Overview

The Blackstar HT-5 is a 1x10" combo amp ideal for studio work or practice, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT tube pedals into a 2-channel, footswitchable tube amp format. The tube amp's patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes your tone from the USA to the UK and any where in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find "that sound in your head."

In making the Blackstar HT-5 guitar amplifier ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a tube amp that sounded full and toneful even at the lowest volume level. With this in mind Blackstar designed a brand-new tube power amplifier topology. The HT-5C power amplifier is a low-powered, push-pull design which producing the crunch and breakup characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage but at a much lower volume via its 12BH7 dual-triode in push-pull configuration producing 5 watts output, which is rich in tube harmonics and compression.

The Blackstar HT-5 guitar combo amp also has a fully specified speaker-emulated output, further enhancing its studio credentials and allowing any guitarist to get amazing tube tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch, allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between 2 emulated cabinet types.

Add to this an effects loop with switchable level, along with 16-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs allowing you to run the guitar amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing right here in the Blackstar HT-5 tube amp.

It took a long time for me to find a tube amplifier with the featurs I wanted at a price I could afford. What a bonus that it also sounds great. The clean channel shines. With pickup volume maxed, it sparkles with just a hint of edge. Moderating pickup volume removes the edge and produces crystal clear sound. This little box really shines in the overdrive channel. With adjustments to the gain control, I can get sounds from a bluesy slight breakup to full blown crunch, unaffected by the amp's volume setting. With the infinite shape feature to modify the interaction of the tone controls, the voicing can range from traditional American amp sounds to raging Hendirx-like distortion. I needed an amp with headphone output because most of my practice time is after the rest of the house is in bed. With the voicing options for the headphone output, the sound in my headphones matches what I hear through the speaker. An added bonus is that the channel footswitch is INCLUDED. WOW!

I read tons of reviews saying how great of a amp this was and watch numerous videos on youtube and various sights and thought this amp was perfect. I received it today and after a short amount of playing found a crack in the back of the enclosure. quickly to sound changed from a nice warm tube tone to crackling and feedback. This clean channel sucks but the overdrive is quite good. keep looking this is not the amp you want trust me...

Blackstar HT-5 For That Perfect Tone!

By Witnar

from Deep in the heart of Texas

For playing clear, I use my Hot Rod Deluxe. The Blackstar HT-5 is not too inspiring for clear tones, but then, that isn't what I bought it for. I wanted to hear some sweet distortion - the kind that makes you sigh when you hear it on the radio. And this amp delivers. It's loud, too, but loud and full aren't the same thing, and one little ten inch speaker is a distinct limitation. I would like it to sound a little bigger - not louder, just fuller, so to that end, I plan to add one of the Blackstar 10 inch extension cabs, and I think that will do the trick. In any case, I definitely recommend this product. For that sweet distortion that just makes your heart ache, this amp delivers and without your having to turn it up loud enough to kill cats and dogs.
This amp has most of the bells and whistles you can think of: Two channels - of course! It allows for headphones, an extended cab, includes a footswitch, a bank of equalizer controls, and the tone shaping feature is something I just don't get tired of playing with, and the sounds you can get from the distortion is just wonderful, and you don't have to blow down the neighbor's house with volume to get it!
I trust my local luthier pretty well - he does good work for me, and as a certified guitar maniac, I send him a lot of business. One day he said," ""Man"," have you heard that Blackstar HT-5? That has got to be one of the sweetest sounding amps I've ever heard!"" Well", of course, I was hooked and had to have one. After surfing ebay for used (apparently people seldom sell them once they've bought them), waiting for the universe to deliver one to my door for free (well, you never know!), and coming up zip, I broke down and ordered one from this website. I was not disappointed. I have quite a few nice guitars, but one of the sweetest sounds is from a Squier Classic Vibe 50s," and that guitar played through this amp can deliver tones that would wring tears from a stone statue! Words fail me when I play my American Deluxe Strat through this amp with the controls set for imitation of the ""British"" sound - what can I say? - my wife was impressed. As you married fellows know", impressing the wife counts for a lot, and it's never easy!
The amp seems rugged and durable, and the overall feel of it is that it is well built. On the other hand, I have only owned it a few weeks so far - but I don't foresee any problems. The sound quality pretty much classifies this amp as being in the boutique class, and as such is at the bottom range of the boutique scale. To find an amp sound to compare it to, I think you are probably going to have to spend about a thousand dollars, so this is a steal! The only complaint I would have is that the little 10 inch speaker sounds a little on the thin side - speaking purely of the fullness of the sound.

