Good Mixer

By Bill-Dallas

from Dallas, Tx.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1832FX Mixer:

Very good. No noise, does what it's stupposed to do. If it came with decent instructions, it would be even better. By using the instructions for Mackie's USB model, I figured out how to hook it up. Also, Behringer, on their website, has an 1832USB version "coming soon", with better instructions but still, not for a beginner. The free software that's in the package with the mixer, is barely useful and it's a sales ploy to sell the full version. However, it does record and playback and save as advertised, but at every turn "this version does not allow this feature, Upgrade now?". The software that came with the mixer would not work in "Vista", but their support site, within 3 days, offered me a later version (still a compact version), with a softare key to make it work. Still, I had to set the properties to "use as XP sp2" and "use as an administrator" before it would work. I ended up downloading Audacity and using it instead. With limited instructions for both products, it takes a novice several days to be able to use either of them. Example: When you set the software to record, it allows you to use the software's metronome. But, the only way to hear it through the mixer is to press the "CD/Tape" button. By pressing the button, it bypasses he "Main source" in the mixer and won't record. I have not found a work-around on this problem other than an external metronome or drum machine. On the Behringer site, they offer free, ASIO drivers. If you don't know what that is, you don't know you need it until you can't record. Also, it gives on another page, a source to download "lame.exe". If you don't know what that is, it will tell you while you're downloading it. You have to have this driver before you can use MP3 files, but the compact version won't allow exporting MP3 files so it's useless for that. All you are allowed to use are "WAV" files. For several years, I've used an 802 mixer and loved it, but didn't record with it. Without that experience, this would have been overwhelming. But, the product, in my opinion, is as good as they get for the price. I have used huge panels in differnt Churches, so I'm familiar with most styles and types of mixers. I would have bought Mackie's USB version as a first choice, but they are upgrading their production facilites and have no stock. That made me wonder if Mackie would have offered support when they can't offer product. But, I'm happy with my 1832 and hope to have years of satisfaction with it.

Works Great!

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1832FX Mixer:

I've had this mixer for around 3 months and just figured out how to use it. It works great now that I figured it out, works great and perfect for my small home studio. It has loads of effects that are not really useful when recording but they still are fun to play with even though I seen no use for them haha. Still great and gets 5/5

GREAT MIXER

By trainboy765

from Fairfax, VA

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1832FX Mixer:

I recently got this mixer for some home recording, and maybe a little live sound. Its blowing my mind. The FX are amazing to work(play?) with, and there are sub-mixes as well as main and monitor. My complaints: 1 - it takes too many steps to get one channel into the mix (turn it up, click main and solo, turn off lo-cut, etc) 2 - the faders for each channel also seem to control the level of FX for that channel on monitors. 3 - the FX take unneccesary steps to get into the mix.

PokerFly says you gotta have it!

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1832FX Mixer:

I've been shopping for a nice litle mixer to do some home recording with as well as use in a band. After looking and looking tirelessly at all sorts of models this unit just has them all beat hands down! All kinds of fantastic options, routings, the 4 band EQ on each channel strip as well as the 9 band Graphic EQ and the 99 onboard effects gives you the sounds you need that are just way to hard to beat for this price. Also, it has a voice cancel device that lets you practice your vocals with the band still playing in the background or even use it in a karoke situation and make yourself a one man band. Overall I'd have to say the only other board I really considered was the 2442FX but decided all I really needed was the 18 channels this provides, plus you've got 6 inserts and several output options. This is your mixer if you plan on some home recording and also using it live with a small group of 3 to 5 musicians. Feel free to contact me if you also own one and would like to share info.
