Equipped with 2 channels and 4 modes the Blackstar HT Club 40 is an ideal gigging tube amp for club-sized venues. The 40W EL34-driven power amplifier has amazing punch and dynamics that will easily cut through in a full band situation. Switching to the amazing overdrive channel-equipped with ISF (Infinite Shape Feature)-accesses 2 more modes: 'classic crunch' and 'super saturated lead.'

The Clean Channel on the Blackstar Venue tube amp has 2 modes, 'boutique' and 'modern' and its own Tone control provides a wide range of clean tones. The Voice switch reconfigures both the preamplifier voicing and gain structure, and the power amplifier damping, to reproduce either ringing Class A Performance in the 'boutique' mode, or very clean and tight Class AB tones in the 'modern' setting.

The Overdrive Channel has its own EQ section and a Voice switch that allows the character of the channel to be changed, providing a wide variety of overdriven tones.

The channel is characterized by a tone that's high in gain, but lacks any of the detached top-end 'fizz' often found in similar designs. This is a result of unique preamplifier and power amplifier shaping techniques, which cleans up the overdrive beautifully as the guitar volume is reduced. Even at the most extreme settings, the overdrive channel remains natural sounding. The ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) control is unique to Blackstar Amplification and represents a major step forward in tone shaping flexibility. The Blackstar amplifier's ISF control shifts the response of the 3-control tone stack between a US-type response at one end, and at the other a UK-type response. The tube amp provides an infinite number of alternative tone choices in between the 2 extremes that would be otherwise unavailable.

The Blackstar HT Club 40 tube amp also features a completely natural sounding digital reverb, which is outstandingly musical on both clean and crunch tones. A Dark/Bright switch allows the overall reverb characteristics to be modified to suit different tastes and playing styles.

This amp is brilliant amp for any kind of genre. It has a beautiful clean sound and distortion sound with a voice switch for each channel which changes the tone of the amp from a classic style to a modern style, and out of all the amps that i've tried, this is probably the best amp for distortion and getting the sound you want. From left to right, on the front panel, you have the input, clean volume, clean voice and the clean tone. Then you have the overdrive indicator and overdrive selector. Then you have your three overdrive knobs, gain, voice and volume. Then the three normal knobs bass middle and treble. You also have a very unusual knob called the ISF, it changes the type of tone you want out of the amp. When it is fully counter clockwise, it sounds more aggressive (USA), and fully clockwise has a less aggressive sound (UK). After you ISF, you have your reverb control which controls the overall level of your reverb effect. Then at the back panel, you have a reverb Dark/Light button. In the out position the digital reverb is voiced to have a warm dark quality. When the Light position is selected the reverb has a brighter quality with more zing on the reverb tail. Overall, i think this is a very good amp and when you look at it, it really warms your heart, and if you are looking for a great sound that is stuck inside your head, this is the amp to get. This high gain amp is all you need for median sized gigs.

let me start off by saying that i recently returned this amp. I returned it because it sounded too muddy or tinny & thin depending on the eq settings I used, and it lacked clarity in the distortion channel. to me, It sounded like the amp had a stuffy nose. when i changed the eq to try to fix the problem, it just sounded too tinny. when i returned it I bought the Marshall dsl 40c, and immediately noticed that the distortion channel was much clearer and had more rawness to it. In other words, it sounded MUCH better. the distortion channel was also a lot more versatile. The clean channels of both amps were about the same in sound quality. here are the pros and cons of the Blackstar compared to the Marshall. pros: better reverb, separate eq for each channel, master volume control, emulated output, $ cheaper cons: distortion channel does not sound nearly as good, the eq is way less dynamic, no presence or resonance control, the distortion does not really change very much as you turn the gain knob in conclusion, try out both amps before you make your purchase. in my opinion the Marshall is WAY better tonally on the distortion channel than the Blackstar. The extra $ was worth it for me and It will be for you if you like having much better tone.

OMG....What?

