Not what i thought it would be

By PR DJ

from NYC

Comments about Berklee Press Turntable Technique The Art of The DJ DVD:

this DVD just repeats what you can ask any dj or record store worker. It's not made by a real dj so I couldn't really accept it. I think I will just keep at practicing instead of using this DVD.

VERY basic introduction

By Thomas Huang

from Illinois

Comments about Berklee Press Turntable Technique The Art of The DJ DVD:

For the absolute beginner. Covers what each control on the turntable and mixer does. Intro to using the crossfader, some brief coverage of cueing, cutting, and then the fundamental scratches, including the flare, transformer, crab, and stab. Also has a basic tutorial on rhythm, including reading rhythm values in musical notation, which, while not harmful, is certainly not necessary for a DJ - if you can't FEEL rhythm and follow what you hear, you won't go far as a DJ. With a lot of the techniques he introduces, I discovered them on my own just messing around. But for more involved stuff, the step-by-step was helpful. The guy who narrates is definitely not a hip dude. His style/rhythm is wack, but his explanations are clear. I got this DVD for the scratching tips, which only last about 15 minutes on a two hour DVD. So I was disappointed. But for the total newbie, this might be worth checking out.
