Overview

When it™s time to get down to the business of recording or mixing, the last thing you™ll want to do is crawl under your desk and run cables. The CONTROL1USB from Behringer gets you off your knees, putting Master Volume, Talkback, Source selection and Monitor control right at your fingertips. Now you can choose from up to three sets of active studio monitors and four different stereo input sources to create powerful, custom monitor mixes. Plus the built-in Talkback mic lets you communicate directly with the talent.

Sometimes bigger is better
Small knobs make for low precision. Conversely, the bigger the knob is, the higher the precision. Think of a control knob as a circle. On a small circle/knob the distance from one degree to the next is very small, making it difficult to dial-in perfection. On our really big knob, the distance between degrees of the circle is much larger, allowing you to make high-precision adjustments with ease. CONTROL1USB helps you set levels fast and accurately when it comes to your mastering project.

Built-in USB Connectivity
The built-in USB audio interface lets you connect directly to your computer and its digital library, creating the ultimate sound source control center”no additional hardware required.

More Monitor Options
In the golden age of recording, engineers had to make the mix sound great in just two places, the studio and the car. When you consider the acoustic environments and the equipment used in each, it™s not as easy as it sounds. Today™s computer-based recordings have to sound great in even more situations, such as MP3 players, podcasts and other bass-challenged systems”so experiencing your mix through as many speaker systems as possible is more essential than ever. CONTROL1USB lets you switch between up to three pairs of studio monitors, add a subwoofer, listen through vintage-style small monitors, or any other combination at the mere press of a button.

Your input is valued
The CONTROL1USB has enough connectivity to handle just about anything you'e likely to plug in. Four stereo inputs allow you to connect a CD player, MP3 player, computer/ DAW”and even a turntable, thanks to the built-in high-end RIAA preamp. Plus you can connect keyboards, drum machines or anything else you™d like to put through your monitors.
All-Access Backstage Pass
CONTROL1USB™s rear panel provides three separate Monitor Outputs with individual Level controls; a computer/ DAW Stereo Output; 2-Track A and B Stereo Outs with Level switches; a Studio Out with Level; Phones Out with Level switch; 4 Stereo Source Ins with Level control; a computer/DAW Mix Input with Level control, with one selectable as a Phono Input for your turntable. You get all this I/O capability plus USB connectivity.

Let™s Communicate
No need for a clunky desk stand and an external mic to talk to the guys in the isolation booth. CONTROL1USB™s high-quality, built-in microphone is just a button push away, so you can save your mics for the drum kit. The onboard headphone amplifier section lets you connect 2 headphones with individual level controls, which should make the next session one of your best.

Comments about Behringer XENYX CONTROL1USB Studio Control & Communication Center:

This was purchased for my home studio/practice space to replace a Mackie Big Knob that died. Since the Xenyx Control 1 USB was clearly designed to imitate the Big Knob, this review will compare the two. From my experience so far, the Xenyx is an excellent replacement. The output of the unit itself is just as transparent as the BK (not better or worse), and the unit itself operates in a nearly identical way. There are a few areas in which Behringer has improved the design.

The first pro deal with the input options on the back. Unlike the BK, the Xenyx provides a pad button for all of the inputs, including the RCA input. This seems small, but the lack of a pad option in the BK's RCA makes it virtually useless for anything with a powered signal, such as computer outputs or iPhone audio. Inputs fill up quick and thankfully with the Xenyx all of the input have the same level of functionality and control.

The second improvement is regarding the USB option. Sadly, using the USB input eats up one of the 4 input options, making input #3 on the back somewhat useless. However, if you are planning on using one of your inputs for your DAW, then you would use the space anyway and the USB input is much better for anyone who is not using high end D2A. The USB functions properly without any additional drives (on mac anyway) and also allows you to send any of the other inputs back to your DAW for recording. I wish there was a feature to send an input back through the USB without having to unmute it on the controller as well, but it's still a nice option to have.

The only negative I have found so far is small, but it can be highly annoying. The fans on the BK are audible, but are unobtrusive. On the Xenyx, the fans are noticeable. You can work with it, but when I first heard it I spent the better part of 5 minutes checking all of my connections convinced I had a power hum until I realized it was the fan.

Overall, it's a great unit and for the price, it can't be beat!!

Comments about Behringer XENYX CONTROL1USB Studio Control & Communication Center:

Im a professional recording engineer and singer sound writer... I was looking for a big knob product that wouldn't break the bank. I was about to decide on a mixer with USB capabilities but then I found this product and it was at a steal! For the price that I purchased, it is more than worth it. It has everything that I was looking for in a Big Knob, but a much cheaper price and more.. You are able to run audio in/ out through USB sound card, and gives me "somewhat" versatility of a mixer and big knob combined. The only CONS I have is that is has no XLR Jacks for microphone use, so you would have to use a XLR to 1/4 inch cable or a quarter inch cable from you mic pre to the Xenyx.

Note: I HAVE NOT TESTED THE SOUND QUALITY OF THE OUTPUTS THROUGH A MICROPHONE YET. Also NOTE: I know how "sturdy" this product really it because im very gentle with it as i am with all of my products.

Works well and sounds good with a keyboard plugged in. More Cons, it does not have output volume adjustments ( it does but the adjustment are inconveniently on the back), and it is not USB powered which would be a nice feature. But for home studio, even professional it is almost perfect FOR THE PRICE.... PROS: has a big knob for easy volume adjustments. 8 left/right speaker or phone inputs so one can input as many speakers as one could ever want, great TalkBack feature, 2 headphone inputs which can separately be adjusted, can turn off speakers as needed without unplugging them, can switch off outputs without unplugging.4 stereo outputs. THIS PRODUCT IS WORTH THE MONEY. Definitely affordable and worth it.

Comments about Behringer XENYX CONTROL1USB Studio Control & Communication Center:

I RECIEVED A DEFECTED PRODUCT. ONCE YOU POWER ON YOU HEAR A SOUND (SOMETHING LIKE CONSTANT HI-VOLUME WHITE NOISE) COMING OUT FROM INSIDE THE DEVICE ITSELF NEAR THE POWER ON SWITCH. BUT THE SOUND IS NOT COMING FROM SPEAKERS, ONLY FROM THE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS INSIDE THE DEVICE. THE SOUND IS EXACTLY LIKE A SOUND OF A DEFECTED CAPACITOR.

Comments about Behringer XENYX CONTROL1USB Studio Control & Communication Center:

Ordered this product on 9/13/2015; Back order kept getting pushed back, didn't receive it until 11/2. I had this device for a little over two weeks and it failed. Returned under warranty on 12/19/2015; again on back order. Was told that it should arrive 1/5/2016; called 1/7/2016 and was told back ordered to 2/18/2016. Cancelled my order going to buy something else.
I have work history as an Electronics Engineer and this appears to be a typical production issue, company knows there is a design flaw, but continues to take orders for the product. The failure appears to be a poorly designed switching power supply, sees spikes in the power line and the filter caps and other components spec'd too low to handle the power spikes so they fail. Bad call on Behringer to move forward and continue to sell the product when its not ready for release. They just moved another notch down the ladder of their already borderline reputation.
