Your vocals — big and in front of the mix.

The Blueberry Cardioid Condenser Microphone from Blue consists of a Class A discrete mic amp perfectly chosen to match the single pattern, cardioid, hand-built, large diaphragm capsule. The mic capsule has been tuned to provide a silky-bright and airy top end reminiscent of the best vintage microphones. The result is a recorded signal such as a vocal, minus unwanted low end resonance that can cause a compressor to breathe or pump, or a vocal or instrument track that sits and blends with the basic tracks of recorded program material. Requires phantom power.

  • Very Difficult To Beat At This Price

As reviewed by Joseph Salvatore on 11/15/2013

I've used this mic for many years, and while there is always subjectivity when judging these things, I can safely say you're going to be hard pressed to beat the sound of this mic without spending at least twice as much. Maybe not even then. It has a very open top end, but not hyped at all. The airy sound comes from the fact that this mic does not give you a lot of proximity effect (the boominess from getting up close to a mic). If you like that boom, then this isn't for you. However, almost all studio applications seek to get rid of this in mix down, so the lack of prox effect is considered a plus by most people. Also, the Blueberry does suffer a little from off-axis rejection. You need to be in front of it. Being off to the side will noticeable change the sound. You don't want to use it for ensembles or have two or three people on one mic. For use as an all around mic for acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion, whatever...this thing does it exceptionally well. As always, try to do your own listening tests if you can, but make sure you hear this before buying anything.

  • Blueberry Blew US away!!

As reviewed by Larry R on 1/19/2007

First I am an ex high end studio engineer and music producer/songwriter. At the San Marcos store myself and my son, plus all the high end audio techs decided to do a side by side comparison of the Blueberry. The first thing you notice is the odd look to it. Classy but unconventional in design. It will not be confused with other look alike mics because nothing looks like it! We had several other mics in the $499 to $1300 range. AKG 414 /Sterlings tube mic, Byer,RODE NT1 and another a Neumann TLM 103 etc. We connected them directly to the recorder no eq in the path and no special pre amps. The results were mind blowing. The Blueberry blew the competition away!! Even in a blind comparison it was in the lead. Airy, open and smooth for Vocals this mic kicks ass!! The only Mic that sounded better was a classic U47 priced at $7,500. For the money it's the best, hands down!! I bought it - so should you!! Want that high end studio sound? Get the BLUE Blueberry!! 5 stars and AAAA+ rated. No eq required! The only reason I gave it 4.5 on features is the lack of a pad or roll off. But the value is there in spades!! BUY THIS MIC - you won't be sorry.
