Killer Tone At The Right Price!

from Alameda, CA

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought the HT-5 to use in my home studio. There is a lot of bang for the buck going on here. The overdrive/gain goes from mild to wild...the included foot switch allows you to go from clean to mean...the FX's loop in the back will sweeten anyone's attack...the ISP knob shifts from American Scream to British Creme...there's EQ and reverb to help shape how you get heard...power and stand by are on the front panel while on top of the amp is the carrying handle...ok enough with the Dr. Seuss stuff...seriously this amp is a real powerhouse full of Kool features that you will really use. Don't let the 5watt rating fool you...this mother will break glass when used with the right cab...the options in the back allow you to run anything from a 112 cab all the way up to a 4 X 12...the amp breaks up nicely with tons of head room to spare...I love the OD so much that I'm only running a delay pedal through the FX's loop and wah/compression through the front end...and I have a boat load of OD/Distortion pedals to choose can throw more $$$$$ at bigger name brands like Marshall & Orange (to name just two that I tested) and while I LOVE MARSHALL AMPS, I'm not a big fan of their price far as the Orange (lunchbox amps) went, I found them to be thin sounding with no real way to adjust them. You CAN truly find many different tonal settings within the Blackstar line...with a little time and tweaking you'll dial in the sound in your with all that said and with what you just read...I let out a cheer while raising my beer...and to Blackstar my "Thanks" to the money you saved me still there in my bank...Peace.

Unreliable-not so

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I previously wrote a review on the HT-5 head. It was labelled unreliable. So now I have had the amp back for several months now, no problems at all I am glad to report. Blackstar took care of repairs, because it is under warranty. There were 3 resistors that were out. Blackstar located the place for the repairs. When I got the amp back ,it was easy to dial back into the sound I wanted and made some tracks. As I mentioned before, this is a versitle, dynamic amp head, and has a great look.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This Amp is just a solid buy. the price is good. the tone is great, and the best thing is the versatility. I purchased this amp for home use in practice and recording. I wanted a Low wattage amp that could get some decent tone at a volume that would allow me to not get evicted, and keep what little is left of my hearing... Mission accomplished!

The tone is very impressive and with the eq and ISF features, the OD channel is really flexible. you can tune in a pretty broad range from lean to mean and it is really fun to just sit there dialing in tones. the Clean channel is great too, but not perfect. It had a fair amount of headroom and if it had more tone shaping options it would be a superb clean channel. even with only a single "tone" dial i was still able to get some really nice tones.

The build quality is spot-on. I have not had any products from Blackstar before but I was really impressed by the build quality and especially foot switch. it's really well made and the transition from channel to channel is smooth and clean. no chop and pop or cut outs just a nice flip, undetectable to the ears. well done!

it seems to handle most pedals well and has an effects loop. thumbs up there as well. it's a nice feature and not expected at this price point. The reverb is nice as well, full and warm , and sounds great across the dial but may not cover every reverb need, still nice to have though.

Overall. for the money, this is a great bargain. tone far exceeded my expectation and i was quite surprised by just how much versatility I could get out of this little amp. Is it a sonically flawless master work of amplification perfection?'s not. if you want that you you will need to spend much much more to get it. but for the price, it's as close as you may get.

And, don't let the "5-watts" fool ya. it can get pretty LOUD. easily enough to get me evicted... Playing live and competing with a drummer may be a stretch , but miced, it would be great live

Great amp - and LOUD too!

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Turned it on, and within 5 minutes had a killer tone dialed in at low volume. Running it through a 4x12 HIWATT cabinet, and it really sounds good. Have to dial it in some still, but was VERY impressed with the sound quality and build quality of the amp. I honestly don't think there's a better value out there for a low-wattage tube amp that has an effects loop, 2 channels, and great tone so quickly right out of the box. If you're on the fence, go ahead and buy it - it's well worth the money.

    Great amp, buy it!

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I love this amp. Reverb sounds great, actually prefer it to my Hardwire reverb - maybe it's the simplicity of it. I was looking for a good low watt amp for home use/recording. This is great because you can use the emulated out to go directly into your audio interface which is perfect for late night recording when your kids are asleep. I'm running it through a custom 2x12 cab with WGS speakers (Greenback copies) with a Gibson LP for comparison purposes and it sounds great low or high volume. I have a 10 band eq but don't really feel I need it with this amp. I also have an Egnater Tweeker 15 watt head which I really like (very versatile amp) but am finding the Blackstar is working out better for my purposes (AC/DC, Zep, ZZ top, VH, type stuff). The tweeker effects loop on mine won't work with my delay pedal and is ok with my chorus but the Blackstar has taken every effect pedal I've put in the effects loop without any problems. My wah pedal and phaser pedal in front of the amp sound great too. I'm very very happy with amp, highly recommend it.

    Blackstar HT-5RH Is Totally Sweet

    By Robert Wilson

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have been using the amp for almost a month now, and it does really well for me. I purchased it to be able to record with the emulated output, or with headphones on as well as play through my 2x12 setup without bringing the house down and it does these 3 things very well. It can still get loud and shake the floor a bit, but that is typically louder than I ever want to play it at home anyway. I have another amp for bigger gigs and such, but wanted something with an effects loop for my pedals that had a nice gain at lower volumes, which is where this excels. The clean is still very nice on this amp and very usable, especially with some nice effects to help bring about the mood your trying to set with your Music. Overall, it is a great amp and worth the money entirely. You will be hard pressed to find something with this much gain in a tube amp, for this price that reliable/well built and sounds great.

Best head I've had in a long time!

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I love this little tone monster! I use it to drive a 2x12 Randall cabinet and it is more than loud enough to hear over a drummer. The dirty channel is awesome! Exactly what you'd expect from Blackstar. The clean channel is good, better than any other lunchbox head I've tried, but not great. The reverb is very good.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-5RH Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp has great tone and dyanamics. The amp is very fun to practice on and easy to record with, however in less than 5 months at an average playing time of 15 minutes a day, the amp has failed 2 times. Both times the same type of issue has come up. No volume, unless you crank it to full volume. At that time it sounds like grit garbage. The first time Guitar Center tried to diagnose the problem. They tried changing the tubes with no success. they replaced it. Now taking it back to select a different amp. I write/compose and record music and do not have time for this type of down time. Thankfully I have a good back up amp. I hope Blackstar can solve the issue with the HT-5. It appears to be an issue with the solid state part of the amp.
