ID: Series Amps
Blackstar's ID: Series represents a truly groundbreaking achievement, combining unique innovations, an intuitive, traditional control set and the versatility of programmability. In the five years since its launch, Blackstar has been helping lead the way in the innovation of guitar amplification. The ID: Series represents the culmination of more than seven years technical research and development. The unique controls allow you to custom design your own sound, store it and then have the confidence that the amp will perform in a live environment.

Blackstar's True Valve Power offers six distinctly different power valve responses - EL84, 6V6, EL34, KT66, 6L6, KT88. When engaged, it delivers the response, dynamics, sag and break-up characteristics of a valve amp and uniquely delivers the same acoustic power output as an equivalent valve power amp. This means that for the first time ever, in an affordable series of amplifiers, these products deliver live without compromise - True Valve Power means loud as valve.

The Voice control has six different channels - Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, OD 1, OD 2. When used together with Blackstar's patented ISF control you can get the exact tone you're thinking of. The effects section delivers studio quality modulation, delay and reverb effects simultaneously that you can store with your sound. Deep editing and storing of patches is simple using the supplied Blackstar GUI software. Patches can be shared, uploaded and downloaded via our online community. The USB connector also allows you to record your amp directly to your computer. An emulated output, MP3/line input and midi footswitching functionality complete the package.

By using the unique Voice control, patented ISF and patent-applied-for True Valve Power, these amplifiers allow unparalleled flexibility and ease of use, enabling you to in effect, design the sound in your head and deliver it live as loud as valve. Individuality is power.

  • Slays most other modeling/SS amps out there. Not quiet a tube-slayer...

As reviewed by Casey Lockwood on 7/12/2013

The ID60 is a great amp. It goes loud enough to gig, but still sounds great at bedroom volumes. That is one of the biggest reasons I looked into this amp. I don't love the maintenance that comes with tube amps, so I figured it was time to give modeling another go. The cleans on this amp sound very good. I dare say they sound better than alot of tube amps out there, and thats not a huge surprise. Solid state amps usually have very clear cleans, but the problem is they usually sound very sterile and inorganic. They lack the light, harmonic distortion tubes offer. This amp has the TVP tube emulation thing, and on clean settings it really rocks. Chords are very clear and lively sounding. Very musical. The crunch channel is also pretty great. If you dial it in right, you can get that kind of Mesa Lonestar smooth drive type sound. Clean with rough edges. Very nice. The high-gain channels are what killed it for me. They are by no means bad, they actually sound great, however I would not recommend this amp if you are really into high gain sounds. The distortion, although cleverly masked, still has that fizzy digital sound in the end, and the bottom end isnt very tight, especially at high volume. You can get by with it, sure, most people will know you are playing metal, but other guitarists wont find your tone inspiring at all. The software works well enough, its easy to store and download patches, and there are already tons of patches out there. The amp is also built like a mini fortress. Very sturdy. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to gig this. The effects...this was another downer for me. THEY ARE NOT BAD, but they are absolutely not inspiring. Its like this is a reverb, and it sounds like a reverb, this is an echo, and it sounds like an echo, but they are very sterile sounding and simple. Thats ok, if you're not huge into effects you will get by fine, but if you are you will probably end up dropping the money on pedals later anyway... So overall I would give this amp a solid 4 stars, sure. Awesome option if you need something with lots of versatility and good reliability. Also, did I mention it takes pedals just fine? If you're a tube snob/high gain dude, you might keep looking. Still, nothing else in the modeling game really touches what Blackstar has done here.

  • Must try

As reviewed by Jack Power on 2/25/2013

The local GC did not have one of these in, so I was at another music store and tried one. I was impressed. It is very hard to tell that there are no tubes inside. Plus the fact that you get everything from EL84s to KT88s make it one of the best "modelling" amps I have tried. If you can't immediately afford a tube amp, then this is a very reasonable substitute, and very loud. Everything from a blues junior to a cranked metal sound, all in one box.
