Equipped with 2 channels and 4 modes the Blackstar HT Club 40 is an ideal gigging tube amp for club-sized venues. The 40W EL34-driven power amplifier has amazing punch and dynamics that will easily cut through in a full band situation. Switching to the amazing overdrive channel-equipped with ISF (Infinite Shape Feature)-accesses 2 more modes: 'classic crunch' and 'super saturated lead.'

The Clean Channel on the Blackstar Venue tube amp has 2 modes, 'boutique' and 'modern' and its own Tone control provides a wide range of clean tones. The Voice switch reconfigures both the preamplifier voicing and gain structure, and the power amplifier damping, to reproduce either ringing Class A Performance in the 'boutique' mode, or very clean and tight Class AB tones in the 'modern' setting.

The Overdrive Channel has its own EQ section and a Voice switch that allows the character of the channel to be changed, providing a wide variety of overdriven tones.

The channel is characterized by a tone that's high in gain, but lacks any of the detached top-end 'fizz' often found in similar designs. This is a result of unique preamplifier and power amplifier shaping techniques, which cleans up the overdrive beautifully as the guitar volume is reduced. Even at the most extreme settings, the overdrive channel remains natural sounding. The ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) control is unique to Blackstar Amplification and represents a major step forward in tone shaping flexibility. The Blackstar amplifier's ISF control shifts the response of the 3-control tone stack between a US-type response at one end, and at the other a UK-type response. The tube amp provides an infinite number of alternative tone choices in between the 2 extremes that would be otherwise unavailable.

The Blackstar HT Club 40 tube amp also features a completely natural sounding digital reverb, which is outstandingly musical on both clean and crunch tones. A Dark/Bright switch allows the overall reverb characteristics to be modified to suit different tastes and playing styles.

This amp is brilliant amp for any kind of genre. It has a beautiful clean sound and distortion sound with a voice switch for each channel which changes the tone of the amp from a classic style to a modern style, and out of all the amps that i've tried, this is probably the best amp for distortion and getting the sound you want. From left to right, on the front panel, you have the input, clean volume, clean voice and the clean tone. Then you have the overdrive indicator and overdrive selector. Then you have your three overdrive knobs, gain, voice and volume. Then the three normal knobs bass middle and treble. You also have a very unusual knob called the ISF, it changes the type of tone you want out of the amp. When it is fully counter clockwise, it sounds more aggressive (USA), and fully clockwise has a less aggressive sound (UK). After you ISF, you have your reverb control which controls the overall level of your reverb effect. Then at the back panel, you have a reverb Dark/Light button. In the out position the digital reverb is voiced to have a warm dark quality. When the Light position is selected the reverb has a brighter quality with more zing on the reverb tail. Overall, i think this is a very good amp and when you look at it, it really warms your heart, and if you are looking for a great sound that is stuck inside your head, this is the amp to get. This high gain amp is all you need for median sized gigs.

Bought one in August 2012. Returned in Sept. 2012 due to a loud hum. Went through GC who accepted even though it was a few days past their allowable in-store return policy. That was much appreciated. New one arrived a few days later and has been fine until a couple weeks ago when it started completely cutting out. Probably the cheap plastic lined input jack. It is now 3 to 4 months past the one-year warranty. The amps have both extremely well cared for and gently handled. The first one never left my home and the replacement went to our air-conditioned practice location and has been brought to two gigs. To me, this level of quality or lack thereof is ridiculous. Forget trying to contact them through the US Contact tab on their website as it redirects to Korg USA and their contact link is a dead link. No excuse for any of this. Now I will have to pay out of pocket at one of their US approved service locations. At least that link worked. Would rate Zero Stars if that were an option........

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I just bought the amp and so far so good. I like all the different tone shaping options it has available. It really gives you a wide range of options when trying to dial in sounds from different genres of music. I have yet to try out the extra speaker extensions or the output it has for recording.

I bought this as my first tube amp. I've got friends that have Mesa and other high end amps but for the $$ this will have their head spinning. Hit the overdrive on the foot switch that's included and have your ears ringing with joy! And trust me, this 40w gets plenty loud too.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I did a lot of research on tube amps in this power range. I wanted something that I could play at low volumes at home and in a club and it sound good at both places and this does it well. Between the voicing switch and the ISF knob you can truly dial in any tone you can imagine. The cleans are clean which was important for me as I wanted to use pedals for distortion/fuzz. The reverb is great as well. Build quality is there, you can feel it. Can't go wrong with the price either. I strongly recommend this amp for the gigging musician, recording or jamming at home.

i collect guitars and amps i have been a gigging musician for 52 years i own a multitude of great amps i recently bought an ht 20 and ht 40 based on reviews both have a passable clean channel both have a horrible gain channel the gain channel has a super loose bottom end and at every possible setting, zero note definition honestly, i have played $30 transistor amps that had far better gain sounds. for the same price you can buy a new dsl 40c. it has a superb clean channel and typical marshall gain channel. if you like marshall tones you will like the dsl 40c. why settle for an bad imitation when you can own the real thing for the same money?

Blackstar ht club 40 vs Marshall dsl 40c

                By Moss

                from Oakland, CA

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

let me start off by saying that i recently returned this amp. I returned it because it sounded too muddy or tinny & thin depending on the eq settings I used, and it lacked clarity in the distortion channel. to me, It sounded like the amp had a stuffy nose. when i changed the eq to try to fix the problem, it just sounded too tinny. when i returned it I bought the Marshall dsl 40c, and immediately noticed that the distortion channel was much clearer and had more rawness to it. In other words, it sounded MUCH better. the distortion channel was also a lot more versatile. The clean channels of both amps were about the same in sound quality. here are the pros and cons of the Blackstar compared to the Marshall. pros: better reverb, separate eq for each channel, master volume control, emulated output, $ cheaper cons: distortion channel does not sound nearly as good, the eq is way less dynamic, no presence or resonance control, the distortion does not really change very much as you turn the gain knob in conclusion, try out both amps before you make your purchase. in my opinion the Marshall is WAY better tonally on the distortion channel than the Blackstar. The extra $ was worth it for me and It will be for you if you like having much better tone.
