemist. Bogner is known for his high quality boutique amps, and when they announced this mass-produced mode, I had to check it out. I went to my local guitar center, and plugged my axe in. (SD Blackouts similar to EMGs). I hit up the gain channel immediately, started with the EQ in the middle and started to rip. The creamy warm distorted tone I got was mouthwatering. I played with it some more, and the clean channel is fantastic also. It's a footswitchable 2 channel amp, with 2 sounds on each channel. For the clean channel, you can get either crystal clear, or a crunchier clean. On the gain channel, there is a crunchy gain, and a modern hi gain channel. It was between this and a Mesa express. I played each amp over and over and over again, and I just could not reproduce that OUTSTANDING gain tone with the mesa. I bought the amp, and I have had it for almost a year now. I recommend it 100%

  • Bogner Alchemist Head/Cab

As reviewed by Scott on 6/22/2010

I love my Alchemist! I have been on a journey the last few months looking for the perfect amp for my needs and found it. I traded in my B-52 AT212 and went through (bought and returned) several amps before getting this one. I started with the Egnator Tourmaster, Line 6 2x12 hybrid, Mesa Stiletto Ace and finally the Bogner. I mostly play metal but love good cleans as well. The cleans are excellent and the metal is great. The reverb and delay are very good in this amp. What I noticed is somehow they mix the reverb to perfection. My leads have a great reverb sound and the metal chords still sound equally good without having to back off the reverb. Usually, you have to turn off or heavily reduce the reverb when moving to chords. I can play great sounding leads with the reverb alone or kick the delay in and get a really cool sound. The high gain metal sound of this amp is soooo good. Its hard to explain, but the way I explain it is that the gain has such a natural and pure sound. As much as I love metal, I have not found the need to add an overdrive pedal but I"ll probably try one at some point. I love having an amp that truly sounds great without ANY pedals - I've never had that before. ONe item i learned through this process of trying amps in several stores and read hundreds of reviews is TRUST YOUR EARS - period. I actually bought and returned a Mesa Stiletto Ace which was good but no where near sounded as good as the Bogner. I'm waiting to get struck down by the Mesa Gods. Also, this amp sounds GREAT at low volumes.

  • Head is great, cab re-thinking

As reviewed by Eric Demore on 6/7/2010

I bought the Alchemist head and 2x12 extension cabinet to get back into a half stack since I've been playing combos for awhile now. I must say the head puts out some impressive tones from shimmery cleans to real nice crunch using the clean channel. With the crunch switch engaged and Gain around 11 o'clock/noon, using my guitars volume and my OCD, I can literally almost play three sets of 15 songs. Its very versatile and can cover alot of territory. The mercury channel absolutely NEEDS the punch selector engaged in my opinion. I've never switched it off and I'm not sure what usable sounds you're supposed to get with it disengaged. You can get real decent distortion with nice harmonics and touch...but when the gain is up to high (past 3 o'clock), I was getting squealing. I really dont think you need it that high, though. You can certainly hear the signature Bogner drive when using this channel at around 1/2 o'clock. If you want a Marshall, mid range type drive...engage the mid shift switch. I only have one issue with this head/can match. The extension cabinet in my opinion isn't a real good match for the head. It might be good for blues or classic rock, but I think it needs a Vintage 30 instead of the G12H anniversary and the back definitely needs to be closed. Construction of the cab is great and all...but it was a bit dark, muddy and airy. When I plugged into my Marshall 1960A cab, the head came alive. Breathed some fire actually :-) The on board delay effect is OK, but I wont be selling Boss Delay anytime soon. The reverb is real usable. Overall, its a very good buy considering its a full featured head/cab, is built excellent despite being built in China, looks awesome and after, a Bogner.
