Comments about Bellafina Overture Series Cello Outfit:
As an adult novice I was looking for an instrument that would grow with me. After much research on tone, materials, craftsmanship, and cost I came upon the Overture. At first glance this cello seemed perfect. After bringing it to my luthier to set the sound post (+24.50-$50) I learned not only was my bridge in need of adjustment(+$45), My fingerboard was warped as well(+$200). For a company that prides itself on craftsmanship I would expect better. Understand these instruments are crafted and not produced, two cellos from the same product line will have tonal differences no matter what. that being said it doesn't excuse poor craftsmanship. After these repairs were made My luthier and I were surprised at the rich lows and crisp highs this cello could produce. It is quite easy to play, and the bow it comes with is a little tip heave but very manageable despite it. more than adequate for an average to + student. I chose to repair rather than return this instrument for the sole fact of supporting the local luthier (their aren't many around!). I'm going to mark this recommended as there could have been many factors that led to a sub standard product (shipping handling, environmental changes, etc.). The fact remains buying an instrument without first seeing is a gamble regardless. This is not an expensive cello (comparatively), although the sound is very inspiring. Nor is it cheap ( to us blue collar workers) . It is a beautiful instrument ready to sing. Just remember to check your fingerboards, set your sound posts, and measure your bridges. GC did help me get mine, but if you have the chance, save the extra couple of bucks and go to the local string shop. the knowledge you'll gain is priceless.!
