  THe cabinet looks good, the sound was a little harsh. I replaced 2 of the Celestion (Made in China) speakers with a pair of Jensen Special Design (Made in Italy) to complement the Celestions and make the sound more balanced. When I replaced the speakers , the nuts where extremely tight and difficult to remove and 1 of the studs came off (the particle board baffle could not take the stress and crumbled, I had to use epoxy to set it back in place. It appears like one of the speaker's hole was not centered properly between the 4 studs. Before closing the cabinet, I stuffed some fiberglass insulation (pink rock wool) around the speakers. The cabinet sounds much better now, great for blues, Jazz etc. The 2 speaker jacks are real bad, (the cable will unplug with very little tension) and that could cost you new tubes or perhaps a very expensive Transformer. I replaced them with USA made Switchcraft stereo jacks. I connected the Sleeve contact to the barrel contact, this ensures a better electrical and mechanical connection (your cable will not unplug accidentally). I do this mod. to all my electric guitars, no more noisy connections !!.

  I don't write many bad reviews on anything. But this was a mistake. I had the ht-110 and was pretty happy with it, but wanted to compare ht-408 since that is what Blackstar puts with the HT-1 series amp on their web site. I'm using this with the Blackstar HT-1R (a great little amp but held back by it's 8" speaker in a small box). I couldn't believe how 'dead' the 408 sounded. So I played around with my guitars (a strat, and a Jagmaster with humbucker sized p90's) and with the amp settings but really had trouble getting anything I liked. I thought maybe I was remembering the ht110 as sounding better than it really does. So I put the cabinets side by side and AB'd them. Nope the 4x8 sounds like drek. It's hard to describe. Choked, colored, and muffled come to mind. I tried some higher gain stuff and it sounded just as bad. I have never returned anything so fast as I'm returning this box. This was the most disappointing music item I have ever bought. 2 stars because technically there is nothing wrong with it.
