I don't usually write reviews, but here I am with my headphones nearly 3 years later still working like new. Yes they are a bit big, a little bulky, but they can perform. I use these headphones every single day. The construction of the phones is very solid. The frequency response is great. If you're used to pioneer, or sennheiser these will take a couple weeks for you to adjust to. As an oppose to an in your face blasting headphone these are a tiny bit quieter in comparison to other brands. I originally purchased these for the late night use for monitoring productions. I live in an apartment and I can't be too loud. (Headphones aren't great for mastering work, but these actually work in a pinch) I soon dropped my DJ headphones for these bad boys, talk about actually being able to monitor your bass and levels fairly accurately. I mix with these every weekend at the club, the noise cancellation is great if I do not wish to listen to drunk patrons trying to get my attention, and mixing with both muffs on is a awesome, I can get a good sense of the bass on both tracks, the loudness of each track, and I am not killing my ears listening to a monitor speaker.
These headphones sound great and cancel out almost all excess noise. Then 3 minutes later the right ear stops producing any sound whatsoever. LAME! Beyerdynamic, FIX YOUR FLAWS.
Not 20 to 20,000Hz!!!
I bought my first pair of these years ago when I didn't have the money to get studio monitors and they have served me well. My pair is finally on its last leg after years of use(and abuse) and I'm about to purchase a new set. The frequency response is really flat, and despite having a really nice krk monitoring system now, I still do my final touches to any mix with these. The Bass response is enough to get by if you can't afford a sub, but you will still need to experiment to find the right levels. I've tried a lot of other studio headphones, but these are the only ones that just feel right to me when I put them on.
Very pleased with these headphones. They have great accuracy and a nice warmth. On top of that, what really makes these headphones stick out above the competition is there comfort. They are extremely soft, isolated, and easy to wear for hours. Both physically and sonically. The only down-side is durability. This is my second pair, the first pair has a buzz in the low-end. They were used quite regularly for several years, however. I still went back, so don't let it deter you too much.
In comparing these headphones to similiarly priced sony and sennheiser I found that the Beyerdynamic's had a fuller range. The Sony and Sennheiser's were somewhat "Tinny" as they seemed to accomodate mostly the high and mid ranges . The only problem... these were used only for awhile before they shorted out... first the left side then completey... after about 4 months. I'm not sure if this was due to "rough or careless" handling by my engineer... but I'm sure glad I got the replacement warranty.
