I purchased one of the Bill Lawrence SwampKasters (Tele style soft ash body w/binding and rosewood neck) guitars and loved the sound of the "T" pickups which are the same specs as the ones that were made for Roy Buchanan. I own many guitars and decided to mod a 2007 Fender American Tele (Wine transparent Ash body Rosewood neck). First change was Texas Special PUPs and a custom shop third middle Strat PUP. I swapped out the custom Shop Texas Special neck PUP for the T1. The guitar has a fender 4-way switch and a custom shop Fat-50 Strat middle pickup wired to a "middle on" mini-toggle to get the Strat sounds too. When the T1 is adjusted to the same height as the old TS neck PUP, the sound out of the T1 seems louder than the Texas Special, fuller and has more punch (10 gauge strings played through two tube amps - Egnater Tweaker head w/ 2 vintage 12s & old tweed Fender w/2 vintage 12s). Highs are crisper than the TS Pup but not thin. Jazz tones have more bottom end and are cleaner. The T1 is touch sensitive and overall sound to my ears is a 10. The stock AM standard PUPs in this guitar were (in my opinion) a 7. Note: The T1 is all black and does not have a chrome sheilding cover. If you are wiring this into a 4 way tele switch, use copper tape to shield the pick guard and body cavity, and ground it, or you will be get floating ground hum. With the shielding on my guitar it works fine. The T1 has no instructions enclosed, and two wires. You would think the red wire was positive and the black was ground, but not on this T1. On the first wiring it was out of phase and the black is the hot wire on this T1. I assume this was an error in manufacturing, but it still sounds amazing so I did not send it back.
