Overview

"Designed to Inspire," all Ibanez Premium series are manufactured with select tone woods, high-profile electronics, hardware and dedicated skills of craftsmanship and care in details for your musical journey.

The richness of sound, stunning appearance and unrivaled playability of the Ibanez Premium series will open the gate of your reservoir of inspiration. One of the representative Premium models, RG1070PBZ, comes with a wide range of distinctive features that will inspire any guitarist.

The RG1070PBZ features a stunning Poplar Burl body top with a beautiful natural binding on the top and side. It comes with an 11pc Wizard neck, which features slim grip shape made up with wenge, bubinga, maple and purpleheart, contributing to the neck’s extreme rigidity and increasing sustain. The wenge fretboard provides tight response and comes with stainless steel frets. The stainless steel frets are known for their bright tone and add player-friendly features such as long durability and a smoothness to bend notes on. The luminescent side dot inlay make it easy for players to see in the dark, especially when on stage.

The DiMarzio Air Norton, True Velvet and Tone Zone pickups offer depth, warmth and rich dynamics when combined with the 5-way pickup switch. This model adopts Belden wiring material and copper shielding inside control cavity, so noiseless sound can be expected. Furthermore, this model features Edge-Zero II tremolo bridge and it provides exceptional tuning stability, precise intonation adjustment, and playing comfort. The Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads achieve incredible tuning stability, cutting down string-changing time. Case included.

Comments about Ibanez RG Premium RG1070PBZ Electric Guitar:

The most beautiful guitar I've owned, the Poplar top is stunning. Comes with very nice Ibanez labeled case and tool kit. Plays like a dream. Would be even better if it was available in an arch top

Best Out of Three Ibanez Premiums and Prestige Models Own

Comments about Ibanez RG Premium RG1070PBZ Electric Guitar:

      Overall Satisfaction:
I'm learning more about this model as I use it however as a general observation; the finish, the included hardware, and the case are all first rate in all the right ways. It plays with authority and precision. I compared it to my JEM Series Prestige and My Custom Made S540 Limited with no shame (both 2000 era) and all in a similar price category when purchased, this premium a better quality instrument. I love the new canvas type case and prefer it over my hard-shell molded ones.

The tremolo has finally advanced to a precision, flexible, tunable piece of industrial art, a sore point with my other Ibanez gear. Overall I would by this again without hesitation and I didn't buy another last year's model Prestige. Do download the new manual for tips on the thumb wheel feature in the back and to familiarize yourself with the new paradigm for the fasteners on the tremolo which is more streamlined than previous revisions.

      What isn't So Cool
The factory setup was OK and playable but not fabulous. (But this is a personal preference element.)

The Pro version of this tremolo includes a screw located on the right side that is used for on the spot intonation adjustments but has been excluded from this version. Frankly it's a bad decision. All instruments in this price range should accommodate the player and allow for intonation adjustments without any hassles such as this feature.

Mine delivered with the locking nut screws loose in the case and the high E-string also detached. I contacted GC Support, and advised.

Comments about Ibanez RG Premium RG1070PBZ Electric Guitar:

The Poplar burl cap, 11 piece neck, and stainless steel frets with semihemispherical dressing makes this guitar seem like it comes out of the J.Custom line. However, when sat side by side with my J.Custom (a prototype 8570), you can tell why it's less expensive. Honestly, the fit, finish, and quality control is not nearly as good. You can expect tool marks on the fretboard from where the fret dressing file dug into it. The "scraped binding" is unsharp as paint either bled under the tape or was undersprayed. Some of the guitars in the premium line have intonation issues and/or string alignment/neck alignment issues.

However, from 2 feet away the guitar looks stunning. Out of the box it will need a good set up to address any alignment issues it may have, and to fix the overly high action it comes with. But after that, the guitar plays like a dream. The 11 piece neck is slightly thicker than the Japanese Wizard necks, but I find it to be the perfect thickness. The Wenge has a more unfinished feel, which I grealty prefer over the Prestige necks, and is on par with the J. Custom necks.

I spent some time in the store comparing a few guitars of the same model side by side to find the one with the least amount of flaws and was most resonant, and it paid off. This guitar is honestly as toneful as my J.Custom and sounds better than my Prestige.

I would highly recommend buying any Ibanez Premium guitar from the store, so you can inspect them yourself and pick the best one. Because when you get the right one, you may get a few cosmetic flaws, but end up with a guitar with J. Custom features and tone.

The Edge Zero II bridge isn't my favorite, but is much better than the Edge III. The ZPS system makes its tuning stability rock solid. Without it, it still holds tune well but has a much more fluid feel similar to a Lo-Pro Edge (but nothing will beat the Lo-Pro in my book). It's honestly not a bad trem.

Comments about Ibanez RG Premium RG1070PBZ Electric Guitar:

This is the best and most beautiful guitar I've ever owned! I've been looking at this guitar for months but never actually seen one. I finally found one at the GC in Fountain Valley CA and put it in my hands. I was sold in 5 minutes! The set up from the Inanez was terrible. The neck was perfectly straight but the tremolo was too high and the string height way to high. It only took minutes though to lower the string height and dial it in just right. It feels like the strings are right next to the high polished stainless steel frets. Lowest action I can get from any guitar I've ever owned!
