The Bluebird is a large diaphragm cardioid condenser mic (fixed pattern). It comes in a padded wooden box with a screw mount pop filter, and well-constructed shock mount. The powder blue Bluebird has the typical elegant look of a Blue mic, high build quality, and a sound that lives up to the name. On vocals this mic performs beautifully - both sung, and voiceover/spoken word. I have used this mic on several voiceover and music projects (through a Great River preamp) and it performs admirably. The sound is smooth, open, warm, and airy without the pronounced sibilant peak many sub-$1000 condensers exhibit. The low end and mids are clear and warm. The Bluebird is well suited for many tasks, from vocals to acoustic instruments. The manual states it would also be a great choice for sax, flute, clean guitar, violin, etc. I would have to agree. Without a doubt it is one of the best large diaphragm condenser mics in the sub-$1000 category.

I recently bought this mic, and it's amazing. It is SO sensitive, and full of warmth and quality. I am using it to record seperate tracks and mix them, and I record vocals, acoustic guitar, drums, cello, and electric guitar. It works very well with all of those instruments.

Excellent Mic

By T

from Tempe, AZ

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I was deciding between the blue bluebird and the blue baby bottle. psychologically I could not get past the hundred dollar difference and I assumed the blue bottle was worth the increase in price. My assumption was not accurate. Both mics sound great, however, the blue bottle sounds like a lot of mics I have heard before, while the blue bird has a unique tone of its own. The blue bottle is a much "hotter" mic and it tends to break up a lot easier, it kind of has a tube thing going on. The blue bird is a lot more natural and has a true to life sound, in other words its not trying to be anything, it just is, and that is where it works beautifully. I will mention this mic is extremely tight sounding and has low noise, you will be impressed. The bluebird has a lot more clarity and detail than the blue bottle, while the blue bottle has more full and bassy tone. The bluebird is an amazing mic for the money. One thing to remember don't ever use any mic without a channel strip, your quality will go up ten fold. Buy this mic if you are on a budget I tried a ton and this mic sounds like some higher end mics, no joke. I am not sure how they made this mic with a $$$ price tag, it is very impressive. Don't waste time, just buy it.

Bye Bye Blackbird

By Wii Lee M. Buena

from Manila, Philippines

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I'm saying bye bye to my old shure black microphone, Welcome BLUEBIRD !!! This is probably the most spectacular recording mic among the not-so-expensive bracket in the current collection. Having the clear, crisp, clean sound that it produces once you stand right in front of it (nose level). Wether you whisper or scream, the magic happens inside this well-engineered model. The warmth and velvety smooth outcome as I use it with my Mac and Logic 9 is enough to romaticize and energize the moment as you engage yourself in a musical affair. It just sucks out the anxiety in you once you get started in your session, you just don't wanna stop. Going to the Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard can sometimes suck, but not this time, coz it's time and money well spent! I give it 4 stars and two thumbs up !!! Thanks Bluebird !!!

i am in love with this pretty microphone. i have a rock and roll/ metal band and we love to use this microphone. are band name is mom, and we have good music/tunes, but this pretty blue microphone makes our voices sound like the cherping sounds of an ostrage (which is very VERY delightful). Worth Twice the Price

By Paisley Underground

from Houston, TX

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I recently picked up a Bluebird for my home studio. This is quite a little condenser mic, and for the price, in my opinion it's impossible to beat the value. Like all Blue mics, it's appearance is striking and stylish. As soon as you remove it from it's case you can tell that it's solidly built. It comes with a case, shock mount and pop screen. Because of previous problems with the former shock mount, Blue redesigned it such that the mic is threaded around the outside of the cable connection, and screws the shock mount - a fantastic redesign. I use this particular mic exclusively for vocals and it performs with mics that cost multiples of it's price standing on it's own. I run this through a TC Helicon Vocalist Live right into a Mackie mixer. Fantastic results. Highly recommended.

The Value-packed Workhorse Under $300 at the Guitar Center today!!!!!.

By fernandez shaw

from Chicago, Illinois

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

Blue's tribute to all-around sound and value!. The Bluebird works great on practically anything you want to record!. It's robust enough for drums, horns, and amplifiers, but it's accurate and clear enough to bring out subtle sonic details you want from vocals, acoustic guitars, and piano!. It comes equipped with a custom shockmount and a pop filter!.

Quality All The Way

By Kip Grooms

from Seattle Wa

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

The sound is very pure, not alot of colorization. It is very well built, not cheap in any way. Even the hardware for the pop filter is heavy duty, almost to the point of overkill, it should last for ever. I read some say the pop filter is the down side. The pop filter works great for me. So weather the pop filter works for you or not probibly depends on how hard you naturally punctuate your "Ps""Bs""Ts" etc..

Great Quality Mic

By Dude Bro

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

This has low self noise, it was much more transparent than my AKG Perception 220. If you don't have alot of money I would definitely recommend this to anyone. There are no pads but I think the sound reproduction quality more than makes up for it.

Fantastic Mic

By Don Dupree

from Portland, OR

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I purchased this mic, for use with vocals. But I've found it to be useful in so many different situations in the studio. My previous go to mic was the RODE NT1a which is a great mic, but the Blue Bird has it beat. Buy this and you will be happy!

Best cheapest condenser out there!

By Robert Ryda

from Moscow/Los Angeles

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

This is the best cheapest condenser that I know of and I mean it (in terms of studio use). Its "all that" that people write and I agree with all they say, BUT(!) ... the body of the mic is constructed in such a way that when it is touched it gives an empty sound that is being picked up & recorded! It seems to me that in order to keep the Bluebird going for serious projects oneself has to make the main (blue part) of the body heavier from the inside, so it does not make that empty sound. For example take an empty bottle and a full one and knock on it. You will know what I mean from your own experience then..

Excellent Microphone at a terrific price!!!

      By Timothy Taylor

      from Bristow, Virginia

Comments about Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I bought one of these about two years ago, and have to say, for the money it simply cannot be beat. It has a large diaphragm design, low self noise, and it sensitive enough to pick up the most nuanced performance. In my own experience it is excellent for picking up cymbals, male or female voice, acoustic guitar, drums in a room setting. and just about anything else you might use a cardiod mic for. Is it in the same class as a Neumann, an AKG C414, etc? No. It is not priced at that point, and will not outperform any of the higher end mics, but for about 300 bucks, it IS an excellent Mic, and you wont regret the purchase. As with any condensor mic, get a good stand for noise isolation. There are no complaint points with this mic other than the lack of multi polar patterns, which of course you will pay more for.
