I upgraded from a Epiphone Les Paul Standard. The first thing you'll notice is the higher level of craftsmanship along the fret-board. The Frets are smooth and the finish feels less like plastic. It is much easier to press down on the strings along the fret-board.

This guitar is also weight-relieved so it is much lighter than the Epiphone I used to have.

The Grover Tuners are heavier and have a lower gearing ratio allowing to have more precise tuning.

The pickups on this guitar are noticeably hotter compared to the Epiphone I used to have and this is perfect for me as I play a lot of punk/alternative style music. The Palm mutes sound more heavy on the bridge pickup and the clarity on the neck pickup is more sharp. Plus you get the Single-Coil like sound with the Coil-Taps on the Volume controls.

The only problems I had are nit picky. The toggle switch can get loose sometimes, The Ebony finish really shows fingerprints on the Glossy guitar and the sweet smell of the Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish can get a little strong sometimes.

The 2017 Les Paul Studio T is a nice looking guitar with a fast neck and good tone. However, I believe they seriously overdid the weight relief. The guitar weighs just under 7-1/2 lb, and while standing with it strapped on, let go of the neck and it falls. I can't stand that. I would rather have an 8-1/2-lb or 9lb guitar that is balanced than one on which I have to keep lifting up the neck during a show. That kills my surgically repaired left shoulder. Gibson, if you're trying to be PRS…don't. Les Pauls to me are solid, heavy guitars that sound really good and have great sustain. If I want a hollow body, I'll buy one. If I want a mahogany guitar in the 7 lb range, I'll buy a PRS or Carvin. I can't recommend the Studio T unless you always sit down when playing, and in that case weight wouldn't matter anyhow. What a disappointment.

Gorgeous Guitar

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Studio T Electric Guitar:

I thought I would treat myself to a new guitar. I have always wanted a Gibson Les Paul. Searching the internet, I fell in love with the look of the 2017 Les Paul Studio. I ordered it online though the Guitar Center web site and had it shipped to my local store. It arrived a day earlier than expected. I went to the store to pick it up. The GC staff unboxed it for me. It was even more beautiful in person than any picture I had seen on any website. We checked it out for any damage. There was none. The tech checked the set up. It was right on. The GC staff disposed of all the cardboard for me. I put the guitar in the hard case took it home, attached the strap, tuned it up and started playing. It sounds amazing. The neck is comfortable, the weight feels great, and the finish is smooth. I really like the flexibility of the coil tapping. I'm totally satisfied with this guitar. It will serve me well for many many years.

Les Paul Studio is fantastic

By Jim

from Phoenix, Az

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Studio T Electric Guitar:

I wasted my time and money on Epiphone Special and Standard guitars. I've always wanted a real Gibson with the sound, playability, and setup absolutely fantastic. From the first chord you know you have a great product. The Ebony color is beautiful.

I can't believe folks compare Epiphone guitars to Gibson. I had to take both Epi's back to get a fully working guitar. Each had build, visual, and playability issues.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Studio T Electric Guitar:

The guitar is fine, the service from Guitar Center wasn't. They sent no notice that the order was accepted, shipped, or arrived. It sat at the local Guitar Center store for days till I finally called to see what had happened with the order. This is NOT the way to keep customers.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Studio T Electric Guitar:

Still better sounding than most guitars, however for a les paul this guitar feels like a toy. Gibson has gone way too far with weight relief. It's disingenuous to even classify this as a solid body guitar. It completely lakes the sustain tat les Paul's are known for. As someone who has owned a 2001 les paul studio I can tell you the wood does make a difference. The 2017 studio just sounds dead and empty. Hardware feels cheap as well. Don't spend over a grand of your hard earned money on this guitar. I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it. Save up and buy an older les paul, one that has less weight relief. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. If you don't like the weight or an older les paul then idk what to tell you. Real guitars have weight to them, toys don't.
