The Behringer XENYX Q502USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the required tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, and "one-knob" mono channel compressor, the XENYX Q1002USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The smallest of the XENYX Q Series, the Q502USB is a 5-input, 2-bus mixer with a XENYX mic preamp and compressor, just the right size for smaller solo gigs. Thanks to onboard phantom power, Q502USB's XENYX mic preamp can handle dynamic, as well as a studio-grade condenser mic. Elegant in its simplicity, the British-style, 2-band EQ provides warm and musical tone correction. The Q502USB also sports RCA CD/Tape I/O, handy for playing break music or for recording your set.

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

Nice mixer with a horrible power connector

By James Knott

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Mixer:

FEATURES: This product function is ideal for my use -- and I'm only using a small fraction of its capabilities. It has plenty of gain and control with very low noise, and the USB installation was effortless and flawless. It therefore fits my needs excellently. QUALITY AND RELIABILITY: Unfortunately, Behringer uses a mini-Din connector for power (from the power adapter to the back of the mixer), which has no mechanical retention whatsoever (unlike many other connectors they could have chosen). Therefore a small giggle from the very stiff power cord causes loss of power & crackles. I cannot imagine how this product would be acceptable for gigging (not my use) but is OK in a completely static environment. Guitar Center did a FANTASTIC job of shipping me a 2nd unit, which did work a little better -- so I'm exceptionally pleased with this my first purchase from Guitar Center. However, based on this experience I would not recommend any Behringer mixer product (and probablyl not Mackie, who also uses a Din-type connector) if a different competitive offering would fit your needs.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Mixer:

Currently using in my home studio, great upgrade from my old Tascam. Huge improvement in latency reduction while moving some compression and EQ features to the mixer, freeing up CPU cycles and memory for actual processing the mix. Great plans for stage/live use in mind...

    Price is its strongest quality

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Mixer:

I don't really think you can score something brand new that can do what this does, for this price. (Anything more expensive, though, and you're better off buying a used Focusrite Scarlett.)

Simple to use "audio interface", with an analog mixer on top. Behringer's documentation is awful, so you're going to have to play around with it to figure it out. The Xenyx preamp is actually decent, although it lacks gain on this model. Every other part of the signal path, however, is noisy--so you'll never realize the full potential of the preamps. When mixing, the noise is noticeable, and especially so with good cans on your ears. Use the on-board compressor sparingly, be close to your mic and use proper technique.

The unit runs hot when in use. It also lacks a power switch, which is bizarre.

Looks like a lot of folks are confused by the naming convention--even though it's followed by every other vendor. The '5' means five input channels; the '2' means two output channels. The two output channels can be for stereo, or I guess if you use the pan controls, they can be 2x mono. This is not 5-in, 5-out.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q502USB Mixer:

Each input is crammed into pc audio, so if you attempt to record while listening to any other sounds happening in any program on your computer you will record that noise as well. Need a click track while you record a guitar riff? Now your guitar and click are married and their baby is disgusting and noisy and it's too late to put it down.

This is just a mixer that can mash stuff up and send it to your pc where it mashes up with the systems audio and then pours the combo out a 2 channel output and/or headphone jack. Ideal for podcasts, youtube tutorials, or making your friends listen to your game audio when you skype with them while playing Battlefield 1 so every footstep behind you sends them into a spiral of paranoia that drops their k/d ratio making you look like a better player than them. And you bought that Rode NT1-a so you'd better use it.

This defaults in Reason 9 to 512 samples at ~ 12 ms latency, which is impressive in the same way that it is impressive that Donald Trump won the presidency. In that you're already so disappointed by a system that could have been decent that your not surprised by the low quality of what it decides to spit out and the frequency with which it lets you down.

Anywho, at that price just bear in mind what it's designed for and there probably should have been more info on this "feature" somewhere in the specs absolutely anywhere.
