Nice full balanced sound, very flat response except in omni mode where there's a pronounced mid-bump. Proximity effect is easy to work with and control. Works well with vocals as well as instruments. Also useful for foley or sfx work, particularly in stereo mode. Having the capability of going xlr is a definite plus. When running via xlr through the Behringer preamp/board at the station I work at, the sound characteristics are almost identical to the Electrovoice RE-20's we use. Only complaint is that the usb software does not get along well with WinXP: produces a very glitchy sound. Works extremely well with Win7 however.
I would highly recommend this mic for any quality recording application.