By Bob Osbourne

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

No seriously. I bought this amp based on tons of positive online reviews. Honestly though, I really liked what I heard when I played this amp in person at a local store. Also, YouTube has quite a few decent videos of the HT40. So I decided to get the amp. I got a chance to play around with the amp for a week or so to get used to it, find the sweeter areas with the settings. I thought it sounded ok... I mean, it has a decent clean sound if you really roll off the guitar volume. The crunch is there. It puts out quite a bit of gain. I think the reverb is middle ground...nothing spectacular. Then it came time to really put it to the test...in a live setting. I showed up, everyone was stoked to hear the new amp. All was going well, but something wasn't right...tough to put a finger on. Then one of the band members told me that the amp sounded good, but it was kind of sterile. He said it lacked something, maybe character. The amp does sound ok, but the music doesn't really come alive with this thing. After hearing the song through playback, I agreed with him. I used it for another couple of weeks, changing tubes..the speaker, but couldn't get the thing to wake up. I returned the amp to stock and sent it back. Still lookin.

Great amp for the price.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I had been looking for an affordable tube amp on a tight budget. I looked at Egnaters, used Mesas, and a few others before learning about Blackstar. I decided on this one because of its sound and features, and it was well within my budget! Initially I was a little concerned about having only a single tone knob for the clean channel, but between the voice feature and the excellent tone quality of the clean channel my concerns were quickly dispelled. I love the clean channel. The OD channel is also excellent. You can easily dial in anything from slight crunch to paint peeling distortion, and the voice and ISF features are very fine. The digital reverb is much nicer than I expected. The amp takes pedals very well in front or in the effects loop, but I enjoy the unadorned sonic capabilities of the amp so much that I've been playing my Strat Plus and G&L ASAT without pedals or the amp's reverb. It sounds great all by itself. It's very quiet and is highly responsive to finger pressure and attack, chiming or whoofing on demand. The build quality appears to be very good, and I received a reponse from Blackstar w/in twenty four hours to a concern I had that turned out to be unrelated to the amp. I am highly pleased with this amp and enjoy plugging in. I recommend it!

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I tried and returned these amps recently: Marshall Class 5 Jet City JCA20 (head + cab) Blackstar HT-5 mini-stack ...tested these in store: Egnator Tweaker Orange Tiny Terror ...a bunch of others... In my opinion, if you take the best parts of the amps listed above and roll them into a single package, you get the HT-40. It's got more power on tap, but the master volume works wonderfully. Beautiful jingle-jangle clean channel and a very wide range of dirt. Like the Tweaker, the control layout is pretty simple, yet gives you an amazing amount of sonic options. Plenty of power to gig and excellent 'bedroom' manners all in a right-sized combo. I'm very happy!

It doesn't take a fortune to sound like a million bucks.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I was turned towards this combo as soon as I read every review and research article I could find pointing my towards it. I brought my Les Paul BFG and 57 Custom VOS Gold Top to trick this amp into showing my it's range flaws. I was very impressed at the tonal capability and the ISF selector is very resourceful. (Note: It doesn't phase in with a flat mid selected) The only other less than stellar feature is the reverb loop. After getting home and plugging in my Holy Grail Reverb it really took all the stock out of the built in feature. I suppose it is a nice last minute dig if you need it away from home and are lacking pedals. Overall I would say my experience with Blackstar has made me a true fan and I firmly believe it is the next Marshall of it's time. This line will be a great vintage collector someday when Blackstar is the standard.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

i set out to my local music store to buy a fender hotrod,my trusted friend and dealer introduced me to the blackstar,I had not heard of this brand but gave it a shot.I am a tube tone freak and it resonated fantastic, I brought it home, plugged in my gibson marauder and proceeded to experiment.I personally did not like the distortion channel, but then i never do.I then switched it to clean, turned the volume all the way up, bumped up the bass, brought down the treble and mid and BINGO... that classic, natural, ball tingling distortion was ringing sweetly in my ears, brought my guitar volume down and a great clean tone emerged.I am old school and not a tech kind of guy so i like amps that allow a stupid guy like me to get my variance from my guitar knobs, i love this amp...

Great Sound A Little Worried About Quality

By DAVID THORNELL

from Chesterfield MI

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I got mine about a month ago. When I pulled it out of the box, I heard a rattle in the cab. I pull the back off found a loose screw. After a little inspection I found out it was one of the screws holding the transformer in place. I screwed it in and also had to tighten up two of the three remaining screws that hold the tranformer in place as they were loose. I can't believe that this could be missed by some kind of qaulity control check if there was one done. With that being said I really love the sound of this amp. Both clean channel are very good and the overdrive sounds are outstanding. I just hope that it holds up over time.
