Bogner Alchemist Series 212 40W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp - Mint Condition

$1,407.99

Product Information

Alchemist spins the visions of discerning guitarists into gold.

The Bogner Alchemis Series 212 is a guitar combo amp that boasts sparkling, articulate cleans, touch-sensitive leads and a bright and colorful crunch. Alchemist is a modern take on vintage tube amp design. The Alchemist 212 amp owes its remarkable tonality to a 6L6 class-AB power section, a five-12AX7 preamp and premium Celestion speakers. It owes its timeless appeal, though, to classic innovation, modern ingenuity and the entrancing ancient mysticism of alchemy.

The Bogner Alchemist has a 2-channel design, each channel with its own voice and identity. Beginning clean and fast, featuring an open top-end and tight bottom-end, Channel 1 opens gradually to present simmering blues tones that churn like spirits in a cauldron. Advancing toward saturation, Crunch mode turns up the heat, adding the perfect touch of nastiness with added pick response and increased tonal complexity. Channel 2, achieves critical mass, invoking the famous white-hot Bogner gain—creamy, modern and screaming with sustain—offering everything from Brit rock right through to modern metal. Plus, with variable Bright settings, each channel can be customized to match the tone of your guitar and rig.

Featuring a selectable power section, from 40 to 20 watts, the Bogner Alchemist sonority quickly transforms to display a very different kind of magic. When switched to 20 watts, the Alchemist 212 undergoes a complete sonic metamorphosis, changing its harmonic complexity and feel to conjure the essence of the legendary Brown sound.

Reverb and Delay, in variable styles and levels, run in parallel separate from the original signal. The result is a rich, living and breathing, fully realized resonance capable of producing a complete tonal landscape.

Bogner includes a 4-button footswitch with the Alchemist 212 tube combo amp.

Awesome Amp, really worth the buy

I looked at this amp and thought to myself "this thing can't have THAT much power". I was so wrong I plugged in my Schecter and the raw power I got out of the Overdrive channel was insane (on the lowest setting at that) the clean channel gave a really clear tone, but when I set it to "crunchy" it sounded amazingly bluesy. Definitely worth the money! The effects were also amazing, but another overdrive pedal wouldn't hurt if you're an active metal/hardcore player.

Brown Sound in a Box

I have been on the hunt for a decent tube amp. I currently own Fender tube amps so I wanted something different. I tried out lots of amplifiers but the one I liked the most was the mesa boogie express series. Turns out the mesa had issue's which I think were attributed to just that amp not the line. Well the hunt was back on. I seen the Bogner by itself in the corner and just assumed that it was out of my price range, then I noticed the tag. Cool I could afford it,and to boot I got the 2x12 at the 1x12 price. Now about the amp tones This amp is very powerful, it could be deceiving because the build is different, it is a big cabinet but it is slim from front to back only measuring in at about 10-12 inches but the overall cab is big from side to side and height. It took a minute to figure out what all the switches and knobs do, there are alot of tone shaping tools on this amp. I quickly dialed in to me what sounded just like the Brown Sound on the 20 watt side and said you gotta be kidding me, no pedals needed just pure tube tone shredding off my face. I then went over to the clean channel and played for a bit and I acheived in about 1 minute flat a big crystal clear fenderey clean tone but it had it's own flavor, I loved it more. Now that I have had this amp home for a week, I am absolutely in love with it, Some say that using an additional cab will make it just that much bigger but I think the 2x12 holds it's own. I cannot comment on the speakers yet as they have to break in, so far I think they sound unreal, very plexi sounding on gain channel to deluxe reverbish on clean side. There is delay and reverb built into the amp as well and it sounds great, better than any cheap stompbox you can but. There are switches to get different types of delay and reverb as well. The footswitch also has channel switching, a boost and the delay and reverb on it so everything is right at your foot. All in all I haven't had to use my dirt boxes at all with this amp, Just setting a great tone through amp I can roll guitar volume back and go from old zeppelin crunch to in your face alice in chains type of gain. The same goes for the clean you can set the clean to slightly break up or just keep it pristine or you can flip the crunch switch and roll back volume and just have a palette of sounds at the turn of a knob. I played everything from marshall, vox, fender, mesa boogie and some other's and ended up with the Alchemist. For the money I think that you get a very versatile amp capable of gigging mic'd or un mic'd and the array of sounds are endless. Now if your into the heaviest of chugga type metal, yes you will need an additional pedal to push tubes but once you do, the bogner takes over and makes it so smooth and creamy. I have been playing for 20 years and chasing tone for 10 of them and I have yet to see another amp in this price range with all of these options, I'm not going over every switch with you, just read above description on site but trust me you play guitar and love valve tone you will love this amp. First amp also that I will mention that there isn't 1000's of people on a forum asking how to fix this and fix or swap that, the amp alone is bold, solid and stands true to a bogner. Go try one out you will see what I mean. Edit: I forgot to mention you can go in between 20 and 40 watts, huge benefit. The forty watt setting isn't like it's that much louder but the difference in tones are amazing, it's like having 4 amps in one when you start using all the channels and the boost definately helps alot. Just for you guys that do like pedals, it takes them lovely. I have used a route 66 o.d/compression, a Boss bluesdriver and my wah and H20 pedal and all sound amazing, thing is I don't need them anymore that is how good amp sounds to me imo.

Well worth the cash

Wow! This amp is incredibly versatile. You can get crystal clean, simmering overdrive, Tubescreamer-like classic rock distortion and over-the-top hard rock/ metal all with a very responsive EQ w/ extra deep and bright switches to help single coils sound more full or to brighten up dark humbuckers. The reverb sounds great, as does the delay, however there is no tap tempo option for the delay time on the footswitch which is a bummer. The ONLY bummer as far as I'm concerned. At least there's a manual tap tempo on the amp if you're recording. This speaker combination of a greenback and a heritage sounds awesome, and the variac (power) switch gives you even more tone options. I just played an outdoor show on the 20 watt setting (cause I just love it) and I never had to turn up past halfway on either channel. And my drummer is extremely loud, so if you have any doubts about how useful the 20 watt setting would be live, lay them to rest now. It also takes pedals very well thru the front end, but I found the effects loop to be sorta pooish, but maybe I just have to keep playing with it. Great, versatile amp thats affordable with lots of useful effects and tone options, just no footswitch tap tempo for the delay.
