this mic has a great sound, after running it thru various amps(and karaoke machines)it still sounded teriffic. the clean vocals sounded impresivly clear for a mic of its price range, & the screaming vocals sounded brutal but toned. the only problem w/ it is that it broke the 1st time i dropped it, the floor was concrete but it broke even tho the fall wasnt hi. im considering a sennheiser or shure, but probably not this one again.

Why use a '58?

By Bretman

from Iowa City

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I bought one of these over a year ago to use for jam sessions instead of my Shure, and ended up buying 2 more! They're hotter than a '58, seem to have a tighter pickup pattern (less feedback issues), and sound very similar. They also come in a very nice hardshell plastic case with foam lining. I can now mic up my whole band for less than the price of 1 SM58, (which are great btw). So this is a no-brainer...just get 1, or 2 or 3!

Amazing quality. Better than any Shure mic.

By C.a

from Palo Alto California

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

Ok so I've been in a Metalcore/Death Metal band for a year now. And I've bought the shure mic's and they where good. But eventually came the day they broke. I spent tooo much money on just one of those, I didnt want to constantly buy a shure mic that I knew i'd eventually break. So came the day I went on guitar center and looked for a mic that had 5 star rating but not as expensive. I then found this. I was really not sure if I should buy this at first or if it was really good like Shure, but I said "hell why not". As I eagerly waited for it, Finally the day came that the package recieved to my house. Right when i opened it, I plugged it into my Amp and with the exact same settings i left my amp on when I had my shure, It came out louder, better, and had a very nice echo just like shure. I right away thought "why the hell wouold everyone buy a shure? This is WAYYYYY better than any other mic i've ever had" Now not only was it very good for screaming but when my guitarist did his normal singing on it, it sounded beautiful than ever. From the effects it makes live and practice, this thing is really good for recording, your recording would be the exact same like which would be a 5*. I recomend this to EVERYONE to buy instead of shure mics. This makes shure look like nothing.

Nice Starter

By Reading Falcon Records

from Reading, PA

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

If you don't really know if recording music is your thing but you have a good feeling about it, choose this mic. The low cost is perfect for you if you're not sure you want to shell out the big bucks. It is a surprisingly mid-high quality piece and I used it to record my first CD for my new company. Try it out, there's no harm in that.

Great Mic

By Don

from KC, KS

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I have a small DJ side business and was using cheap mics with terrible results. I was debating whether to get an expensive Sure or stick with the cheaper mics. This mic is awesome; it has so much clarity and little to no distortion and has been an asset to my DJ business. One other note; I bought this online and the first one that arrived did not work, I called the customer service number and was treated extremely well and a replacement was sent out immediately as I told the CS advocate that I had a gig in four days, Guitar Center gets all of my business now.

Beats Shure SM57 or 58

By Blonde B3

from Bakersfield, CA 93305

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I went to the local music store convinced I wanted a Shure mic. The owner found out I wanted mics for the church and suggested a straight across test with the XM8500 vs the Shure mics. I couldn't believe it. THe Behringer sounded way better, and way louder - and they made the PA at Church sound better than it ever had before. I ended up also picking up an XM8500 to use as my personal mic in our Christian Blues band, and again it easily beat out the SM57's the band has been using. I highly recommend the Behringer - besides...for the cost, if I ever lose it or it does happen to break down, I can buy two more and I will still have spent less than one Shure costs. Oh, and Guitar Center beat the local music store's price so I bought three more!

One Of The Best.

By Daniel Kritner

from Lake Tapps, WA

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I bought 4 of these mics about 2 years ago and have loved every minute of them. They are not better than SM58s, they're comparable to them. Every last inch of this microphone is a SM58, but it says behringer on it and it's alot cheaper. It is of preference choice whether to do these or shure's SM58s. I came across behringer's mics when I purchased a mixer and 2 speakers from behringer and wanted to match with what I had. I figured, give them a try, it was the best choice I ever made.

Dece

By Graham Williams

from Factoryville, Pa

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

as one other person said, the output is a little weak. when i use it into my behringer ultracoustic 45 watt amp, which can take guitar and vocals, i have to have the vocal channel volume doubled to the guitar channel volume. plus the clip is for european stands. so you need to buy a new clip generally. the case is reall nice tho and for the price, if your a loud singer and you just buy a 5/8 clip then you're good.

Signal seems to be pretty weak coming out of this so you need to juice it up pretty good. The sound quality is nice and clear though.

Great Mic for the Money

By Todd Berntson

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I purchased three of these and have been very impressed with their performance. Granted, they are not a Neumann, but for the money, they sound pretty good. Very good for backing vocals in a live situation, or for a solo artist who is looking for a good starter microphone.

Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I use this when leading worship, the only complaint is it is nearly too hot at times! Sound reproduction is very solid for the price point and I highly recommend it for budget minded folks. I have been using this in a smaller church for about 6 months now and could not be more pleased with the over-all performance. I will buy this again.

    Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

If you searched the entire music gear industry for a better bargain than the XM 8500, you would be hard pressed to find one. I've had this mic for about three years. I've used it live and in the studio, and it's never ceased to amaze me. I recently compared it to the $250.00 Telefunken M80. It's hard to tell the difference in sound quality. The M80 is a little more crisp with less proximity effect, but there is definitely NOT a $230 difference in overall sound quality. If you're on a very tight budget, and need a good quality dynamic vocal mic, look no further that the Behringer XM8500. You won't be disappointed.

      Comments about Behringer XM8500 Microphone:

I got this as a replacement microphone. I also ordered the two pack of 25 foot cables with it. It has been so long since I bought anything new that I forgot what it could feel like! When I hooked the microphone to the cable, it was a good, TIGHT fit. No wiggle room at all in the connection!, This microphone does have a good feel. You pick it up, or take it out of the stand, and you know you've got something of good quality. For lack of a better way to put it, the microphone has a "reserved" sound, almost like it;s holding back. Maybe I just need to "dial it in" a little more. What I hear sounds good!

There has to be a down side, and here it is: the microphone clip doesn't fit the mic. It's too small. I tried to put the mic on it, but stopped for fear of breaking the clip. One I have here works just fine for it, though, and the Behringer clip works on my other microphones. No gain, no loss. If I could just take off half a star I would, because of the mic stand clip. It's important to me to have a place to put the microphone when not actively being used.