Rock the House

By Robert Clinger

from Undisclosed

I own this little monster. It comes with a footswitch, 2 channels, the ISF control, treb/mid/bass tone stack, gain & vol on overdrive channel, line out, ext. speaker jacks, an effects loop w/+4 -10 option, Celestion speaker TOO, ALL for this price!!! Who else gives you all that, AND tubes, AND actually rocks and sounds GREAT? great home practice amp!!! The guys making these used to make "another" great English amp, so they obviously had a lot of practice! Try it, it rocks!

blackstar HT5 Combo

By OUTLAW-8Kg3M

from Iraq

first I must say I have both the combo and the head unit which should tell you how much I love this gem. I love the fact I can adjust my tone to suit my mood from the american to the british side of the house. I am currently in Iraq and that is why I have the combo so that way I can practice in my CHU without driving my neighbors nuts. If this amp were to ever stolen I would be getting another one!

Excellent Amp If You're On A Budget

By EVEHOLT3141

from Portland, Oregon

This was the first amp that I bought and I've been happy with it ever since! It has pretty good tone and, although it lacks any reverb, it has fairly good distortion. As for volume, I am in a band and it can easily keep up with drums and two other instruments. All in all, it's a very good amp for the price range.

I've had this amp since last year and just changed the pre amp tube and it made all the difference. I added a Tung Sol 12AX7 and wow, this thing really came to life. If your going to buy and looking for metal/thrash sounds, add the Tung sol and get a Bad Monkey, you won't be sorry.

Blackstar HT-5 Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp

By LON KRUSE

from MINNESOTA

I love this amp. Great tone for all styles of music. Sounds unbelievable hooked up to my gnx3 which I can hook up through the effects loop on the amp. If you are looking for a good quality amp at a good price, you will want to try this one out. The other thing I like about it is that it's loud enough to get the good tone but you wont blast everybody out of the house.

Great TUBE AMP, Great Tone, Great Price

By jortiz

from El Campo, TX

This amp is amazing!! I was looking for a small amp with a big sound. This amp sounds great at all levels. Even at bedroom volume you dont sacrifice tone, with some amps you dont get the same sound quality at low volume, not a problem with this amp. Even has an effects loop that I use for all my stomp boxes. You can get anywhere from a light distortion to a powerful british distortion, or strong american metal tone. I love this amp, its light weight and can take it anywhere, some amps you break your back taking them from place to place. Definitely try one of these. Blackstar is the future of tube amps. Great AMPS at a GREAT PRICE.

Great Amp for Home!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

If you only want a fender, marshall, or vox tone then go with one of those. If you want something with versatility and all of the options including effects loop, headphones, and speaker outputs, then this is an excellent amp. The ISF feature is just ok, but overall this amp has the potential for great tone.

Great Practice amp

By Bill Szabo

from Danbury, CT

I'm a hobbyist with a few years practice under my belt and have learned enough to know that if you want true crunchy overdriven sound, tube amps are the way to go. I use this in my house only and 5 watts is plenty loud enough. You can get a nice break up with volume as low as 9 o'clock and gain at 3. Some stuff that the description doesn't say but you may want to know: The amp is made in Korea and is built solid. The cab is made from particle board, with very nice tolex work. I've read that most people indicate the stock tubes are Sovtek's, I bought mine as a demo and it has Electro-Harmonics in it, which is my preference anyway. Noise floor is low but noticeable when you crank the gain. Cleans sound nice with single coils. This amp is not as forgiving as my old Vox ad-30vt. When you miss a chord or lazily slide your fingers up the neck, it lets you know how it. The Speaker is a chinese Celestion G10N40 (16ohm), which is ok but can get muddy at low volumes. This amp does sounds better plugged into an external cab with a better speaker (G12H). I've had mine for about 9 months now with no problems. I play blues and classic rock with an Epi Les Paul (with Gibson burstbuckers) and a Carvin strat copy (with Lace Sensor Gold p/u), both sound real nice through this amp with favor to the LP.
