Overview

The ID:Core40 is a solid 40W entry-level guitar amplifier that provides incredible tone and flexibility thanks to a simple and intuitive control set with two 6.5" speakers which provide super wide stereo for an immersive playing experience that will have you hooked on playing guitar.

ID:CORE represents the culmination of more than seven years' technical Research and Development. These amps have an intuitive control set like a traditional amp, but have the versatility of programmability. The unique controls allow you, the guitarist, to custom design your own sound. The Voice control has six different settings - Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, OD 1, OD 2. When used together with Blackstar's patented ISF control you can get the exact tone you're thinking of. The effects section delivers studio quality modulation, delay and reverb effects simultaneously that you can store with your sound.

Deep editing and storing of patches is simple using the Blackstar INSIDER software. Patches can be shared, uploaded and downloaded via the online community. The USB connector also allows you to record from your amp directly to your computer. An emulated output and MP3/line input complete the package. By using the unique Voice control and the patented ISF, ID:CORE Series amplifiers allow unparalleled flexibility and ease of use, enabling you to design the sound in your head and deliver it at home, in the studio or in rehearsal.

The positives-- the amp is light to carry, has a lot of good sounds like most modeling amps, and the stereo thing is cool. The negatives- the amp is strictly for home rehearsal and / or recording. The amp is not very loud. It has two 20 watt amps and is not 40 watts as in "40 watts of power" loud. So don't think you can carry this to practice with your band and be heard over drums. I point this out only because the YouTube videos make it sound much bigger than it is. Nice little amp, but understand what it's for.

The Amp has an awesome sound and was a lot of fun . Plugged it into the computer to use the Insider software and the amp shut off and would not turn back on . I returned the Amp to the store and saw mine was not the only one that was defective. I exchanged it and some $$ for a ID 60 . The ID 60 is a good sounding amp it did have some problems with interference but I changed outlets and now it works fine . If you buy the ID core ( they do have that awesome sound ) get the added coverage.

REVOLUTIONARY!!

By Paul Dezelski

from Williamsburg, Iowa

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing all styles of music for almost 40 years, played many different guitars and amps. I know good sound and tone, and this amp will even change the "boutique tube amp purists" out there. With the "super-wide stereo" setting, you will not believe your ears!! Winner at NAMM 2014 "Best In Show". I can't explain how good this sounds, you have to hear it for yourself. At $199, might be the best investment I've ever made. Trading in all my pedal effects and amps, this is THAT good!!

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

The sound is outstanding. The clean, in particular. However, I had to exchange the amp because the sound kept cutting in and out and eventually quit altogether. The new amp has a few LEDs on the channel selector that don't light up. Sound is superb, the workmanship is just hit or miss.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

So, Bobby is right. You can't use this if you're rehearsing with a band. But, it's very versatile when using as a home practice amp or for recording. The sweet thing about the ID:Core is the ability to download different patches from the Blackstar community and have your amp programmed with the particular ""sounds"" you're after. While it will only hold 6 total patches, it's very easy to switch out any or all of the slots. Or, if you leave it plugged into your computer, you can switch around effortlessly from a total database of something like 128 saved patches. You can also load mp3s of the songs you want to play along with and/or download free backing tracks. It's got good tone and the stereo effect really enhances the overall sound. Unless you live out in the sticks, you'll probably not be able to go full volume, so you'd probably be safe getting the 20W version.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

First solid state amp I've heard that offers, crunch = f (guitar volume controls), very much like a tube amp. Meaning: tune in more crunch with your pinky finger on the volume control. Sorry but the MG 30 CFX doesn't and neither does Fender Champion (which I like a fair bit). This one does. And...the 6 ""presets"" are amazing, tuning in just the right gain, ISF and combination of 3 effects. Now the Yamaha THR is a contender, but I don' think it will get you heard over drums, and this 40w ID Core (at least in my basement) certainly is heard above my son's drumming. (Well, thinking more, maybe the clean setting might be right on the edge, but Crunch and beyond, no problemo!) Just wish the footswitch was $60 instead of $90. Great job Blackstar.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Best practice amp ever. It wouldn't be able to be gigged with by itself, but put a mic in front of this baby and look out. This company knows how to get the sounds you're looking for. For the price point, I'm very impressed! This is the best sounding amp in it's price range, though there are definitely several other contenders which are excellent. I don't see how anyone looking for a great practice amp could go wrong with this offering. I haven't checked the cost of the foot switch yet, so that could be someplace they could rip you up a bit. If you ran through a multi-effects box and then into this amp, I think you would be able to get some great sounds. I've had Peavey, Fender, Marshall and many other practice amps through the years, but this amp is my new favorite. My 2 cents.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 40W Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is most suited for a practice or small cafe venue situation with unique stereo type effects. However the idea does not transfer well into the recording world as effects sound very unnatural compared to other high quality audio effects. Effects are extremely "digital" and are obvious to the ear in a recording situation. Overall the quality is great for practice or home entertainment purposes.

I picked up the ID: core 40 watt stereo amp at my local Guitar center and I have to say I have no regrets. I tried out Fender, Vox, Acoustic and others before deciding on this amp. I was not looking for an amp to blow out the windows, on the contrary, I wanted something for my small room studio with good mellow sound and this fit the bill. If you are looking for an amp at $200 or less, you should consider this.
