Equipped with 2 channels and 4 modes the Blackstar HT Club 40 is an ideal gigging tube amp for club-sized venues. The 40W EL34-driven power amplifier has amazing punch and dynamics that will easily cut through in a full band situation. Switching to the amazing overdrive channel-equipped with ISF (Infinite Shape Feature)-accesses 2 more modes: 'classic crunch' and 'super saturated lead.'

The Clean Channel on the Blackstar Venue tube amp has 2 modes, 'boutique' and 'modern' and its own Tone control provides a wide range of clean tones. The Voice switch reconfigures both the preamplifier voicing and gain structure, and the power amplifier damping, to reproduce either ringing Class A Performance in the 'boutique' mode, or very clean and tight Class AB tones in the 'modern' setting.

The Overdrive Channel has its own EQ section and a Voice switch that allows the character of the channel to be changed, providing a wide variety of overdriven tones.

The channel is characterized by a tone that's high in gain, but lacks any of the detached top-end 'fizz' often found in similar designs. This is a result of unique preamplifier and power amplifier shaping techniques, which cleans up the overdrive beautifully as the guitar volume is reduced. Even at the most extreme settings, the overdrive channel remains natural sounding. The ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) control is unique to Blackstar Amplification and represents a major step forward in tone shaping flexibility. The Blackstar amplifier's ISF control shifts the response of the 3-control tone stack between a US-type response at one end, and at the other a UK-type response. The tube amp provides an infinite number of alternative tone choices in between the 2 extremes that would be otherwise unavailable.

The Blackstar HT Club 40 tube amp also features a completely natural sounding digital reverb, which is outstandingly musical on both clean and crunch tones. A Dark/Bright switch allows the overall reverb characteristics to be modified to suit different tastes and playing styles.

This amp is brilliant amp for any kind of genre. It has a beautiful clean sound and distortion sound with a voice switch for each channel which changes the tone of the amp from a classic style to a modern style, and out of all the amps that i've tried, this is probably the best amp for distortion and getting the sound you want. From left to right, on the front panel, you have the input, clean volume, clean voice and the clean tone. Then you have the overdrive indicator and overdrive selector. Then you have your three overdrive knobs, gain, voice and volume. Then the three normal knobs bass middle and treble. You also have a very unusual knob called the ISF, it changes the type of tone you want out of the amp. When it is fully counter clockwise, it sounds more aggressive (USA), and fully clockwise has a less aggressive sound (UK). After you ISF, you have your reverb control which controls the overall level of your reverb effect. Then at the back panel, you have a reverb Dark/Light button. In the out position the digital reverb is voiced to have a warm dark quality. When the Light position is selected the reverb has a brighter quality with more zing on the reverb tail. Overall, i think this is a very good amp and when you look at it, it really warms your heart, and if you are looking for a great sound that is stuck inside your head, this is the amp to get. This high gain amp is all you need for median sized gigs.

Amp sounds great, just wish the Blackstar Quality Control was better! The first time I purchased the amp, there was a screw lose in the amp - no big deal, I tightened it up. Then I noticed the amp logo was peeling off, didn't bother me. Then I tried out the footswitch for the first time and it wasn't working properly. At this point I decided to exchange the amp for the same model. The second amp had a loud humming sound after playing for 10 minutes. I am returning it and am done with Blackstar. One thing I have to mention is that Musician's Friend customer service is exceptional. Each time I called they were very helpful.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Absolutely awesome is all I can say about this amp. Plenty of power and tonal adjustment to get sounds from creamy blues tone, to classic rock, right up to modern gain. Amp handles pedals well. This is my first tube amp with an effects loop and it's the only way to run delay and modulation style pedals.

I just bought the amp and so far so good. I like all the different tone shaping options it has available. It really gives you a wide range of options when trying to dial in sounds from different genres of music. I have yet to try out the extra speaker extensions or the output it has for recording.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I run either a Fender Telecaster and an ESP EC-1000. Both sound excellent through the amp. The Clean channel gets very clean, not fender clean but still very nice. Both channels have 2 different modes. I can get great cleans out of the Clean channel and works very well with pedals. Dirty channel is sooo amazing. You can get it to just a light overdrive or you can get serious metal tones on it. The only real problem i have with the amp is that the clean channel has no eq, just a tone knob.It is very heavy and difficult to carry because the handle is leather and dries out and cracks easily. But the amp is great and is a great price..

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased this amp from Musicians Friend in April, 2011, so I'm a little late reviewing it. I have used this amp continuously for over 5 years now for large outdoor gigs, small bar gigs, and everything in between. Some recent outdoor gigs this summer have been over 107 degrees in blowing dust and dirt. It has been loaded and unloaded countless times, banged, kicked and knocked over and has never once even hiccuped. This is one of the first amps I have owned that I have total confidence in. It always works and always sounds great. The only downside to this amp is that it is big and pretty heavy for a 112 combo, and I have had to replace the handle twice already.

As far as power goes, it has more than enough. I have played many outdoor gigs without putting a mic on it. Pretty amazing for a somewhat low powered, 112 combo.

I picked up this amp open box item from MF and it has blown away my expectations. I watched a lot of video reviews on the amp before buying and it has definitely been every bit as good as I hoped. I've only been using it in the studio so far, but hoping to gig with it too. The clean tone is gorgeous and the overdrive is large and warm. The reverb is great too. I can't say anything bad about this amp.

I bought this as my first tube amp. I've got friends that have Mesa and other high end amps but for the $$ this will have their head spinning. Hit the overdrive on the foot switch that's included and have your ears ringing with joy! And trust me, this 40w gets plenty loud too.

Comments about Blackstar Venue Series HT Club 40 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I did a lot of research on tube amps in this power range. I wanted something that I could play at low volumes at home and in a club and it sound good at both places and this does it well. Between the voicing switch and the ISF knob you can truly dial in any tone you can imagine. The cleans are clean which was important for me as I wanted to use pedals for distortion/fuzz. The reverb is great as well. Build quality is there, you can feel it. Can't go wrong with the price either. I strongly recommend this amp for the gigging musician, recording or jamming at home.
